I graduated Haverford College in 2012 with a B.A. in Astrophysics and a minor in Classical Archaeology. I am currently the Master Electrician for the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA. While I am most adept at Physics, Astronomy and Math, I have always had a passion for English Grammar, proofreading and editing. That same love of English helps me when trying to communicate mathematical and scientific ideas to those for whom the sciences are a struggle. Conversely, I feel that my science background helps me teach English to people who excel more in the sciences. In my free time I like to cook, read, play bridge and travel.

I first discovered tutoring in college. At first it was just to make some extra money but then I realized there are many benefits to being a tutor. In addition to getting paid to teach, I am constantly learning myself. This happens as I am preparing for tutoring sessions as well as when I am explaining concepts to those who I am teaching.Another aspect of tutoring that I find fulfilling is when is when my students have an "aha! moment." The sudden solidification of ones understanding of a concept is a phenomenon that I enjoy experience myself as well as seeing in others. In addition to tutoring I love playing snowboarding, playing basketball, and hiking.

Eastern University can be accredited for showing me the wonders in teaching. After receiving my Master of Education degree I started teaching in an urban city's public school system. I currently teach fifth grade where the students excite me with their wit and enthusiasm. I look forward to working with students because I learn just as much them as they do from me. That's my philosophy of education: students and educators coexist as learning partners. The learning is reciprocated on both ends. Students are given the necessary tools to make inquiries and then apply different learning methods to give solutions to their own inquiries.

I am determined to have my students, no matter their age or ability, achieve their personal best. I thoroughly enjoy the sport, game, and pursuit of learning and teaching, and I am certain that by collaborating with me, learning will be interesting, fun, unforgettable, and valuable. I love teaching Reading, Spanish, and French. My favorite language is Spanish because of its musicality, spirit, and consciousness. My philosophy of teaching is that I must necessarily explore what you like about the subject you are learning, and then amplify that to include all aspects of that subject. I adore watching students fall in love with their latest acquisition of language, and celebrate that to the highest level of their competence. It opens a new window to one's abilities, and also establishes a history of small successes that, in succession, lead to victory.

Hi! I'm Sophie, and I'm a medical student with a passion for teaching. I want to work with patients, but my other goal is to go into academic medicine. I can't picture my present or future without education in it. I began tutoring for my little sister when both of us were in high school, helping her with math, English, science, and Spanish. In college, I started branching out to tutor friends. In 2019 I began volunteer tutoring for my college's chemistry department, and soon after, I took on a job at a local tutoring center teaching biology and chemistry (and occasionally physics and math) to high school students. Since taking the MCAT and scoring 99th percentile, I started tutoring for that as well. Biology and chemistry are my main teaching areas: chemistry because I've had the most tutoring experience in it, and biology because I have practical experience through lab research and patient care. I can also teach math or physics (I used to be an engineering student so I know those subjects well). I pride myself on bringing a real passion for the subjects I teach. I also strive to abolish simple; disjointed memorization and help my students see their subject matter through a logical, problem-solving oriented lens. I look forward to learning with you!

I recently graduated from Houghton College, where I majored in physics and mathematics. While I was in college, I worked as a teacher's assistant for various math and physics classes. By working as a teacher's assistant I gained experience in the classroom, in smaller help sessions, through one-on-one tutoring, and also by grading homework assignments. Before college, I worked as a piano teacher throughout high school, as well as tutoring a few students in math. Now I offer tutoring in physics (up to college level) and in middle school, high school and some college level math classes. Introductory physics courses are one of my favorite courses to help students with because there is a steep learning curve, and it is exciting to help a student progress in a subject which they may not have much experience in.My tutoring style greatly depends on the student I am working with. Usually this does not include very much lecturing on my part--instead I like to work through problems with the student. Depending on their confidence level in the subject, I will usually work out an example for them, asking questions along the way, and then prompt them to work one out themselves. Sometimes for physics problems, what can be most helpful for students is to talk through the situation presented in the problem and describe, verbally, concepts such as energy transfer and forces, for example, to help them understand what we are concerned with in the particular problem.Outside of academia, I am interested in living a sustainable, minimal life. I enjoy trying to find ways to reduce wasted resources and energy consumption. I am also a musician--I have played the piano for many years and am currently working on recording some of my compositions.
