I have loved science ever since I was a kid and watched The Magic School Bus and the Bill Nye show. I majored in Neuroscience and Behavior in college, so I learned a lot about Biology and Psychology, and I plan on getting a Master's in Bioengineering. I spent two years serving with the Peace Corps in Peru, where I learned to speak Spanish, build stoves out of adobe, and a lot about life in rural communities. In my spare time I enjoy playing harp and guitar, learning new languages, and being outdoors.

My teaching career spans 13 years, eight years in graduate school at Duke University and The University of Kansas, then five years as a professor at Grinnell College, The University of Iowa, and Dickinson College. I have lived in Spain for two years during my undergraduate studies and in Argentina for one year with a Fulbright Fellowship. Thus I possess a keen awareness of the differences between Peninsular and Latin American Spanish, and the major differences in the regional dialects.

I am a former teacher who loves learning and seeing students learn things they never thought they could learn. I have lived in KC for almost 4 years and am really falling in love with the city.I taught high school Spanish 1 for two years and taught theater for three years. My teaching style is structured, but fun. I am firm believer in practicing as much as possible and getting friends and family in on your learning. I use power points, props, videos, games, and whatever else I can find to make sure that every student is learning according to their learning style.

Tutoring can be hard for any struggling student . But that's not the way it has to be. I like to start my sessions in a stress free environment. I'd like for the student to see me as a mentor and friend, that way trust between us will lead to a favorable learning environment.Once this has been done, we will start by identifying strengths and deficiencies. This will enable us to create a strategy meant for success, coupled with a little humor here and there, some flashcards and relating the subject matter to everyday life, there's no way on earth that we won't achieve and even surpass the set goal. This is the reason I like to explain everything starting from the basic concepts up to the most complicated, because once the student has mastered the basics and all the information is understood and not just memorized, the rest will be as easy as pie.A little info about me, I've earned an MD degree and I'm currently working in cancer research at UTHSCSA, which fortunately for the students and myself, means my grasp on cellular biology, molecular biology, physiology, pathophysiology, anatomy and all basic medical sciences is right on point and as fresh as the nicest looking lettuce at a farmer's market.I'm also certified by the ECFMG, which means that I've passed all my basic and clinical science exams, this will allow me to apply for a medical residency in the US.Having studied and mastered the required subjects for my certification also means I have a firm grasp on biology and core science concepts. All my educational formation allows me to understand each student's situation, because I've honestly been there, sitting at the library staring into the book and then into oblivion because the information looks so complicated. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, with perseverance from both of us and a desire to advance, we can make it and excel.I'm also a native espaol speaker, which fortunately for me, means I can also help anyone with basic language skills and even the most complicated spanish classes, essay writing, literature and just plain learning to speak spanish.I look forward to working with anyone that's looking to learn and get ahead.

I am a senior at Brandeis University. I am on the pre-health track majoring in Health: Science, Society, and Policy and Biology and minoring in Hispanic Studies. I am also President of a Brandeis Volunteers Around the World, which aims to bring volunteering opportunities to students at Brandeis, as well as providing services to underserved countries internationally. In addition, I am also a part of General Tutoring in which I voluntarily tutor a high school sophomore every week in mathematics. Although I am comfortable in tutoring a variety of subjects, I am most interested in Mathematics and Science. From my experience in teaching, I have found that the most successful method for a student's success is additional practice. I believe that every student has the opportunity for success given the appropriate resources. My future plans include attending medical school and my hobbies include biking and reading.

I am a fourth-year medical student at New York University School of Medicine. As a soon-to-be physician, I have vast experience talking to patients about complicated medical conditions, treatments, medications and various diseases. It is my job to make sure that they understand what I am talking about in a way that allows them to explain it to others. I believe this is one of my best qualities to work as a tutor; the ability to mold concepts to in a way that others are able to comprehend them with ease. I have had many years of teaching experience, which has varied in many ways throughout my life. When I was a teenager, I worked as a swimming instructor for children ages 3 to 12. This allowed me to foster a specific teaching technique where I patiently worked with my students to dissipate their fears (like the fear of water), and build the trust needed for them to allow me to explain very complicated concepts in a way that they'll understand it. I used this technique later in college while I tutored fellow classmates and other college students various subjects, including: math, chemistry, physics, Spanish and biology. After college, I worked as a middle school and high school tutor, teaching math and sciences to children in East Orange, New Jersey. In addition to my teaching experience, I graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a GPA of 3.8 and a bachelors in both Chemistry and Spanish. As a chemistry major, I feel confident teaching chemistry and organic chemistry. As a medical student, I also feel confident teaching MCAT preparation, physiology and anatomy. I am a native Spanish speaker and studied Latin American and Spanish-Language literature extensively, so I am very comfortable teaching Spanish for any level of proficiency. Lastly, as a native Spanish speaker I also feel comfortable teaching English-as-a-second-Language (ESL) as well as TOEFL preparation.

In addition, past employers have noted my positive attitude and work ethic.
