I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Psychology and Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies. During my undergraduate studies, I spent a year abroad in Peru, which cemented my love and understanding of the Spanish language as well as Latin American history and culture. I really love to travel and explore new places, which prompted my recent move to Denver. I am also passionate about learning and I enjoy inspiring that passion in others. I appreciate the experience of working with students in one-on-one tutoring sessions so I can gain a better understanding of each student's learning style and to build a great relationship so I can make each tutoring session more fun as well as productive. In my free time, I enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors, hiking, biking, rock climbing, or just laying in the grass and reading a good book.

Education is an opportunity to build connections between the knowledge you already possess and the new ideas you have yet to discover. With this in mind, my goal is to help you make those connections and keep the information more firmly planted in your mind as relevant and important.

I have just received my BS degree in Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton. While I was there, I worked as a tutor for chemistry, biology, and physics. During my experience as a tutor, I learned how to address my student's needs to quickly adjust my explanation so that my student would understand. To improve myself, I attended work shops to learn more about tutoring and logged my progress in my journal. I still have things to learn, but that is what makes tutoring so enjoyable. Each session is different from one another and has its own unique challenges so that I can continue to learn and be a good tutor. Aside from my on-campus tutoring, I also tutored high school students in chemistry and physics. There are differences between high school and college students, but one thing I do find in common is that when we solve a problem together, we both get this feeling of accomplishment.Aside from tutoring, I enjoy hiking, playing tennis, and biking. Those are my latest hobbies at the moment. Other things I have done are football, rugby, wrestling, and basketball. On my lazier days, I will go play video games or rent a movie and enjoy a good laugh. Eating is always another enjoyable choice as well.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from University of South Carolina as well as a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from University on Missouri-St. Louis. I am certified to teach by the state of Missouri. Since graduating from UMSL in 2011, I have worked for St. Louis County Special School District as an ABA therapist and teacher's aide. My experience with student teaching and subsequent career as an ABA and aide have allowed me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students of various ages, from elementary through post-high school. My philosophy of education is that I believe all people are capable of learning. I practice this philosophy by meeting students at their level of educational need and focusing on their individual learning styles and interests, while utilizing a multiple modality approach. The main focuses of my tutoring are English and composition, which, besides being necessary life skills in our society, are subjects I am passionate about. It's a joy to watch students learn to express their thoughts and ideas using organizational strategies. I'm a strong proponent of lifelong learning, and I try to share my enthusiasm with my students, as I believe enthusiasm for learning is the key to educational success, not only in school but beyond into the real world. In my free time I enjoy reading literature and nonfiction, writing, exercising, and composing and playing music.

Elementary School Reading Tutor • +15 Subjects

I attend The University of Colorado Denver as a second-year student and am working toward a BA in psychology. I tutor English and writing, which are my favorite subjects because they allow one to dive into their creativity and use their imagination to the best of their ability. I have experience tutoring students ranging from grades K-12 in English and writing. In high school, I was a writing center tutor. I focused heavily on: assisting students in revisions (punctuation/grammar), understanding writing assignments, helping students understand how to take their papers to the next level, and so on. While in high school, I also tutored elementary and middle school students with their reading and writing through an organization called LINK (a high school freshman mentor program that also provided the chance to tutor students of younger ages. Though, to tutor younger ages, it required a selection). Majoring in psychology has allowed me to dive deeper into how the brain works, and this aids me in the way I tutor. Every individual has a unique learning style, of which the broadest categories are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Discovering what style works best for a student while also tapping into the background knowledge a student already has altered the way I tutor (students may also enjoy multiple learning styles). With this combination, I build on the student's knowledge in a manner they will understand. Through tutoring, I realize that the best feeling is when something has finally clicked for a student after they have been struggling with something for quite a while!
