I have a PhD from Rutgers University in Biomedical Engineering/ Neuroscience. Before that, I earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering/ Electrical Instrumentation from New Jersey Institute of Technology (Albert Dorman Honors College).Through my years of academic studies, I have gained an extensive background in mathematics, biological, and physical sciences. In addition to conducting scientific research, I have developed an strong passion for teaching.I have had the pleasure of teaching/tutoring high school and college students from diverse backgrounds for more than seven years, covering standardized test such as SAT, ACT, and GRE as well as high school and college math and science courses.I believe that effective teaching is not about transfer of knowledge from instructor to student but rather providing an interactive learning environment that motivates students to be active and fully engaged in their education.I understand the importance of not only learning the material well but translating that education into demonstrable performance on time sensitive exams.I will help you achieve your academic goals through a comprehensive study plan involving an individualized curriculum and a strategic study plan to improve not only your learning, but also your test-taking skills.

I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in History and minors in Political Science and Spanish. I have lived in Washington, DC, since November 2012 and have worked on Capitol Hill for political campaigns, an area which I plan to continue pursuing until I go to graduate school. While in college, I spent a six weeks in the summer in Madrid and took the opportunity to improve my Spanish through Washington University classes and strong cultural immersion. I spent my second semester in junior year studying abroad in Ireland. I have tutored a group class on the SAT and have learned best practices at both teaching and managing to maintain the attention of a group of high school students (much tougher than it sounds, shockingly). I have been reading more in the last few years than I did while I was in school and love when I find a book where I don't hit a wall halfway through. I am currently reading "What It Takes", by Richard Ben Cramer, widely considered to be the greatest book ever written about political campaigns, while other recently completed books include "Ball Four," by Jim Bouton, and a biography on Joe DiMaggio. Other interests include politics, New York sports (Yankees/Giants/Knicks please don't talk to me about the Knicks)

Our educations do not stop once we exit the classroom doors...When I am not working in an educational setting, I enjoy spending the majority of my time outdoors. Biking, running, and hiking are ways I can stay active and are great ways to decompress! One of the events I look forward to the most are the bike trips I am honored to take with Pittsburgh Youth Leadership, a program that provides an opportunity for youth in the city of Pittsburgh to see our nation while on two wheels.

I first discovered my love for teaching during my childhood. I have always enjoyed watching a student's confidence and academic ability grow throughout the year. This is my second year teaching in Chicago Public Schools and one of my favorite parts about teaching is getting to know my students and their interests inside and outside of school.
