I am an English teacher based out of Miami, Florida. I went to Montclair State University, in New Jersey, to join their teaching program. Educating students is one of the greatest passions in my life because I love passing on my knowledge to others and helping them grow. I believe in growth mindset and a students ability to achieve their goals despite whatever obstacles they may face. Most importantly, I am very flexible in my teaching by molding my lessons around whichever learning style works best for each student. I love english language arts, writing, and analyzing literature! I am a graduate of Wheaton College in Massachusetts. I received my Bachelor of Arts in African, African-American, and Diaspora Studies and took several courses in Hispanic Studies. I am currently working on my Master of Social Work Degree. As an undergraduate student, I studied abroad for an academic year in Puebla, Mexico where I was able to complete a project on the presence of people of African descent in Mexico. Since high school, I have been working with children and young people often as a mentor and in academic support. One of my first tutoring experiences was as a tutor for a reading program that provides extra support to first grade students who are struggling to read at grade level. In college, I taught eight grade US History and some elective courses to middle school students in a summer enrichment program in Norfolk, Virginia. Additionally, I have supported students in the college application process working with them on parts of their PSAT and in college essay writing. In past jobs, I have assisted students studying for Accupulacer exams to enter into Community Colleges. One of my favorite quotes is by Frederick Douglass and it sums up my beliefs on education: "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." I believe that education has the power to liberate people and from my personal experiences, I have experienced it as a transformational process. In my spare time, I like writing poetry and attending poetry shows, participating in Improvisational Theater, and reading.

I am a recent graduate with a BA in History, my primary emphasis focuses on late 19th and early 20th century US history. I love studying primary sources and analyzing multiple interpretations of historical events.My goal for tutoring history is to foster a better understanding of the context and background of historical events, and how important figures and time periods are connected. Through this, I want to help students better understand history, and, through that, current events.

Early on I realized I am not a visual learner and unfortunately a lot of the early education system is built around that skillset. So, from the time I started school I was always looking for new ways to approach problems. As a result I am drawn to situations where I can solve problems and help people understand things better. These subjects make up the foundation of all living things, and even though they are complicated, how could you not wonder where life comes from or how it works? I love fostering curiosity and exploration through education by helping students understand these challenging subjects and showing them how they can use what they are learning in the real world. It can be so difficult and frustrating for a student to try to explain why there is a disconnect in the information that other people read and understand so easily but just will not come easily for the student. I am personally dyslexic and have ADHD and remember the struggles I had growing up and getting through school. It took me years to develop coping mechanisms and tricks that let me read and write efficiently because I was diagnosed later on. As a result, I have an intimate understanding of what tips and tricks helped me stay on track. I am happy to help with reading and writing, organization, how to set goals and stay on task, and focus/listening skills.Building a strong and sound educational foundation is imperative to setting students up for success. Doing it while having fun and learning important problem solving skills helps impart confidence in students. Hi, my name is Julia Davis; I am currently attending graduate school at Bellarmine University to receive my Master's in Teaching degree.I am an alumnus of the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville; I received a full academic scholarship in 2008 and graduated in 2012. After graduating, I began working in the arts community of Louisville as an art educator. I am also a painter; I work by commission and have shown personal work in Louisville, Cincinnati, and Chicago. I am currently illustrating a Children's book.In 2016, I was the operations manager at a local arts education non-profit organization, the Squallis Puppeteers. We would instruct children and adults to create a puppet and tell their own story. We would also perform puppet shows throughout school gymnasiums and various locations. After getting more exposure in school classrooms, I decided to be more involved in education.In 2018, I began to substitute teaching in the Jefferson County Public School system. I started to pick up long term positions and was integrated into training to better my instructional skills.When the pandemic struck, I lost my position for some time and decided to wait no longer. I applied for the graduate program and gained more confidence in developing relationships, trust, and teaching skills.As an educator, I will help guide my students to self-discovery by cultivating their imagination and providing them with engaging experiences.

I am a nurse educator with 20 years of experience. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston. Currently, I am working on a PhD in Nursing Science at Texas Woman's University where my research focus is on why nurses have stayed at the bedside. I am a graduate student at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism coming back home to New Jersey after spending the past nine years in Florida. While I was there, I was a Mentor Writing Consultant at the University of Central Florida's University Writing Center. I also have professional experience as a journalist both in my undergraduate degree as well as a professional career prior to graduate school.As a graduate student, I am in the Social Journalism M.A. program and will be dedicating my year to analyzing diversity in the video game community (which I am actively part of).I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.During my undergraduate, I was awarded the Florida Association of Broadcasters Scholarship Award. I was also the first Online Digital Producer/Social Media Marketer for the Central Florida Future, the college newspaper for the University of Central Florida. I love traveling, and was lucky enough to spend an entire year of my college career studying abroad in London. My passion for the arts extends to working with children and young adults. I have been a choreographer for middle school musicals for several years.
