I am a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. I started peer tutoring in high school, staying after school to help fellow students with AP Chemistry content before major exams and quizzes. I currently tutor in math (up to AP Calculus BC/Calculus II), chemistry, physics, biology and offer test prep for the SAT and several SAT Subject tests. However my favorite subjects to tutor involve chemistry, due to the various real world examples that make the subject more comprehensive and ultimately enjoyable for students. My hobbies and interests include dancing, solving crossword puzzles, binging Netflix TV shows and hiking.

Since graduation, I have pursued a Master of Arts degree in Geography at the University of British Columbia, where I served as a teaching assistant for several college courses. After leaving beautiful British Columbia, I moved to Sofia, Bulgaria where I undertook independent research as a Fulbright grantee. When I completed the Fulbright fellowship, I stayed in Bulgaria for the summer, teaching Computer Science at a summer camp for high school students. While my formal studies have focused on geography and the other social sciences, I am passionate about a broad range of subjects including history, math, philosophy, and literature. When tutoring math in preparation for the SAT, I love witnessing the gestalt moment when students realize the solution to a problem. In my spare time, I enjoy reading literature and criticism, swimming and sailing, camping and hiking, and, when I can, travel.

I am currently attending Johns Hopkins University, pursuing a dual degree in Computer Science and Applied Math and Statistics. I love helping students and I love the feeling I get knowing that I was able to use my knowledge to make someone else happier. My favorite subject to teach is math because there are so many ways to learn it and if one way does not help I can use another. I am a graduate of Davidson College and Columbia University. My BA is in English, supplemented with studies in art history and Russian language. I studied abroad in Australia my junior year, where I studied literature and studio art. At Columbia, I earned my Master's in Fine Art in creative writing, with a focus on nonfiction. I have taught in the Columbia Summer High School Program and other Columbia programs, helping students of all abilities with all genres of creative writing, and with reading comprehension. These have been relatively small classes, where I have had the opportunity to get to know my students and provide advice and guidance based on my own academic career. I love helping students in all aspects of college prep, from SAT prep to time management to managing personal anxiety. I also tutor in English literature and GRE test prep. I believe that education should not only prepare one for the job market, but enrich one as a person, providing a wider and deeper worldview. I believe in not only teaching the mechanics of a subject but in helping a student understand the reasons behind those mechanics, to truly think about the material. This results not just in rote memory of facts but in more sophisticated critical thinking and the ability to generate new ideas, two skills that will serve a student for a lifetime, academically, professionally, and personally.

I graduated from West Islip High School as class valedictorian in 2013. My tutoring career began on a mission trip to El Salvador in which I tutored children from different villages in English and Math. Since then I have been a peer tutor for all four years of my high school career, tutoring all subjects. I went on to do a community outreach tutoring program for children in the community of Providence, Rhode Island near my university. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are Math, Spanish, Environmental and Earth Science, and Biology. I'm passionate about helping students because I've seen many have that "a-ha moment" while tutoring, and I know how important those moments are to their understanding and learning. I want to help more students find those moments of clarity in whatever subject they are struggling in so that they can have more confidence in their abilities and succeed. Because I majored in Neuroscience, I have expertise in a wide range of sciences, as Neuroscience is a very interdisciplinary subject. I have also had extensive experience in Computer Science. Outside of Neuroscience, I devoted a lot of time to studying the humanities. I even started a blog my junior year as an outlet to further pursue these academic interests!
