When I got to graduate school, I had my first experience with teachers who weren't very passionate about teaching and it was the first time I struggled with the material. It helped me see how important quality teaching had been to my academic success, and it also helped me see what makes a good teacher, good. This sparked my interest in not just how to teach, but how do students learn? I've been tutoring and teaching ever since and I'm always looking for new ways to reach students and to make the material spark interest.I earned my Bachelor's in Chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University and went on to a PhD in Organic Chemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. I tutor in most STEM courses including geometry, algebra and pre-calc and chemistry, physics and biology. I tailor my tutoring sessions to the student and focus on a problem-solving approach.

I am currently entering my fourth year of medical school at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wheaton College in Illinois, where I graduated in 2017 with high honors. Throughout my undergraduate years, I tutored extensively in several academic fields with a focus on the sciences and preparation for the MCAT.I personally have a passion for teaching and find great joy in helping students recognize and achieve their true potential academically. I studied linguistics and English in France and ended up with a Master's in Theatre (which is the other side of me).When I tutor, I always remember the English assistants I used to have at school, I learned so much more with them because they were fun, knew their country very well and could tell us about what was going on there (we listened to music, watched videos, read books and even performed in mini plays we had to write!). I try to emulate this. I am convinced that getting to know the culture of a country is tremendously helpful when it comes to learning a language. I fell in love with grammar in elementary school and completed all the exercises from the Bled (a French grammar book) instead of playing outside. I hold a Masters in Education (Reading Specialist), from Howard University (Washington, DC) and my earlier academic pursuit, in Speech Pathology and Elementary Education, was completed as a dual Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, Michigan). My 25 plus years experience in the profession of Education has been a labor of compassion, commitment, and an extraordinary experience, that led me to receive STEM Certification from Columbia University and Adams University, from NASA Endeavors Fellow Program. Since retirement from the public school systems of Washington, DC and Baltimore County Public Schools, I have tutored and mentored students from other countries, Alternative Education Programs, and Public Schools; and during the last two years, tutored online. (Which I found very exciting!) I have taught grades K-6; and 7-8.I have managed STEM programs and have received various recognition from national organizations and the Department of Education (retired Secretary of Education Arne Duncan).I am most passionate about Reading and Literacy. I have experience helping struggling students who have gaps in their reading comprehension and writing areas. I come from a family of educators, musicians, and community activists, who strengthen my knowledge for learning and having fun while learning. I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. I enjoy reading and watching movies. I have traveled to China, Haiti, Nigeria, Mexico, and various states. When I was young, READING about far away places encouraged me to visit different areas of the world.
