I am really passionate about all the subjects that I teach and my goal with tutoring is to inspire my students to feel the same passion. I love tutoring because I love being able to make a positive difference in my students lives.

I am a self-proclaimed math and science nerd with 5+ years tutoring/teaching experience. I have a Bachelor of Science in physics from Brigham Young University-Idaho and a Master of Science in materials science from the University of Washington. In addition to my education I have also taught college physics for over a year. With such a diverse background I am able to tutor in physics, all levels of mathematics (including calculus and beyond), and even materials science if you're interested in it. My personal favorite subjects are physics, calculus, and pre-calculus. My approach to tutoring is to help students re-learn what they may have missed or forgotten and to assist them in discovering patterns and methods necessary to solve problems on their own. In other words, my job is to work myself out of a job; and I am very good at it! Some of my personal hobbies include hiking, fishing, photography, running, genealogy, and blogging about science (check it out at www.matphy.com). As I continue my own education I am currently investigating graduate programs to complete my Ph.D. in physics with an emphasis in optical properties of semiconducting materials.
I am currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, complemented by minors in Pre-Professional Health Sciences and Spanish for the Health Professions. With five years of tutoring experience, I specialize in high school chemistry, math, and writing, however I am willing to tutor in a wide variety of subjects. My approach to tutoring is centered on fostering confidence and understanding in my students. I believe in creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their struggles, as I guide them through concepts using tailored questions and varied explanations. This method allows me to identify their needs and adapt my teaching accordingly. My background in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, where I excelled in subjects such as HL Chemistry and HL Language and Literature, fuels my passion for the subject, and I enjoy helping students navigate challenging topics.
For over two years, I've supported students and professional writers alike as a tutor and consultant, and for five years, I've worked on novels as a developmental editor. I graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public and Professional Writing, and I specialize in ACT English, college English, technical writing, and creative writing. I tailor my strategies to each student's needs, using a collaborative, student-centered style based on research, including research I conducted and presented at the 2024 National Conference for Peer Tutoring in Writing. My passion for writing and communication motivates me to guide students in finding their voices and achieving their academic goals. I aim to help students grow beyond my tutoring and gain experience that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
As a graduate of both in-person and online educational programs and universities, I am acutely aware of the challenges that can accompany these different learning formats. It is my passion to help students be successful in any learning environment they find themselves in. It is an honor to be a part of your journey to success! Any educational journey is not for the faint of heart! My own journey to becoming a Registered Nurse (BSN) was wraught ups and downs, mountaintops and valleys! I found success in utilizing tutors during my time in school, facilitating study groups, and staying organized in my study notes and in life in general. I am a huge proponent of learning to understand so that learned knowledge can be applied to a variety of scenarios/questions. I stay current in my nursing practice by working at a local hospital in a nearby city. I enjoy teaching and mentoring new nurses and student nurses on site. And I get to feed my love of helping those learn here at Varsity Tutors! During the school year I also teach as an adjunct faculty at Boise State University in their School of Nursing which I really enjoy! My special focus is High School/Adult learners. I would love to come alongside you and help you develop the skills you need to be successful!
I am a recent graduate of Southern Utah University, where I obtained my Bachelor's of Music in Oboe Performance and my Bachelor's of Science in Theatre Arts. I tutor Music Theory/Music and Theatre. I love helping students reach their potential in their studies, as well as helping them foster an enjoyment for the arts and other subjects. I have mainly taught at summer theater camps, as well as teaching private oboe lessons in pedagogy classes for my degree. I aim to establish a sense of trust between myself and students, as I believe education is best obtained by first feeling comfortable. I want to encourage students to do their best, but I also aim to challenge them to think outside the box and expand their minds. Outside of education and the performing arts, I enjoy spending time painting, practicing yoga, paddleboarding, and reading.
