My areas of expertise include English Literature, (BA, Carleton College, 1983), Acting and Shakespearean performance (National Shakespeare Conservatory, 1991), and Educational Theater (New York University, 1997). Educational Theater encompasses a wide variety of practices, including, but not limited to performance skills. Theater and drama modalities are used around the world to enhance learning across the curriculum. We can find ways to use those learning tools, if you are interested! I offer particularly strong skills in language and literacy. I provide my students reading and writing support in traditional and non-traditional ways, often using speaking and listening (two under-appreciated aspects of literacy) to explore language, meaning, story, and structure. I have studied Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, a top art school in the US. I have also studied Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, an Ivy League School. I have a breadth of experience working with youth of all ages, in particular students aged 12-20. I was teacher's assistant for 5 intro level drawing courses at RISD, and frequently lead sessions. I have also tutored 6th and 8th grade math for City Year.

I encourage all students to adopt an open-minded approach, and provide support to gifted students, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and Multilanguage Learners with equity. My pursuit and purpose is to guide with compassion and enthusiasm. I encourage students to take ownership of their learning. By promoting student agency, students empower themselves to achieve in academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. As an ADHD adult, I enjoy working with ADHD students and adults experiencing anxiety + depression. What is effortful for our neurodivergent brains is also our superpower! In my career, I have lived and worked in NYC as an editorial photographer, actor, and dancer. I lived in Berlin and pursued performance art + music while honing my communications skills in digital art + copywriting in Marketing. In Los Angeles, I succeeded as a commercial and theatrical actor. My skill set is suited for collaboration with all students to support and develop their passion for learning, exploration, and critical thinking. I live in southeastern Washington State and teach in northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington State public school districts. For the past six years, I have worked at a day camp for kids age 4-14, specifically helping campers who need extra assistance to thrive in the camp environment.
