Anatomy & Physiology Tutor • +21 Subjects
Hi, my name is Trishala, but I mostly go by Trish. I am currently a graduate student studying physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. I completed my undergraduate education at Georgetown University and majored in psychology. Between undergraduate and graduate school I worked as a Clinical Research Associate at Medanta- The Medicity medical institution in Delhi, India. During the holidays, I love to travel and explore different cultures :) I primarily teach by using a lot of visuals, as I believe this is the best way to retain information; however, every student is different and I will make every effort to employ a teaching method that caters to the individual.

I am a college graduate from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology where I focused on Molecular Biology and its application to Human Physiology and Anatomy. During college I would frequently help my peers tackle tough science concepts. I have also spent many hours assisting teachers at the junior high level. I tutor a variety of sciences including: Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Genetics. I also tutor Pre-Algebra and Algebra. My favorite subjects to tutor are Physiology and Anatomy since these subjects are the basis for understanding medicinal practices. Students that I tutor will have a plan aimed toward success in their class and they will gain study skills to help them better develop as a student. In my spare time I enjoy running and swimming for exercise and I like watching sports (especially the NFL).

I also volunteer at the San Diego Humane Society.

I am a Stanford student who loves both learning and teaching. I have taught English at an elementary school in China and have provided writing and SAT tutoring over Skype for a non-profit. I have also volunteered extensively at a local non-profit that promotes literacy at schools in at-risk areas and have also read aloud to young students. Because of these experiences, I am a strong believer in the importance of education in changing lives and reshaping communities.I have loved to read and write from a young age and have enjoyed publishing pieces from research papers to poetry. I tutor students in Math, Social Science and English because these are the areas I am most passionate about.I love seeing my students discover, grow, and succeed. In my tutoring, I strive to get to know each student's individual learning style and then to adapt my lesson plans to the student's needs. I am determined to help each student unlock their potential and find their love of learning through a positive learning environment that is challenging but also supportive. I have also had a lot of experience with the SAT's, AP exams, and the college process, and I look forward to sharing my tips and strategies with my students. In my free time, I love to run, play tennis, read, write, and explore San Diego with my dogs. I can't wait to meet you!

Biochemistry Tutor • +7 Subjects
I am a scientist in Chemistry and Biochemistry. I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California San Diego (UCSD); also, I got my M.Sc. in Chemistry from UCSD. During graduate school, I was teaching assistant during 4 quarters in the areas of Structural Biochemistry, Recombinant DNA, Thermodynamics and Organic Chemistry. During college, apart from studying Chemistry, I taught English as a second language to students ranging from 13 to 40 years old. Moreover, I tutored teenagers who were learning Spanish as their second language. My favorite subject to teach is Biochemistry; I am fascinated by the way proteins are able to perform such amazing tasks in our bodies to keep us alive, healthy and strong. Furthermore, the biological processes taken place every day in our bodies are a vivid example of the great potential inherited in the human machine. I believe that the best way to learn is by teaching and communicating knowledge to others. Therefore, every time I teach someone I always encourage him or her to think as learning as an opportunity to seize the beauty of nature. Besides my interest in science, I like to read novels and biographies of people who inspired the world. Physical activity plays a key role in making my learning process easier and enjoyable; therefore, I run marathons and half-marathons and I also swim. Finally, the people I have tutored have always highlighted the patience and passion embedded in my personality when I teach the material they want to learn.

I am a graduate of California State University, Long Beach and California State University, Northridge. I received a B.S. in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry and went on to get a M.S. in Biology where I focused on population genetics of a local marine fish. I am an avid SCUBA diver and sailor but also enjoy hiking and tidepooling. In general, I love being outside. My passion is for marine biology. I have worked hard to learn more about marine life, and I am planning on making the study of marine life and teaching others my career. So much about biology interests me (organismal biology, molecular ecology, fish biology, evolution); however I have a very specific interest for population genetics of marine fish and fisheries. I understand that not everyone gets as excited as I do about biology (I sometimes binge watch programs like Planet Earth and Life), and I want to help them with their understanding of biology whether it be to just pass a course or because they also love biology.I have had the opportunity to teach students taking biology as a course requirement to those that have a passion for biology. I have taught courses in general biology for non-majors, organismal biology for majors as well as marine biology for majors and non-majors. I have also assisted professors with courses in molecular ecology, bioinformatics, marine biology, and general biology. In every class I have taught or assisted with I have learned something from my students, so I am not the only one doing the teaching. Constantly being challenged drives me to become a better teacher. I enjoyed teaching so much I plan to become a college professor so I can continue to share what I know with others.I generally have a laid back style when it comes to teaching or working with students one on one, however, this does not mean I will just provide answers. My approach is to guide students to the answer by asking questions about what the student already knows and lead them to the answer. In general I use questions and visual activities to help further a student's understanding. My goal is overall understanding of the subject material not just memorizing the answer.

I have experience teaching different grade levels and different subjects. I have taught both 6th grade and 4th grade. In each grade level I taught math, reading, writing, and social studies. I have also taught 4th grade science. I really enjoy working one on one with students and in small groups. I have taught an after school class for a few years to help students in math, writing, and reading. In the class we worked in small groups on many topics including homework, current school and grade level topics and old topics to help with intervention. I have also taught summer school to help students before moving on to the next grade level. I think it is very important to use many different types of strategies to help students succeed. Strategies I have used and find very successful are whole brain learning, cooperative learning, hands on and engaging activities, manipulatives, and technology.

I am tutor with a strong passion for the social sciences, humanities, writing, and languages. I have been tutoring or teaching since 2009 in many places around the world. I just recently got back from South Korea, where I taught AP US, European, and World History, as well as AP Philosophy, AP Literature, essay writing, and SAT. I have also been a teacher in Mexico and Canada.I received a BA in History from the University of California, Berkeley. Attending school at one of the best history departments in the country allowed me to develop a handful of studying, writing, and thinking skills that I try to teach to every student.I believe that all subjects that I teach can be exciting and fun, and it is the job of the teacher to approach the subject in the right way for the student to appreciate the subject. This is not to say, however, that I don't have expectations. In fact, I believe that it is my duty to exploit the intellectual potential of my students.I have a wide variety of non-academic interests; however, the ones that stand out the most are soccer, graphic novels, video games, music, and chess.

One of my favorite subjects while in school was Chemistry. While I tutor a variety of subjects, Chemistry remains my favorite both to learn and to teach. My Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA is in Chemistry, and I have a Master of Science in Chemistry from Georgia State University. From there, I obtained a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from UC Irvine. I have tutored high school students who went on to attend top institutions. Additionally, during my PhD years I mentored undergraduates who went on to attend great institutions, as well, for their professional and graduate degrees. I am also a native Mandarin Chinese speaker. My teaching style is one in which I want to inspire the students to see that learning can be fun rather than be a chore; to have great understanding in any subject requires hard work, but the reward is in knowing and having the confidence to say "I am an expert in this field." I believe in actively engaging the student while teaching, rather than just disseminating information. In my free time, I love to go hiking and camping, read, and play organized sports.
