Learning any given subject can be difficult. Mastering a subject, however, is even more challenging, demanding, and tough. During my high school career, I had initially struggled to learn the material from the AP and Honors courses I was taking at the time. I had difficulty understanding what was being taught and truly absorbing the information. Somehow, I got through my four years of high school successfully by constant memorization and repetition.
When I entered my first year at Bryn Mawr College, a very selective women’s college, I honestly struggled with the material that I was presented with. I was in an academic setting where I could no longer memorize the information that I had studied and repeat the tested material onto exams and do well. After noticing this problem, I confronted and discussed the issue with my professors regarding the hardships, and I was fortunate enough to receive lots of help from my professors as well as my colleagues.
With their guidance, support, and trialing new study methods, I was able to learn and also master the classes I was taking. From my first year at Bryn Mawr College, I learned that the process of learning and mastering any subject truly takes dedication, perseverance, and determination. After my first undergraduate year, I was able to learn what study methods worked for me and what measures had to be taken in order to reach my own levels of success. With the knowledge that I have accumulated this past year, I would like to share this with students at an earlier stage. By establishing foundational study habits at an earlier time, students will have the opportunity to reach further success at an earlier time. I am aware that a student’s time is key when preparing for any class or exam, and I hope that I can help him/her utilize that time to reach further success.
