I have several decades of classroom and leadership experience including teaching and tutoring foreign languages, K-5 reading intervention, and seven years as Instructional Facilitator. Having first hand knowledge of the challenges some students have in learning a foreign language, I am inspired to connect teaching to the students' learning styles, to eliminate the apprehension about language learning. My passion is teaching and learning foreign languages and cultures. Because of my passion for language learning, I studied abroad for several years to not only learn the languages but also the culture. I have inspired several students to become foreign language teachers and many to become tutors while pursuing their college degree. My focus now is to give first and second year students a strong foundation in foreign languages (French and Spanish) to ensure success in upper level language courses.

I'm originally from Chile and Spanish was my first language. I moved to the US when I was four years old, but never lost sight of my Spanish. Fortunately, I spoke Spanish every day of my life at home and that continued throughout college when I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain for a semester. Today, I work as a bilingual writer for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I enjoy my sharing my native language with others and encouraging a deeper understanding of Latin American culture. I tutored students throughout college and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have a BBA and an MSBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Memphis, and I am a former Instructor at Southwest TN Community College. I started working at Southwest as a Math Tutor, and I've tutored elementary and high school students. I have also assisted several colleagues with standardized placement and proficiency tests and with their undergraduate and graduate courses.

I graduated in May of 2022 with my BA in English with a focus in Creative Writing (poetry) from Washington University in St. Louis. I love language and the written word and I want to instill that love and appreciation in others. I've worked with elementary school students to improve their reading skills as an AmeriCorps Vista Intern with Literacy Mid-South, and while at WashU I led numerous writing workshops for groups ranging from elementary school students to my college peers. I wrote for our campus newspaper, Student Life, which is one of the oldest college papers in the country. Therein, my passions lie in English, Creative Writing, and Writing more generally. I am currently an MFA student at the University of Memphis, studying Creative Writing (poetry) and I'm really excited to continue honing my craft and working collaboratively with others.

I am a graduate of both Trinity University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Latin, and Brandeis University, where I received my Master of Arts in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. Between schools and since, I have tried to find personal time to continuing my studies and keeping my skills fresh by translating new works. I have worked with Shelby County Schools as a classroom teacher of Etymology but have found that I thrive much better when working one-on-one with students. I tutor Latin at all levels, with the hope that my students, regardless of their starting skill level, can learn to see the beauty and nuance of the language they are studying. I believe in education as a tool for personal enrichment, and especially the study of foreign languages as a way to understand different ways on thinking and talking about a subject as a means of deeper understanding of that subject. In my spare time, I enjoying reading, learning more about languages (even those I will likely never learn to speak), and cooking.

I am a Venezuelan born journalist and videographer. I have always tried to teach on the side because I enjoy it. Back in my country I was an English teacher, so I understand a lot about grammars and how the English language works. This is very helpful to give you tips that will help you to produce sentences and learn in a practical way. Grammars can be abstract, but when you apply them to real situations you understand and learn a lot!
