I am very tired. My enthusiasm and energy are very contagious, and the students leave behind their negative attitudes towards the subjects and get engaged in learning them. At the end, the students come out with a very positive experience after taking the classes. When I am not teaching, I am out playing soccer, hiking, or fishing.

I am a high honors, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature with a minor in French. During my time there, I studied abroad for a semester in Paris at the Sorbonne and the Paris Center for Critical Studies. I received the Certificate of Undergraduate Excellence in French and the Distinction in the Major award for my honors undergraduate research thesis in Comparative Literature, which was on the dynamics and representations of female transgression in the "stepwomen" of folk and fairy tales. I worked as a Writing tutor at U.C.S.B., first tutoring English to ESL foreign exchange students at the university, and then went on to work on basic study skills, writing, and essay planning and writing with undergraduates from all majors and disciplines, while also advising a few PhD candidates on their thesis writing. Since graduation, I have held multiple writing and editing positions, including my positions as Deputy Fiction Editor at the Los Angeles Review of Books and Associate Editor at Phoneme Media, a Los Angeles-based world literature and translation publisher.

I am currently a student at Occidental College, earning my B.A. in American Studies. I have tutored and taught students for the past five years in a variety of subjects in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Melbourne, Australia. I currently tutor in SAT writing and verbal preparation, essay writing skills, English, and Literature. My favorite subjects to tutor are definitely those that involve writing, because they provide fantastic opportunities for students to express their creativity. One of my major goals in tutoring is to help students find a passion for learning the material they are presented with. In my free time I love attending comedy shows, playing volleyball at the beach, and finding new restaurants to eat at with friends.

I am currently attending UCLA School of Dentistry. I have spent a big chunk of my life tutoring. I had 600 hours of volunteer experience tutoring 5th graders in language. I also was the Tutoring Head of the Science National Honor Society in high school and spent every week tutoring high school level biology and chemistry. I spent one summer working at Kumon tutoring children in basic math and reading. In college, I spent two years tutoring adults to pass their GED. I was also an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for a development and physiology biology class, as well as a Peer Tutor for other intro level biology classes. I am a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. I also completed a minor in Public Health during my undergraduate career. Upon my graduation from UCLA in June 2013, I received both Latin Honors (cum laude) and a nomination to the Phi Beta Kappa (P.B.K.) National Society. I have recently been accepted to medical school and plan to attend in August 2014. I have experience teaching in middle school and high school settings abroad in both the Philippines and Honduras. I have also tutored family and friends in the sciences throughout my college career. I am intelligent, articulate, patient, and motivating, which I believe allows me to be a successful tutor. I have extensive experience working with children and am determined to make sure my students not only excel in their classes, but also learn the material well and develop an aptitude for academia. I'm Arian. I graduated from Wesleyan University with degrees in English and Environmental Studies, with a focus on creative writing. For my senior thesis, I wrote a 50-page epic poem that intertwined the geobiological evolution of the earth with my family history.

I'm Katrina--a recent transplant to LA and also a recent grad of Yale University! Reading and writing have been integral to my life over the past few years as a Film and Media Studies and Sociology double major. I believe that crafting text can be a fun hobby and a very useful skill. Yet, it can often be challenging. I know what it is like to need help with schoolwork, and I know what it is like to provide that help for others. I believe that with patience and effort, we can solve any problem!

I am most passionate about English, History, Math, and the SAT. I am fascinated by the SAT. I love teaching struggling test takers how to view the SAT as an approachable, accessible set of riddles and games instead of as an intellectual brick wall. I firmly believe that the majority of people can find great joy in academics once they discover the individual approach that works for them. I see it as my job to help them find that path. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, running, travel, and reading. I am also a section editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books and the literary manager for two theater companies based in New York and Los Angeles.

I am a graduate of Clark University where I received my B.A in Physics and Mathematics. I grew up going between Los Angeles and Paris, always in a French school so I quickly became bilingual.

I am a credentialed teacher with ten years of experience. I have an M.A. in Teaching from USC (Multiple Subject/K-6) and a B.A. in Music from Pomona College. I have taught individual and group violin lessons from age 3 to adults throughout L.A., and I have taught general music in the Lawndale School District and at YOLA (Youth Orchestra L.A.) at HOLA (Heart of LA youth center in the Rampart District). I student-taught in general elementary school classrooms (2nd and 5th grade), and have tutored students at YOLA.

I'm a native Texan and current resident of Los Angeles. I'm pursuing a career in Television Writing and have always had a passion for learning and student engagement. I take a realistic, individualized approach to every student I mentor, making sure they understand the material, why they're learning it and how it applies to their life now and beyond. I'm inspired to work with hard workers who come prepared and motivated to get something out of their material.
