I am a Duke alum currently working toward a Master of Science in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. As a pre-med student who majored in African and African American Studies, I have experience navigating a variety of disciplines. I also have experience tutoring in a number of subject areas, and have worked with diverse sets of students who have varied in age, grade level, and coursework. I began tutoring almost seven years ago working with disadvantaged students on mathematics. I started tutoring fellow students when I was in high school. When I got to Duke, I had the opportunity to tutor at a local middle school. I have tutored a variety of subjects, but my favorite subject to tutor is math because of how much I enjoy it. I think that a tutor's enjoyment for a subject can directly impact how the student feels about it. Tutoring was a central fixture of my extracurricular life during high school and college prior to my entering the business world as an entrepreneur. I missed the experience of instructing and mentoring in the years since I last tutored, and out of a desire to recapture the sense of fulfillment that comes with being a teacher, I began privately SAT tutoring in the local area a few months ago and was reminded of how well suited my personality and my intellectual curiosity are to teaching. I always loved taking standardized tests; I thought of the problems as fun puzzles. And I love sharing that outlook and enthusiasm with students who are trying to improve their SAT performance. I am a rising senior at Duke University majoring in Psychology and minoring in English. I first started tutoring when I was 10; I'd explain new words in books to my little sister and help her with cursive, work on times tables with my older brother, and teach the little bit of English I knew to my immigrant parents. I tutored students in my middle school through a counseling program, helped deaf and disabled students develop social and creative skills, and freelance tutored throughout high school, and have tutored Spanish-speaking immigrant families (ages 6-12) in Durham, NC since October 2018. The other program that deeply impacted me was the Student-Athlete Civic Engagement (ACE) Program. During that program, 5 student-athletes from Duke and 5 from Stanford went to one of 4 places to ethically volunteer/run sports camps. I was selected from a pool of applicants to go to rural Cusco, Peru, where we built a greenhouse, renovated a tree nursery, and paved a trail to a viewpoint to promote environmental conservation and rural tourism in Cusco. Under the guidance of the rural Peruvian community, I was able to both utilize the Spanish I knew and learn conversational Spanish and a little bit of Quechua, the local language. After returning from Peru, I applied and was accepted to be an Ambassador for the ACE program at Duke.My strong suits for teaching include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, and Math through Calculus.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Duke University with a concentration in animal behavior. I enjoy Biology because it sheds light on who we are and where we are from, plus it is a great excuse to be outside. After every class, my students are excited to come back for more!My teaching philosophy is to not just help students rotely memorize material, but make them truly excited to learn and increase their essential critical understanding of the subject.I am currently a student at Duke University, working towards a degree in molecular and cellular biology (which is my favorite subject to tutor!). However, I also tutor in English, math, ACT/SAT prep, almost any subject that you may need!In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends, listening to music, baking, and drawing.

As a graduate of Duke University with a B.S. in Biology, I knew I wanted to pursue academia. I continued my studies with a M.S. in Marine Biology at Nova Southeastern University, where I solidified my passion for research and teaching others. Now I'm hoping to help my students get as excited about learning as I always have been! My most recent teaching experience has been with a local marine biology summer camp, where I do my best to get the kids stoked about biology, ecology, environmental science, and conservation. While I feel most passionate about marine biology, I am also qualified to tutor a variety of different subjects. I have taken the SAT 11 different times, and feel very confident teaching standardized test subjects! For me, tutoring is about breaking down difficult subjects into bite-sized pieces for my students to understand. My motto is "baby steps," and I love finding new and personalized ways to make learning fun for my students. Outside of academia I can be found exercising, singing, playing the ukulele, lounging on the beach, or finding new and exciting ways to annoy my cat Mozart.

I am a graduate of Emory University, where I was an Emory Faculty Scholar and academics tutor who double-majored in Economics and Psychology, and am also a current MBA graduate student at Duke University (on academic scholarship). I have several years experience tutoring across a variety of subjects and also 6+ years of experience as a recruiter (and 2+ years as Director of Recruitment). I also provide freelance career coaching and resume services when I am not tutoring or immersing myself in learning.
