Art Tutor • +21 Subjects

As an art educator, I care deeply about the value of education in the arts. Art is a tool for all different learners. Art allows individuals to create means of work through our own ideas or thoughts. Art can also be interpreted in many ways to become a shared meaning between our peers. We can utilize our shared meanings of art to understand one another. As an art educator it is not only important for my students to endeavor their minds to create meaningful work but also understand the power of creativity in the arts and why the arts are necessary in all school curriculum. Today's student's education sometimes can be over constricted, which often focuses on knowing only one right answer, therefore students need guidance in reclaiming their capacities for conceptual, imaginative play in the art room. I strive to foster pride, and enthusiasm in learning

AP United States History Tutor • +38 Subjects

I love to help students realize their potential. I believe all children and teenagers can perform well in school if given proper support and encouragement from caring adults. Learning should be enjoyable, and not be made to seem like a chore. I incorporate fun and games into my tutoring activities whenever possible.I received excellent grades on all papers written at Duke University (master's degree) and Emory & Henry College (B.A.), and I can help high school and college students learn to write better papers. I am proficient at US History and can help an AP US History student towards a 4 or 5 on his or her exam. My concentration for both of my post-high school degrees was religion, and I would love to tutor students who are taking religion courses. My favorite hobby is reading, and I believe it is important to instill an enjoyment of reading in students as early as possible. I can help young people who need extra support to become better readers.I am reliable, easy to get along with, and I love kids! I work with children and teenagers in my primary job, and I am comfortable around kids of all ages. I have two daughters of my own so I know what it is like for parents to want the best for their children. I do what it takes to tutor students to better grades, confidence in a subject, and a sense of self-reliance.

Mathematics is a fun subject to help others learn because although the concepts may be difficult, it is definitely a subject that can be mastered if practiced enough, and I love seeing how excited my students get when they fully understand a concept! Of course, I am excited to help you understand the subject at hand, and I will continue working with you until you reach success.

Who Am I?I am an education advocate who enjoys learning new skills and challenging my intellectual ability. I have more than 25 years of business experience and 11 years of teaching experience. I love problem-solving, so a career in financial management was my fate. My most recent challenge was adjusting my teaching style to middle school students and relating studies to real-life experiences.Teaching Experience - College:Taught post-secondary education classes in Business Communication, Principles of Management, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, and Introduction to Entrepreneurship from 2012 to 2019. I was an Adjunct Professor at the local community college.Teaching Experience Middle School:Since Oct. of 2019, I am teaching middle school business education classes for the state of North Carolina. My main focus is on introducing business concepts to primary school students in grades 6th-8th. I teach Business Activities, Business Procedures and Leadership, and Keyboarding and Word Processing fundamentals.I have a Bachelor's Degree in Management, and a Master's Degree in Business Administration in addition to post-secondary credits toward a Doctor of Education Degree. My teaching philosophy is "you are never too old to learn something new."I want to help other students appreciate the world as a classroom, where ideas and creativity is supported, assessed, and analyzed. With the right guidance, any student can become an experienced achiever, developing the foundation of their future. Bright-minded students need to be shaped and encouraged to envision their potential. We learn from our failures and become better with every opportunity that challenges us. This is how we can reach our full potential!Additional Business Experience: Co-Owner of two small businesses that were both profit-driven. A small vending machine business (Fla) for eight years completely "self-funded;" a small franchise (Fla) associated with real estate since 2015 (rehabs, rentals, and flip-N-retail). Familiar with Quickbooks for small businesses and the filing of federal/state taxes.I am a quick learner who is able to adapt to new challenges.

I first gained experience tutoring math and business classes at the Campus Learning Center while I was in college 10 years ago. During this time, I not only had math and business majors as clients but I also had art, theatre, psychology, history and a variety of other majors. Needless to say, I had to learn how to explain things in a variety of ways depending on what kind of learner I was working with. I was in my junior year and working on my finance degree when I was asked if I wanted to run a course with about 25-30 students. This course was aligned with a Political Science course and designed to create small study groups led by a student who received a grade of an A in hopes of a higher success rate in the class of 150+ students. I was expected to attend the lecture class with my students and then create a lesson plan for them to highlight the key points and concepts. It was during this time that I realized I really love the learning process. The beginning is always most challenging (for me) -- figuring out how the student learns best, what prior knowledge is the student missing, and establishing a relationship with the student. Once those things are accomplished the process becomes more fluid but there are always surprises along the way which keeps it fun and interesting. After realizing that learning was my passion, I decided to work a couple years in business but then apply for graduate school to get a Master's in Education. It was the best decision I ever made. I have been teaching for 6 years and tutoring on and off for 10. I also began a coaching career a few years ago.. Being able to utilize my love of math, sports, the learning process, and helping kids all in one career has been nothing but rewarding.
