I am a sophomore at Harvard University pursuing a concentration in computer science. I'm also interested in potentially going on to law school after my undergraduate studies. I have a wide range of interests but I spend most of my free time either reading, painting, listening to music or dragging my friends to interesting locations to take photographs. My favorite book genre is psychological thrillers and I like listening and singing along to almost all types of music.Through school, I have been successful in many academic endeavors, largely due to the variety of techniques I've learned over the years to help understand information. I've found that often students struggle to understand material not because they are incapable, but because they aren't learning in ways that align with how they think. For example, I find that visual learners like myself like to see things in front of them, whereas auditory learners benefit much more from a verbal explanation. I also think that the most important part of learning is figuring things out by yourself, so my teaching style largely consists of providing support in addition to explanations and challenges that help my students learn to think creatively in order to solve problems.As a recent high school graduate, I understand the pressures associated with standardized test preparation and the importance of tests such as the ACT and SAT. The quadratic formula is useful, but if you cannot derive it, then you do not truly understand it. There are simply too many problems in mathematics to memorize solutions to all of them. Therefore, my goal as a tutor is not to throw new information at you, but rather to equip you with the logical and deductive skills to solve problems on your own, even if you have never seen the problem before.Outside the classroom, I am an amateur composer and musician. I can and do tutor a very broad range of subjects, but I'm happiest tutoring history, the GRE, and the SAT--the first because I've loved it since I could read, and the latter two because I think they are highly solvable and I want to make sure students get a chance to learn how to solve them. I'm a firm believer in tutoring in the style of a conversation. Obviously I'm imparting knowledge, but I don't want to lecture and I don't want to be boring, so I try to make it as natural as possible--which does mean I make my fair share of jokes. In my spare time, I'm a huge sports fan (of the Red Sox, Celtics, Broncos, and Canadiens, in that order), an avid PC gamer, a decent squash player, and a baritone.

I am rising Junior at Harvard College looking to help tutor and help young minds amidst what is a uniquely challenging time we're currently living through. I love working with kids of all ages, and tutor a wide variety of subjects such as math, english, and standardized tests.

I received my education at Fitchburg State University (BS), Salen Syaye University (M.ED), and Harvard University (M.ED)I taught Mathematics at the High Schoolm Level for 17 years. The subjects were Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry.My tutoring style is using the Socratic method of starting with what the student knows to learn what they don't. Very effective.My outside interests include sports and movies.
