All students can learn, however, not all students learn the same way. The key to learning and the most important part of any teachers job is helping students understand how they learn best. That is what I do well.

My individualized tutoring methods also raised my step-son's Physics grade from a C to an A in one semester. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Washington, I worked for the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program in Fukushima, Japan. Here, I taught English to elementary and junior high students. After this, I spent time working in the Richland and Pasco School Districts as a Japanese coach and substitute teacher. I also spent time with the Columbia Basin College ESL Program, where I was a volunteer ESL tutor. In addition to these classroom roles, I spent time acting as an interpreter for Spanish, Japanese and English lectures on various topics and interpreted for local guides on tours aboard 800-passenger cruise ship run by international non-profit organization on a global peace voyage. I majored in Spanish and Education for my B.A. from Fisk University and furthered my studies to include Humanities for my M.A. from Old Dominion University. I love teaching Spanish, which is what I currently do in four schools and tutor in my off time. I love to read books, crochet, and play with my toy poodles. I am a rising sophomore majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Data Science at Rice University in Houston, TX. Naturally, my favorite subjects to teach are math and computer science, particularly programming languages like Python, Java, and Scratch. I have found great enrichment in these seemingly daunting areas, and I hope to make them more easily accessible for others. As a founding member of the Ready for College Leadership club (RCL), I mentored high school freshmen and sophomores to help them succeed in high school and prepare for college admissions, while also providing academic aid. The best part of working with students is watching them grow not just as a learner, but also as a thinker. I always encourage students to be curious and let their true interests be incorporated into lessons. In my spare time, I love learning languages; I am a heritage Spanish speaker and a self-taught Portuguese speaker. I also enjoy playing guitar and practicing new songs to sing.
