I am a previous High School Algebra and Geometry teacher. I went to Indiana State University and graduated with a bachelors degree in Mathematics Education. I recently moved back to Texas from Montana. I am very energetic about teaching and hopefully I can pass some of that energy onto your children!

This is my first year tutoring for Varsity but I have more than 10 years of experience teaching kids, teens, and adults.I grew up in Mexico and I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology.I absolutely love teaching Spanish because it helps me to show my students the beauty of the language and the richness of my culture.I hope you will love Spanish language as much as I do!During my classes, we'll have so much fun!The primary methodologies I use are conversations-based and TPRS.The first one is based on conversations. I believe that once you start speaking basic and useful conversational phrases in Spanish it will be easier for you to understand the grammar.The second methodology is called TPRS (Total Physical Response Storytelling). In simple words, it means that we use mimics, facial gestures, vocal tones, stories, songs, and games. It is one of the easiest ways to learn a new language and at the same time have fun.Some of my favorite hobbies are* Travel around the world and learn about different cultures.* Cook and bake are also on the top 3 that's why this year I started to share on social media my favorite recipes I learned during my trips.* Taking pictures is one of my biggest passions and maybe during our class, I will be able to show you some of them.

I have a BS in Mathematics and a Master's Degree in Biochemistry.I am focused on providing a solid grounding in Algebra, Calculus, and Chemistry because mastery of the basics are so critical for mastery at higher levels.Although Chemistry and Math are my passions, I also love helping students of all ages and in all areas of study. I particularly enjoy working with younger elementary students in subjects such as math and reading. I think that helping students who are stuggling is especially rewarding. Helping students move from a point of frustration to a feeling of understanding is a great feeling.Most of the time, students seek out tutors because they are not "getting it" meaning they are not mastering the material. This is many times due to the way the material is presented. For this reason, I find it is important to be able present material in multiple styles so that my teaching style matches the students learning style. This is something classroom teach just don't have the time to do.I have a love for mathematics because there is a beauty to mathematics that is just not there in other subjects. It always makes sense and if for some reason it doesn't for a student, it is because the student has lost one or more of their tools. I will help you get the tools you need. I also tutor chemistry and I find chemistry students have similar issues.What makes mathematics and chemistry so satisfying to tutor is that when you give the student the tools they need, you get to hear that "Aha" which sometimes just comes as a small gasp.In my free time, I run and cross-train because a strong body makes for a strong, clear mind.

I am a graduate of Tulane University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, with a minor in math. During my career as a chemical engineer in Texas, Florida, and New York I volunteered as a high school math and science tutor, as well as an adult education teacher through the local communities and found myself dreaming of becoming a teacher. Once I decided to transition to teaching, I also earned my Master of Arts in Education with a concentration on instructional technology. My specialty is math because I have a knack for providing students with real-world scenarios in which to use the math authentically; this comes from my experience as an engineer. To further hone my craft, I am also pursuing a doctorate in organizational leadership with a concentration in school leadership. I believe teaching and learning are the two most important things a person can engage in during their lifetime, and I continually pursue both with a passion. I have recently taken up running and when I am not actively teaching, I also enjoy reading, yoga, sewing, and cooking.

Later I earned a certification in Special Education for Early Childhood-12th grade as well as ELA/Social studies for grades 4-8. As a tutor in college, I served adults who were continuing their education and learning English as a Second Language, (ESL). I also have my M.Ed. from Our Lady of the Lake University as a Reading Specialist. On my journey through academia, I gained classroom teaching experience in areas ranging from, early childhood, special education, and ESL. Now I work as an educational leader for the special education department of an urban school district in the daytime. I can genuinely say I love teaching people of ALL ages. I have high expectations for my students so they can meet their maximum potential. I am particularly fond of tutoring elementary Reading and Math, but I also enjoy tutoring middle school Language Arts and Social Studies. I am also hoping to help students prepare for their state tests. I have experience in targeted interventions to improve grade-level skills. In my spare time, I enjoy my family, my cats, my dog, and my turtle. If I can squeeze in a craft project here and there, I also enjoy this.

An outstanding teacher distinguishes themselves by the high expectations they set from the beginning, which includes creating a safe, inviting classroom environment and establishing arespectful class culture. They serve as the subject matter expert for their field, the "go-to" person for students, peers and administration. In addition, they don't limit themselves to just their subject, but are constantly learning on a variety of subjects. They are demanding and motivating at the same time. They take the time to know their students. They make learning fun and encourage students to solve problems in new and creative ways. I believe that in order for learning to be meaningful, subject matter needs to be associated with learners' individual and collective experiences. Genuine artistic expression comes from inside the student, at times person, at other times in reaction to the surrounding socio-cultural context. To address a wide range of skills and abilities in my classroom, I differentiate instruction to accommodate the needs of students whether it is in the materials used, the student grouping, a longer response time, or the feedback I give my students. I developed and honed a broad range of leadership skills as a Human Resources professional for the United States Army. I was also hand selected by my supervisor's supervisor to coordinate the company's community service project which consisted of 15 personnel tutoring and mentoring secondary school students, achieving laudatory comments from the school site coordinator.
