I received a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a Pre-Med focus at Syracuse University. Upon graduating, I joined Teach For America and I have been teaching for four years. In my first two years I attained a Masters in Science in Special Education from Fordham University.I teach in District 79, an amorphous district, that caters to students who have struggled in a traditional academic setting. During this time I have come to believe that every student is unique and requires differentiated learning styles and/or resources that will help him or her succeed.I am fortunate enough that I teach science specifically. I teach Biology (Living Environment), Earth Science, Health, and the science component of GED (HSE). I love science and I believe that the right tutor will be able to explain the depth and usefulness of science in a fun and engaging way.

I'm an experienced tutor who believes in creatively helping each student learn. I have tutored and taught for over seven years. I graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2012 with degrees in International Political Economy and Spanish Literature. Most recently, I was a Spanish high school teacher in New Orleans for the past two years through Teach for America. During that time, I worked with students on everything from ACT test prep to learning how to read. I'm in Saint Louis as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs and am hoping to tutor in my spare time. I love working with students until they completely understand a concept. I'm open to tutoring in Spanish, English, basic math and, of course, the nitty gritty of ACT test prep. In my spare time, I love to cook new recipes, run around Forest Park, discover new music and explore the city. I'm looking forward to working with you or your student!

I've always loved teaching. It started in 11th grade when I taught math and science to younger students. Math is fascinating; once you grasp the basics, you can work miracles. I've been a home tutor and freelance guide, assisting students with exams and assignments. I completed a Master's in Electrical Engineering, where I realized engineering is the practical application of math and science. I believe in inspiring and empowering students to explore these fields, shaping a better future.

I have 8 years in special education and 4 years as a certified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and 44 master's hours toward an MEd in special education. Although tutoring per se is new for me, I have extensive experience tailoring lessons to individual children. I can help with all subjects in grades 1-6 and some specialty areas such as astronomy, history, social studies, and art. I love to teach and seeing the spark of understanding within any subject. My philosophy of teaching is that I truly believe that ALL children can learn and I never stop trying to find what works for your child. I love to ice skate, make pearl jewelry, zombies, reading, watch movies, and go long walks. I am an expressive, dynamic teacher that likes to make learning fun!

AP German Language and Culture Tutor • +28 Subjects
After graduating from Cornell University with my Bachelors in Physics and German Studies, I am currently enrolled in the Materials Science and Engineering PhD program at the University of Michigan. I enjoy tutoring students because I was once on the other side of the table! While at Cornell, a physics graduate student provided me with supportive, concept-based, and empathetic tutoring that greatly increased my self-confidence and mastery of the course material. In my tutoring sessions, I use many techniques which I learned from him, and my #1 goal is to empathize with the student and make them feel valued despite their academic struggles. My tutoring sessions focus on helping the student understand the "why" -- "why is equation X appropriate and not equation Y?". From my own experience, this approach allows students to fully understand the course material and apply it in a variety of settings, from academia to careers and internships.I have completed over 500 hours of tutoring at 3 different companies, and have proofread cover letters and resumes for adults seeking new job opportunities. I continue to keep my German skills sharp by regularly watching German television and news, and have achieved CEFR Level C2 Proficiency (highest possible) in all areas of the German language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

I am a current undergrad at Georgia Tech majoring in Computer Science. I've been tutoring for a few years and love working one-on-one or in small groups. I believe every person has a unique learning style, and as a tutor, I should be flexible and adaptable in the way I teach. Seeing the progress students make is rewarding, and in turn, I hope I can make learning a more positive and enjoyable experience.

I recently graduated from Tulane University down in New Orleans, LA with a degree in finance and energy. I have extensive tutoring experience over the years since I started back in high school helping my fellow classmates in a variety of subjects and SAT test prep. Subjects I have tutoring in the past include algebra, geometry, trig., pre-calc, chemistry, and physics. I continued to tutor while I was in college, spending the majority of my time helping underprivileged students at our local elementary schools. These kids often struggled in school and have had to repeat the same grade multiple times. Our program focused on reading comprehension and writing, and I am proud to say my student made it on the school honor roll for the first time. I view tutoring as a form of giving back to my community and as a mutual learning experience for me and my student. My teaching style stresses focusing on separating concepts that my student already knows from those that they are struggling with. This style has worked in the past for me as it clearly outlines our objectives and makes best use of our limited time. Outside of school, I enjoyed going out with friends for dinner or shows. I also enjoy tennis (love the game), fishing, games of all kinds, and generally enjoying the company of the people I am with.

I am excited when I teach because I believe every student has ample talent whether traditional schools have unlocked it or not.I recently graduated from MIT with a bachelors of science in chemistry and biology and will be going to Columbia to get a Ph.D. in neuroscience this coming fall. I decided to try for my Ph.D. because I care deeply about decreasing the suffering so much of the population experiences due to mental health problems. I pursued this passion outside of academia as well by training as a crisis counselor while in undergrad for Crisis Text Line. The skills I learned as a crisis counselor helped me in a variety of social situations and I believe will also improve my tutoring abilities because tutoring goes well beyond just knowing the material well.Throughout my life, I have found opportunities to be a tutor. As a high schooler, I tutored a variety of my peers. All the students I tutored improved their grades during our time working together. In one stand out case, I worked with a girl in both science and math for two years. When we started she had mainly Cs and below. We worked together to bring her grades up to a B average! The most exciting part of working with her (aside from getting to play with her adorable hedgehog) is that after we stopped working together she choose to push herself and take Advanced Placement classes and went on to get into a four-year college! She is currently thriving in college :)I also tutored MIT undergraduates in chemistry and developed a college level chemistry curriculum for underprivileged high school students in Boston within the program BoSTEM. I enjoyed being able to help students through such a rigorous curriculum at MIT and using experiments to teach chemistry. I only wish I had more time to dedicate to tutoring while I was in undergrad.I hope to find the teaching style that works best for you. When I developed a college level chemistry curriculum for BoSTEM we used a flipped classroom set up where kids watched educational videos at home and we applied their knowledge in the classroom with a variety of fun experiments. My favorite experiment was calculating the number of calories in a bag of Cheetos simply by burning one Cheetos under a can of water and testing the heat change of the water.Every student has a different type of learning they work best with. I personally do the best when I make myself study guides of the material I've learned in lecture. I hope to work with you to find your own style. Finding your preference will benefit you for years to come.
