I believe that community care is one of the foundations for growth. Having been supported by my family and friends throughout my life, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am without their support. Through them, I was taught to always give when I have the means and I believe that is seen through my work as an educator.I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of Creative Writing and Film Studies. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools to study Art Therapy and become a professional Youth Art Therapist as I believe that early intervention and an increased focus on mental health and wellness, can lead to healthier, more communicative, emotionally mature individuals.As an educator, I believe that knowledge of a subject isn't solely what's important. Rather than simply fostering "knowing" in my students, I intend to focus on giving students the tools and skills needed to strengthen their understanding of a subject. By working with a growth mindset, I can meet students where they are and work with them to help raise their understanding. I believe that highlighting student strengths, understanding their learning style, and making the material more relatable helps to foster a better understanding of the subject matter at hand.

I then got my Masters in Teaching, and have spent 8 years teaching middle school. I also was a Fulbright Scholar.While in college, I tutored in a local elementary school, working with kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade students throughout my time there. I worked with these students in small groups and individual settings and tutored them in a variety of subjects, including math, reading comprehension and fluency, writing, handwriting, social studies, and science. I also coached competitive high school debate (following my own participation in the event throughout high school), and taught students research, writing, argumentation, and public speaking skills, as well as about international and domestic politics.I am comfortable tutoring in a variety of subjects, particularly at the elementary and middle school level. I am most excited about US history, English, writing, and public speaking. I am deeply passionate about educational equity, and firmly believe that every child has a right to an excellent education. Outside of school I am a resident assistant, a varsity soccer player, and member of the biology, chemistry, and philosophy clubs. Additionally I volunteer through a local nonprofit at various nursing homes, as well as coach 8-12 year olds at my previous soccer club, Cleveland United.
