I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Additionally, while attending USC I worked with inner-city children to pass on my engineering knowledge with the Iridescent Learning program. There I designed lesson plans that would explore the wonders of engineering and each lesson culminated in a hands of building challenge of my own design. With all this experience I hope to continue helping children achieve their goals by being patient and understanding of their individual needs. This method gives students a sturdy base of knowledge that can then be applied to a variety of practical uses and I feel it to be the most effective way of teaching.

I have been a math teacher for 10 years; I love math and I love teaching!I totally get it: for most people, the end-goal of studying math isn't to become a mathematician or to fall deeply in love with division and derivatives.For most people, math is just a tool that they need to use (or study) to achieve a goal (becoming a doctor) or to accomplish a task (figuring out how much paint you need to paint that funny shaped room).So, I don't expect my students to love math because of its inherent beauty. They might, who knows? I just want to help them use math to achieve their own goals.

I am a Computer Science major currently studying at CSU Sacramento starting in Spring 2016. I studied Computer Science and Engineering for three years at Sierra College, taking math, science, and computer classes for the duration. Teaching is something that comes pretty easily to me - I've been a tutor for many people before, including friends, family, and classmates. Currently I am able to tutor in math, but soon I will be expanding that to include Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics.My students tend to be pretty successful because I'm easy to get along with; I'm friendly and easygoing.
