I am a graduate of the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. I'm currently a student at Penn State Harrisburg working on a degree in accounting. I'm very passionate about tutoring. I love seeing the light bulb go off in a student's head, and when students all of a sudden find something so simple that had once perplexed them. I am also a sports fan, which is exactly what my grandma would call me. :)

I am committed to making tutoring fun and beneficial for all my students. I graduated magna cum laude from my high school as salutatorian in 2018, with distinction from Duke University with a B.S. in neuroscience in 2022 and am an incoming graduate student at Columbia University. Although each of my academic experiences posed different challenges, one thing made me successful at each stage- my zeal for learning. In my experience as a tutor and in my future endeavors, I want to impart this excitement for learning to each of my students. In tutoring sessions, I introduce topics in fun and engaging ways while thoroughly teaching key concepts and important skills. I then give students the opportunity to personally engage with the material by exploring and problem-solving. I adapt my approaches for each students' particular learning style, strengths, and weaknesses to make them excel in their desired subjects and excited about learning.
I am not providing answers, rather helping you explore your own. I am double majoring in English and Psychology going into my senior year, with hopes to become a speech pathologist after completes my undergraduate degrees.
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. I have been tutoring for over 6 years now, and I have found it to be an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience. I specialize in mathematics, particularly at the high school level, and I also have experience tutoring other subjects. I also have done SAT prep for the mathematics section of the New SAT and am very familiar with the recent changes to the exam. My belief is that everyone is capable of learning with enough time, explanation, and practice, and I hope to pass this on to all the students I work with. For this reason, I believe in teaching students how to think and problem solve, rather than just having them memorize patterns or facts.
I'm a pre-health student at the University of Pennsylvania, and have an extensive background in the sciences. I can also rock the SATs and MCAT, so I've got that going for me. I love learning with students and trying to make the tedious work of learning as fun as possible. I think and teach in examples and make abstract concepts easily understandable. I also love sports, adventures, travelling!
I am a rising fourth-year medical student at Perelman SOM at the University of Pennsylvania currently taking time off from school. I am a Yale 2014 graduate (B.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry). I spent my gap year doing wet lab research in a biochemistry lab at the main NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, My parents are both university math professors with a natural gift for teaching that I believe they passed on to me. I hope to apply for residency in Internal Medicine or Psychiatry and down the line in my career to teach medical students while practicing in and academic or private-practice setting. I specialize in MCAT testing but am hoping to tutor for the SAT as well, and possibly AP exams. In my free time I enjoy rock climbing, running, working out, playing video games, and dabbling in random hobbies (most recently crochet!).
I am a first year medical student at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. I have been a private tutor in the past in subjects such as math, biology, chemistry, and the SATs and every single one of my more than twenty students have shown significant improvement. Most importantly, I have a passion for teaching, and your needs and preferences as the learner will always be paramount. I hope to help every one of my students reach every bit of their potential, and along the way, to utterly shatter any self-induced limitations that have been placed upon what they can accomplish.
I am dedicated to helping both struggling and thriving students excel in the subject in question. While I will work closely with my tutees, I will never just tell them how to answer a problem. Making sure the student is able to solve the problem on his own and understand why this method of solution works is how the subjects can be mastered.
I'm available to tutor biology, chemistry, physics, math from Algebra up through AP Calculus, SAT test prep, and French. I've been tutoring students in science and math for 7 years. I also spent 8 months working and studying in France, and have tutored high school and adult students in French. When I'm not working or studying, I love playing volleyball (indoors or on the beach!) and spending time outside, canoeing or hiking with my dog. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
I am currently a rising Junior at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and minoring in Science, Technology, and Society. From early on, the intellectual development of others has been very important to me. In high school, I developed my school's first summer tutoring program to ensure that students retained information and were prepared for the upcoming year. I am most passionate about tutoring Political Science, History, and Math, with significant experience in helping students in each of these subject areas. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and playing the bass.
I am well schooled in academic writing and reading comprehension; furthermore, I have honed my ability to write pointed, direct essays for both applications and classes. After studying French in high school, I went on to spend over six months in France working on archaeological excavations. As a previous educator for high school students, I am versed in different learning styles and can't wait to work with more. It sounds trite, but it's true--I love teaching, and consider it both a privilege and a real pleasure. I look forward to helping more students achieve their academic goals!
I am a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a Masters in International Educational Development. I graduated from Stetson University with my BA in 2017, and since then have worked in inner city schools. The last two years, I have taught Algebra and Geometry at a charter high school, while managing a math tutorial program within the school. I find great joy is setting students up for success and helping them achieve the utmost in school. I do not only focus on student academic performance, but also on their social-emotional well-being, so they may attain a positive mindset of their day-to-day learning. I have 10 years experience working with elementary kids, including assisting with homeschooling. However, I am more passionate about helping students understand higher levels of mathematics. I am a believer in quality education, that's why I make sure to create an engaging learning environment for my students.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Harrisburg has 11 school districts serving nearly 50,000 students across 65 schools, and Varsity Tutors connects students from all of them with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Harrisburg City School District, Central Dauphin, Mechanicsburg, or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands their specific curriculum and academic needs.
Harrisburg students frequently seek help with math, reading comprehension, and test preparation—particularly for the SAT and ACT, as well as Pennsylvania state assessments. We also work with students on algebra, geometry, chemistry, and writing skills. Because Harrisburg's schools follow Pennsylvania's academic standards, tutors are familiar with the specific benchmarks and assessments your student will encounter.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who understand Pennsylvania's learning standards and how they're taught across Harrisburg's districts. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps students fill gaps in foundational skills and build confidence with challenging concepts—which directly supports performance on Pennsylvania assessments like the PSSA and Keystone Exams. This targeted approach is especially valuable given Harrisburg's average student-teacher ratio of 15.8:1, where classroom teachers often have limited time for individual support.
The first session is a chance for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific academic goals. The tutor will assess your student's current level, understand any challenges they're facing, and develop a personalized plan. This foundation helps ensure that ongoing sessions are focused and effective from day one.
Many students show noticeable improvement within 3-4 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the subject, the student's starting point, and tutoring frequency. Regular sessions combined with practice between meetings—using techniques like spaced repetition and retrieval practice—help students build lasting understanding rather than short-term fixes. We recommend discussing realistic goals with your tutor during the first session.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and tutoring experience. Many have backgrounds in education, hold relevant degrees, or have demonstrated expertise in their subject areas. All tutors are vetted to ensure they can deliver quality personalized instruction aligned with what Harrisburg students need.
