I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Therefore, I plan to adjust methods in order to cater to the needs of the student.I am currently applying for medical school. I am a caring person and it is my hope that I will be able to learn and grow together with my clients.

I am a graduate of Loyola Marymount University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology and played four years of Division 1 soccer. I will be attending medical school in Fall 2019 at Creighton University. With 7 years of tutoring under my belt, 4 of which included working as a peer tutor for LMU Athletics, I have developed a strong passion for assisting others inside and out of the classroom to reach successful academic goals. I believe having a strong foundation in education is important for future success in our careers and relationships. As a STEM major, I have focused on tutoring in math and sciences as I enjoy working through problems with my students in an engaging manner and finding which methods work for them. Along with tutoring, I am a licensed EMT and perform clinical oncology research for UCLA. In my spare time, I enjoy running, working out, reading, and playing soccer.

I am 22 years old. I graduated from Sacramento State in the fall of 2015 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. While at Sacramento State, I took multiple calculus courses including differential equations. Also I coached high school volleyball for 3 years at my former high school in Elk Grove. I decided to start tutoring after graduating college so I could share my knowledge with many other students to help them succeed in school. Tutoring for me is comparable to engineering. I love both because I love to solve problems. I hope to teach students to be unafraid of solving problems as well. I tutor Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Calculus. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra 1. I like Algebra 1 because that is the beginning of solving equations and I believe that a solid understanding of Algebra 1 is very important for students. My tutoring style is patient and enthusiastic. I enjoy math and I want my students to enjoy it too! My teaching philosophy is you cannot build without tools. In math you need to add every tool to your toolbox that you can because math is always a cumulative subject. Outside of academia I enjoy being around friends and family. I also enjoy most outdoor activities such as running, yoga, hiking, biking, and rowing.

I graduated from University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minors in International Studies & Ethnic Studies. After college, I decided to purse my passion of service and working with youth in the realm of education as I am with my current role as a full-time AmeriCorps volunteer with City Year. Here I tutor middle school aged students in predominately math. Additionally, I have tutoring experience with first grade students in English Language Arts, working with reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. I also have experience teaching English abroad, as I studied abroad in Argentina during my college career. I have worked with, and tutored youth for many years and I simply want to give back. I believe every student, regardless of their zip code, should have the equal access to a high quality education. I have high expectations for all of my students and genuinely believe they will all reach them with perseverance, desire, and maybe a little help from me. I enjoy music, spending time with friends and being in social settings. I am the huge extrovert and love talking and meeting new people.

I grew up in California and graduated from The University of Oklahoma as a double major. I hold a B.A. in French Language & Literature and a B.A. in Public Relations & Journalism. I have taught French at the college level as well as tutored in my universitys language lab. I had the privilege of mentoring elementary school students in a French immersion program. Ive traveled extensively in metropolitan France and the province of Qubec. Currently, I work as a Public Relations professional for an education focused non-profit.No matter how long I study, the phases of learning a foreign language remain fresh in my mind. The anxiety of new grammar and the joy of mastering it are something of a universal with students. As a Journalism student and PR professional, the precision with which I was taught to write has imbued me with a keen sense of what constitutes not just good but great writing. Editing, proofreading, and revision are second nature to me as are the intricacies of English syntax and grammar.Helping others achieve confidence in their work, no matter the topic, is the goal of my tutoring. Everyone learns differently and distinctly. If there were a one-size-fits-all to learning, everyone would use it! So, it is essential I understand my students: what do they enjoy about learning; what challenges them; how do they learn best; what are their strengths; what are their learning goals; how do their goals align with those of their classes? Suffice to say, empathy is the foundation of my teaching style.

After four years of engineering school, one thing I've learned is that teaching is hard to do. Every student learns differently and for those of us who can't instantly understand advanced concepts and apply them in the real world often feel frustrated and left behind. In a way I still am one of the those students but I've found through hard work and some clever strategies that it is possible for anyone to be a successful student and a lifelong learner.I have spent many years working with other students to pass on the skills I've acquired so that they too may find success. I have worked extensively with grade school children in the areas of math and writing through my participation as an assistant teacher with the Visions 2000 Math & Reading Academy. For five summers I worked with far below and below basic students to get them back up to speed in time for the coming school year. Additionally, while attending USC I worked with inner-city children to pass on my engineering knowledge with the Iridescent Learning program. There I designed lesson plans that would explore the wonders of engineering and each lesson culminated in a hands of building challenge of my own design. With all this experience I hope to continue helping children achieve their goals by being patient and understanding of their individual needs. I truly believe that anyone can learn and hope to hear from you soon!As an engineer my math skills have been constantly stressed and my extensive coursework has taught me excellent ways to approach how we think about numbers in both the physical and imaginary space. When working with students my approach is to pinpoint what core concepts they are struggling with and then work to introduce new ways of thinking that will allow them to describe the concept in their own words. This method gives students a sturdy base of knowledge that can then be applied to a variety of practical uses and I feel it to be the most effective way of teaching.

I have been a math teacher for 10 years; I love math and I love teaching!I totally get it: for most people, the end-goal of studying math isn't to become a mathematician or to fall deeply in love with division and derivatives. For most people, math is just a tool that they need to use (or study) to achieve a goal (becoming a doctor) or to accomplish a task (figuring out how much paint you need to paint that funny shaped room). So, I don't expect my students to love math because of its inherent beauty. They might, who knows? I just want to help them use math to achieve their own goals.

I am a Computer Science major currently studying at CSU Sacramento starting in Spring 2016. I studied Computer Science and Engineering for three years at Sierra College, taking math, science, and computer classes for the duration. Teaching is something that comes pretty easily to me - I've been a tutor for many people before, including friends, family, and classmates. Currently I am able to tutor in math, but soon I will be expanding that to include Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics. My students tend to be pretty successful because I'm easy to get along with; I'm friendly and easygoing. I understand that school can be difficult and stressful - I've been there, and lived it, and been on both sides of the tutor/student relationship. I will move at your pace, and when you're having difficulty I can be the resource you need to make it much more manageable.
