Throughout my undergraduate career I have come to understand the vital importance of supplemental instruction. This has significantly attributed to my academic success and has become a vital portion of education. I believe that I can help assist and bridge the knowledge gap that can often occur in the classroom as well as help develop a long term improvement to individuals approach to the learning process.

I am from Spokane, Washington, and I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Carroll College in Helena, MT. I am now in Washington, DC studying medicine at Georgetown University. I enjoy learning everything there is to know about science. I believe the way to help a student achieve their full potential is to make material fun and interesting. When learning about new topics, it is important to be able to think through problems and not just memorize facts. Critical thinking is a skill that can be applied to all subjects, and it is one that I instill in all students I work with. I have worked as a volunteer tutor in both high school and college, focusing on math and science. When I am not tutoring or learning new things myself, I enjoy being outside, playing sports, and reading. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your academic goals.

It is such a great pleasure to be a Varsity Tutor and help students improve to realize goals! Your time is very valuable to me, so I will break down those complex concepts for you to understand, internalize, commit to memory and score high and/or higher!I have been a teaching assistant for calculus and physics and research assistant for power system design and analysis work at the college of engineering at my graduate school. In two consecutive summers, I was the math teacher and tutor for the Upward Bound High School summer camp which gave me priceless knowledge and experience on what the high school students are interested in learning and what their strength and limitations are, thus I can address their questions and concerns accordingly. From 2012 to present, I have been a GRE and SAT math teacher helping students learn and improve their math (calculus, geometry, trigonometry, algebra), science subjects (physics, biology and chemistry) and developing their knowledge and skills for creativity and problem-solving.

I received my PhD in Physics and taught both university undergraduate, graduate courses in Physics, supervised thesis MS/PhD students, as lecturer and assistant professor (ref 1). The Physics subjects I taught use extensively geometry, trigonometry, algebra, calculus and differential equations (ref 2). I was also a Math and Physics teacher for algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and introduction to physics to a group of high/middle-school children at a local language and cultural education school. I had my background check on file with Kyrene School District when I was a badminton assistant coach (volunteer) in one of the well known high schools in the area.I love to share with people the importance and correct use of Math and Physics for learning or real-life applications, My goal is to help people master Math and Physics from principle to applications as their needs require. I am fluent in English (professional) and Mandarin (native). From my 25+ years in universities and major companies in the industry (as engineer, software developer, team manager), I worked extensively, face-to-face, with people and groups of diversified culture and professional background in roles from teaching, training for 1:1 or large audience, customer support world wide, product demonstration and publication presentations at leading industrial conferences. As well recognized by my students (5 star ratings on all sessions), I tailor my teaching to student's need, resources, priority on the concept or problem solving or both. I am detail minded, interactive, and flexible in working with students ranging from high/middle-school to college/university ages. I pay close attention to student's needs, learning progress, and make necessary adjustments to achieve best results.Thank you for the potential opportunities to work with you and help you make significant improvements on learning the concept and achieving efficient and accurate real-life problem solving in the wonderful world of Math and Physics. I look forward to the rewarding experience of working with my student clients to achieve these goals: true understanding of the subject, able to articulate the concepts learned, efficient and accurate in problem solving, better grades and standing in the class, and/or better performance at work.References1. I love this job because it helps me connect with students and share what I know with them, which I enjoy very much and also makes me solidify what I already know. I am a useful science tutor, since I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor???s in Biomedical Sciences. I am currently working of obtaining my next achievement in life which is getting through Medical School. My favorite subjects are Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I would like to reinforce what my students know and add to it, as if we were building a stair step by step to the to our desired goal.I enjoy reading, solve puzzles, watching tv, watching doctor's shows, etc.

In terms of credentials, I have a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). My main area of academic focus was in biomaterials, which includes (but is not limited to) the study of cell biology, design and use of biological implants, and the design and delivery of drugs. I also pursued some undergraduate research in the area of Biocomputation, which involved utilizing algorithms to simulate biological processes. I also worked as a laboratory teaching assistant for Physics II for two years which involved working with a laboratory section of over 40 undergraduate students of various majors as well as helping to staff designated tutoring sessions for the course material, and briefly as a one-on-one Biomechanics tutor for a few months. I also participated in a few outreach programs (with RPI's Biomedical Engineering Graduate Council) which aimed to get young children involved and interested in science. I also studied the fundamentals of computer programming and data structures during my senior year of university, and have had an interest in programming ever since.Outside of academics, I've been playing the bass guitar since I was 15, with two years of receiving formal instruction. I love playing Squash as well as Soccer (though not as well as the former, plus RIP USMNT but at least Poland qualified), and I also enjoy jogging as well. I also like to both read and write sci-fi, fantasy, and non-fiction currently. My favorite movie is Blade Runner, and no, I have not seen the sequel yet.In terms of my own philosophy on education and my potential role in it, I believe that at the bare minimum, a high school diploma is a key requirement for one to be able have success in the adult world. I believe that I have the potential (through the knowledge I have obtained and my ability to problem solve) to help students in need work towards achieving that end goal, and more should they desire. So, that's why I'm here.

My first introduction to tutoring was in a year off between high school and college. I tutored SAT prep, a subject that causes ire in the eyes of many a college applicant, but was honestly one of the more "fun" parts of my application. It was great to see how my students could eventually come around to seeing standardized tests as a puzzle, rather than a chore.I've since spent several semesters as an Introductory Chemistry TA during my undergrad at Amherst College, where I majored in Biochemistry and Biophysics, magna cum laude. I'm also pre-med; I'm applying to medical schools now, for matriculation in the fall of 2014. I'm very passionate about science, particularly Microbiology. My enthusiasm and knowledge base are my best tools in creating learning environments which are stimulating and instructional.
