I am a graduate of Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. I got my MA degree in Biological Sciences in May 2000 . My major focus was on cell and molecular biology. My GPA was 3.86. During my graduate program I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant from Jan1998 to May 2000 conducting lab sections for undergraduate students. I was responsible for the lab sections in Anatomy and Physiology, Vertebrate Embryology and Histology. I administered quizzes and graded tests and exams. I encouraged feedback from my students about the subject matter being taught by encouraging them to ask questions and make suggestions. Prior to this I was a lecturer in KMH Medical College in India from August 1994 to June 1995. I delivered classroom lectures, administered quizzes and assigned grades. After that I worked as a Biomedical Researcher for several years at eminent research institutes like University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Childrens Hospital.I am also the mother of a 14 year old nonverbal autistic son with whom I have worked extensively to help develop communication and academic excellence. Currently he attends the general education class in the 8th grade of our public school. Sine working with my son I have realized that every individual has a unique style of learning. Each student absorbs and processes information differently. I have learned how to adapt my teaching style to match the student's needs by coming up with creative approaches that involve thinking outside the box. Currently I am working as a paraprofessional in an elementary school. I provide 1:1 or small group tutoring to several students with learning disabilities like ADHD, Autism etc. In doing this, I have found that every child has an inherent desire to learn and a natural curiosity. My role is simply to light the spark and send them on a journey to enhance their learning. I tutor a variety of subjects like Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science etc. However, my most favorite subject is biology and biomedical science. In my spare time I enjoy reading poems, watching movies and spending time outdoors.

I have recently completed my undergraduate studies and I am currently a P1 pharmacy student. I have had numerous opportunities to tutor students of various ages primarily in subjects that pertain to my program of study, especially chemistry. Throughout my years of study, I have come to the realization that only after meticulous examination of all the possible scenarios and exceptions of a particular phenomenon can we recognize patterns that may have facilitated our initial attempt to understand it in the first place. As a tutor, I hope to serve as a guide that aids students in discerning such patterns and integrating concepts to achieve a thorough and holistic understanding of the subject being studied. Besides tutoring, I enjoy playing the piano and cello, biking, and reading.

As an experienced educator, trainer, and facilitator, I have spent most of my career in higher education, working and teaching at universities across the country and region. As a National Merit Finalist, I learned to excel at standardized tests, and enjoy imparting strategies to help students "defeat" the test. My approach to test prep focuses not only on content, but on understanding how to maximize returns on tests by focusing on strengths, creating small victories to reduce anxiety, knowing when to guess and when to omit an answer, and understanding context clues. I have an extensive background in etymology and Latin and can help students learn to decipher unfamiliar words. With regards to writing, I am equally comfortable emphasizing essay composition techniques to enable excellence in timed-writing scenarios, or guiding students to develop their own unique voice as a writer. The subjects that I enjoy digging into the most are english and history. I firmly believe in the interconnectedness of everything, and find that in understanding the past, and how writers chose to express their reality, we gain invaluable understanding of our self and our modern world. I love to find points of connection to emphasize the relevance of material to modern students - there are few better feelings than watching a student "get it" and to have played a part in that breakthrough.

Reading and writing have interested me for as long as I can remember. My parents took us to the library every week to find new books and for story hour. I began writing my own creative fiction stories in 6th grade. My love of discussing and writing about literature and other reading made majoring in English Education a perfect fit. At Bowling Green State University, I gained experience with academic essays by tutoring students through the Writing Center. I worked primarily with first-year students on argumentative essays, but sometimes had the opportunity to work with graduate students on research papers and with English as a Second Language students needing help applying grammar rules.Since 2009, I've been teaching middle and high school Language Arts courses ranging from 6th grade reading through Senior Composition. I help my students to recognize the strengths they already have and use those strengths to improve other areas.I am working toward a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition at Northern Kentucky University. This will position me to teach first-year composition courses at community and 2-year colleges. It has also provided me with more strategies for teaching writing.

My career in helping students begins when I was in 9th grade at Walnut Hills High School. I was involved, on and off, with tutoring elementary children of a family friend and editing college essays for nursing students who were short on time. I was known for the precise nature of my editing and the sharp improvement whoever sought me for help saw in their grades. Though my tutoring career ended once I entered into university, this does not mean I was doing nothing; I was busy expanding my skills and own knowledge.Having majored in International Relations, I have studied a wide range of subjects, ranging from basic international politics to the history of mass-consumerism in Europe to Western European Art History to diversity and communication. During my time in university, I also worked as a research assistant to one Dr. Randall Salekin; my duties included editing essays that were either going to be sent to or were rejected from peer-reviewed scholarly journals dedicated to discussing clinical psychology in depth, and shadowing interviews with at-risk teenage boys at the Alabama Juvenile Detention Center.I have also lived in Germany for a semester, and have been exposed to a world and wealth of cultures I may not have been able to witness were I to otherwise have stayed in the United States. Being near-fluent in German has changed my mind and allowed me to think in more creative ways, which will translate into creative and innovative approaches in helping students learn. My exposure to many different people and backgrounds in and outside of academia has also allowed me to develop the worldview and open-mindedness needed to pass on what I have learned to other students in an act of giving back to the education system that has nurtured me and the success I have earned.

I have had the opportunity to work as an educator in high-school, undergraduate, and graduate education settings. I have taught classes ranging from sociology to statistical analysis. I myself was not particularly gifted in these subjects and, as a result, I feel as though I can convey complex ideas in simple terms to students in a broad range of competency levels.
