Conversational Spanish Tutor • +33 Subjects
I graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and teacher certification in Spanish for grades 6-12. I’ve taught Spanish levels 1, 2 and 3 to middle and high school students and I’ve worked with English as a Second Language students to improve their English skills. I tutor in beginning, intermediate, advanced and conversational Spanish. I did Master’s level work in Mass Communications at Texas Tech University and instructed college freshmen and sophomores in journalism and student publications. Being bilingual opens many doors of opportunity. I’ve used my knowledge of Spanish and communication skills to assist non-profit organizations in raising millions of dollars to help people in need. I am tutoring because it is an awesome privilege to be able to help students feel successful in gaining new knowledge or learning new skills. When students make connections between what goes on in their everyday lives and what they are learning, exciting things happen! I believe creative teaching engages a student, and when students are engaged, they are motivated to learn. Students are not simply empty vessels to be filled with knowledge. They have a significant contribution to make in the learning process. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, public speaking, and being challenged by a good word puzzle.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 35 years, the past ten as an instructor in a pre-licensure vocational nursing program. I have discovered that I love teaching and am currently in the process of effecting a change in my career, working to soon obtain my teaching certifications in both Science and Math. I have an extensive background in the Sciences, especially Anatomy and Physiology, as I was an instructor for that course, as well as a provider of extensive tutoring sessions for many of the concepts contained in the subject. I have also spent considerable time helping individuals master basic mathematic principles, often sitting with students on a "one-on-one" basis, as we worked through each step of the calculation process. I am a firm believer that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process, with the teacher serving as a facilitator and a guide in order to direct students to pertinent resources, as well as resources to further expand their mastery of a particular concept, helping them to realize the control they have in their own attainment of knowledge. I love working with students, learning what it is that helps them learn best, and taking that knowledge in order to develop learning experiences tailored to individual needs. I firmly believe that each and everyone has it within themselves to learn, although it might take methods that may seem unconventional in order to help provide that experience. I also believe that learning can be "fun", and often strive to provide an enjoyable experience for students- one that helps them to learn while having an enjoyable time in the process. I would like very much to assist others to master various learning concepts and I experience a great deal of satisfaction seeing the results of success in this area and the increased levels of confidence that often result from such a successful experience.

I am currently a sophomore electrical and computer engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin. I helped out as a general subject (math, science, history, etc.) tutor at Health Careers High School in San Antonio while I was a junior and senior as part of National Honor Society. My strong academic subject areas are math, particularly calculus, trigonometry, and algebra; although I do tutor up to all high school levels of math, computer science programming in Java, Python, or C, electrical engineering topics like circuitry or programming, and mechanical physics. I really enjoy helping other people out because my motto is "ancora imparo," or "I am always learning." So if I can always learn something, I wish to help others learn and do better as well. My hobbies include exercise, sports, and playing video games, basically anything that engages the body or mind!

I graduated from the University of Houston Honors College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Marketing, additionally I graduated with Magma Cum Laude honors. During my senior year of undergraduate I was a biology tutor for incoming freshman and sophomore's at the University of Houston. This opportunity showed how much of a positive impact my tutoring can have on other students lives. Them telling me how my lessons helped them understand the content at a higher level and improved their performance in class is what continues to motivate me to be an adept tutor. Since graduation I have been working as a Lab Assistant that conducts medical studies as well as working my way to medical school. Although Biology is the subject I am most passionate about I tutor wide range of subjects such as chemistry, physics, algebra, and biochemistry. I took courses for these subjects in University. Additionally preparing for medical school and studying for the MCAT has kept my knowledge on these topics proficient. I am a firm believer a quality educator can make all the difference to one's affinity towards a subject and career. My lessons have more of a conversational approach versus a lecture approach. I believe talking through the content and explaining the content to each other is a more efficient way to learn than just listening to me for an hour. This style makes it transparent the content my students do and do not understand, allowing me to know which areas to focus on more. If I sound like the right tutor for you feel free to reach out and schedule a lesson!
