I graduated with my Master's in English Education in 2013, and I am currently a 6th and 7th grade Humanities teacher working in the New York City public school system. I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students - from those in gifted and talented programs to English Language Learners to students with special needs - in their journey to becoming great readers and writers! While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about cultivating strong literacy skills and a love of reading in all my students. I've found that discovering what books interest my students can give me wonderful insight into who they are and who they are becoming. I am committed to and passionate about literacy, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. I am currently a Full-time student at the Atlantic Acting School. Before I took the leap into performing arts, I was an auditor for 3 years with Grant Thornton where I received my ACA qualification (British equivalent of CPA). It's been a challenging but exciting transition.I've moved around a lot in my life. I was born in the US, but my family moved to Beijing, China when I was 7. We moved back to the US when I was 14 to attend high school. For college, I graduated with Honours from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland with a Masters in Economics. I then worked in Hong Kong for 1 year at an Economic policy think tank, before moving back to England to work as an auditor.In my spare time, I love to watch as much theatre and eat as much good food as I can afford. I am also an avid traveler, skier and photographer.I look forward to helping my students reach their personal and academic goals!

When I was younger I often struggled in school, so I understand the challenges that lead to many student's frustrations. However, I have overcome my initial challenges, and now love the learning process. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science. I feel comfortable teaching to any age or ability level. As a Biomedical Engineer working in R&D, and a recent graduate of the University of Rochester, I have been exposed to all types of teaching strategies, and am very flexible with my approach depending on the student.

I received my Master of Arts in African American Studies. Since graduation, I have served with AmeriCorps, working in an under-resourced school; additionally, I've worked with adults in Manhattan looking to obtain their GED/TASC- I helped them prepare for their high school equivalency exam. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math and History. In my experience helping students gain better studying habits and organization always seems to help them with their overall school work. I believe education is important, and when gifted the right tools, success is inevitable. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling with friends and family, and volunteering.

In the recent years at the school, I have been focusing more on the Reading portions of standardized tests but have at times assisted students in the math and science portions as well usually one-on-one. I strongly believe that every students has their own style of learning and must learn at their own pace. Although, sometimes giving them too much leeway may not always be the best solution, I am there to also provide encouragement and challenge to make the learning process enjoyable and beneficial.
