As a first-generation immigrant from the Dominican Republic, I lead my life according to the values of independence, adaptability, and unconstrained passion. These values have aided me well along my academic journey. Growing up in a predominantly Spanish-speaking household in the US forced me to become an independent learner at a young age. A National AP Scholar who has taken over 10 AP classes, I have substantial experience with advanced curriculums. I recently graduated from the University of Chicago with general honors in the college and departmental honors in Biological Sciences. The rigors of an elite liberal arts education helped me realize the importance of developing an intuition in educational pursuits. I became a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago with this exact focus in mind for my students and learned to tutor them on complex topics ranging from evolution to sickle cell disease in a way that resonates best with their diversity of learning styles.I have come to believe in a tutoring style that prioritizes establishing a sound conceptual foundation that a student can later extend into more advanced content and novel applications. I also believe that challenging students to think beyond the content presented is crucial for the development of critical thinking skills and curiosity. Beyond all else, however, I believe that one learns best when he or she finds meaning in the material that extends beyond textbooks or assessments. I hope I can be the bridge between the objective content presented and subjective awe experienced by a student. I am a firm believer in the idea that there is no better feeling than that "aha!" moment.Having endured a challenging pre-medical curriculum at the University of Chicago and scored in the 95th+ percentile on the MCAT, I have a thorough background in STEM that ranges from calculus to neuroscience. As someone who aspires to become a physician, I tend to analyze the world around me based on scientific principles and have developed the intuition needed for nuanced and creative approaches to novel problems. I believe I can assist students with developing a similar intuition and empower them to approach scientific problems from new perspectives that complement their own.Despite my scientific background, I am enamored by both creative and argumentative writing. I have a firm grasp of the English language and understand how to read between the lines of text. The liberal arts education I received at the University of Chicago has strengthened my writing skills and has introduced me to meditated critical thinking skills I hope to share with others.I strongly desire to not only help others learn but to help them acquire the skills and attitudes needed to become lifelong learners with a curious, skeptical eye. Please feel free to contact me so we can begin this journey!

I am a current undergraduate at the University of Michigan. I am a Biochemistry major and Philosophy minor, with years of experience tutoring students. Through high school, I tutored kids in the ACT, math, science, literature, and debate. My favorite subject to tutor is Chemistry, as I have taken Chemistry Honors, AP Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry(1 and 2). I believe that tutoring is a two way street, with the student learning about the material, but the teacher learning about how the student interacts with the material. Due to this, I am a very hands-on tutor who is always available for a text/call outside of class. Outside of academia, I am a singer and have been for 13 years now - a choir singer for 7 years and now in a premier acapella group at the University of Michigan.

I am a recent Cornell University graduate (Dec '23) majoring in Biological Sciences with a focus on Genetics, Genomics, and Development. My passion lies in healthcare, as I am currently preparing to attend medical school this upcoming fall. However, I have always had an interest in teaching. I started as a general chemistry TA, supporting students during problem solving sessions. Then, I helped teach our genetics lecture course, coordinating individual and group tutoring sessions that guided students in content application. This position transformed into a leadership role, organizing our teaching team while spearheading an initiative to train fellow teaching assistants in pedagogical techniques that I learned in a course I took on the art of teaching. Lastly, in an ethics of medicine course of non-STEM majors, I prepared and facilitated discussion sections on current topics in personalized medicine. These experiences, combined with my time as a teaching assistant in correctional facilities, helped me grow as a varsity tutor now going into my 4th year on this platform. Given this breadth of experience teaching diverse and unique students, I am eager and excited to support young scientists in any subject related to this field.

I am currently a sophomore at Columbia University in the City of New York. I am pursuing a degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in Sustainability and Energy, and I am minoring in East Asian Studies (specifically, Japanese). After graduation, I plan on working in the renewable energy sector in either the United States or Japan. From September 2014 through July 2015, I worked as a tutoring specialist for a company. I tutored students ranging in age from 13 to 50, in various subjects such as calculus and chemistry. While I enjoy tutoring students in all of the subjects I specialize in, I love tutoring students in physics (specifically, mechanics and waves). Physics is my favorite subject to tutor because while it is more difficult to demonstrate phenomena from other subjects such as organic chemistry, physics is a very prevalent science, so even by rolling my pencil off of a table, I can easily demonstrate physics concepts to my students. For me, hearing "Oh, that makes so much more sense now!" from the students whom I tutor makes my job very rewarding because working with them to find the approach that best caters to their needs feels awesome. As a tutor, I always ensure that my students have a good qualitative understanding of the subjects they are struggling in before helping them with quantitative problems. For example, rather than simply telling my calculus students the formula for integration by parts, I first show them how it is derived so they acquire a good grasp of how it operates.Outside of school, I really enjoy being involved with music. I love singing, playing the drums, piano, and guitar. My favorite genre of music is rock, so playing rock songs with a band has always been one of my favorite things to do.

I carry a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and I'm applying to dental school. I'm a tutor at my university's learning center and have experience as a chemistry lab teaching assistant. My favorite aspect of tutoring is being able to relieve a student of their worries and assure them that they're completely capable of comprehending the material if they simply dedicate enough time to practice. I myself, was an average student in high school, however once I got to university I really applied myself and worked hard to get to where I'm at now. I started out taking basic classes and constantly going to the tutoring center as well as my professors' office hours. Building a solid base in these lower level courses helped me understand more difficult material in higher level classes to come. Once I started to take higher level science classes I was towards the top of the class in subjects like chemistry and physics (classes have 100-200 + students). Building a solid understanding of the basics is the key to success. I tutor general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, algebra and test prep for the DAT. I especially enjoy tutoring chemistry which I view as being the central science in understanding the fundamentals of how the universe works at the smallest level. I can confidently help students with the DAT having scored well myself (I can provide documentation of my score). When I tutor a student I first like to hear from them what they understand and then build from there. I find this is efficient because we don't spend time on something he/she already understands and can dedicate time to learning new information. I then like to walk them through an example or two and supervise them while they attempt some problems on their own. I truly look forward to working with you and just remember that you're capable of doing anything you put your mind to!

Organic chemistry can be a challenging subject, so it is important to seek the right guidance. With 7 semesters of experience as a teaching assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, I have had a lot of experience mentoring students on the subject. My responsibilities as a TA included teaching recitation and supervising organic chemistry labs, tutoring undergraduates 4 hours a week, creating and grading quizzes and exams, and grading exams from lecture courses. Having someone with this vantage point guide you through the subject would be a great asset. I have a master's degree and am a published organic chemist. I am now applying to doctoral programs to start in fall 2016 and am tutoring students in the Pittsburgh area until then. I look forward to helping you ace organic chemistry.

Hi there! My name is Andrew, and I want to help you ace the MCAT! As a recent Emory graduate and current 2021-2022 MD applicant, I know all too well how discouraging it can feel to invest your time and energy into content review and practice, only for that hard work to not materialize as a score increase. My goal as a tutor is to prevent this by demystifying common MCAT misconceptions and pointing you towards the test prep resources that can help you make the most of your time spent studying. I will also try to pinpoint any gaps in your understanding of the content, so you can build up the foundation of knowledge you will need to get the most value from practice questions. Finally, I can provide the proven tips and strategies I used to climb from a 507 on my diagnostic full length to a 524 on the real deal - a 100th percentile score. For example, instead of gimmicky highlighting or writing outlines, I can show you how to improve your reading comprehension pace so CARS no longer seems like a coin toss. Instead of getting caught on throwaway details on B/B, I will show you how to focus on the salient information the AAMC wants you to take away from the passage. As I spend my upcoming year going through the rest of the medical school application process, it is my sincere hope that I can help you achieve your goals on a timeline that works for you, and I look forward to potentially meeting and working with you in the future.
