I am a teacher with 15 years of experience who is passionate about helping students learn. I have worked with students with a wide variety of learning styles and I enjoy figuring out what works best for every individual. I am patient and creative, and I enjoy using my skills and experience to help others be (and maybe more importantly, feel) successful. I received my degree in Middle Childhood Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching through the Global Field Program at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Through the Global Field Program, I traveled to Belize, Costa Rica, Australia, and Hawaii on environmental education ecotours. I am grateful for these travel opportunities as well as the authentic, hands-on learning I received. My graduate program fueled my love of travel and I now have a life goal of visiting all of the US National Parks! I am well on my way, as I have already been to 23 and counting! When I am not traveling, I enjoy rock climbing, playing sand volleyball, rereading Harry Potter, re-watching Disney movies, and hanging out with my dog.I am available to tutor elementary and middle school students in math, science, social studies, English, and reading. I especially love tutoring math because there are so many different strategies you can use to solve math problems! My tutoring philosophy, like my teaching philosophy, is that everyone is capable of learning. All people have their strengths and areas where more growth is necessary, and sometimes it may take a student a bit more practice or a new strategy to become proficient at a skill, but everyone has the ability to learn and grow. I am always impressed by the students who know they need a bit more time or support to understand a concept and are willing to put in the extra work and effort in tutoring to meet their goals. I am happy to be part of that journey with them.

All students, of all ages, are individuals and everyone learns in their own unique way.Learning is a lifelong process and I want to instill that passion in my students.I expect great things from everybody, regardless of skill, talent, ability, or disability.I engage with my students personally as well as academically. You can't teach everything to everyone and true learning requires many different types of knowledge. I use multiple methods of teaching (linguistic, visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to assist my students. I believe in giving students choices rather than directives. I hope they will feel empowered to learn by my method.I entered the age of education again after 20 years-- to earn my Masters in Humanities and graduated in 2014. It was quite a process to learn how to manage my time again, get reacquainted with my study habits, and of course, become diverse in my thought processes and accepting criticism about my work. Learning a new topic or refreshing your knowledge in a subject an be quite scary. I know I was terrified. But, I am here to teach my methods and relive my testimonial through my students, you can fulfill your educational goals and be successful.

ACT English Tutor • +35 Subjects

I am an English teacher because I believe that there is intrinsic value in learning through literature, written word, and speech both as an individual, and as a whole. The focus of my teaching philosophy is critical and higher level thinking. I have a special interest in British and American literature, as well as journalism. I am extremely interested in working in a school that focuses their instruction on differentiation and accommodations to diverse learning needs. I am eager to continue using my acquired skills and education. In addition, I bring passion, dedication, and determination, in my students and myself. My goal is to take my knowledge and impart it on the youth of Jefferson County. I am particularly interested in this position because I want to teach students how to find joy in learning through these mediums. A technology based, family and student oriented community is an ideal community. I thrive in a community and school that incorporate all of these. My teaching experience and college courses have enabled me to develop my skills in using many different types of media, most notably, technology, and I have thoroughly enjoyed putting those skills to good use during my time as a teacher thus far. I have gained deep interest and experience in the area of RTI, and look forward to displaying my knowledge of catering to students with specific learning needs. I believe that learning can be filled with enthusiasm, enjoyment, and passion for both the student and the teacher.
