Hello I am Darin Brindle,I have over 25 years of experience tutoring and teaching in all levels of Mathematics. I also have experience with Electronics, Chemistry and Physics both algebra and Calculus based. I've been told I have a way of taking the fear out of Math and Science and I make it easier to understand. I even have developed approaches that simplify things. I've always had satisfied students that tell me they learned more from me in a little bit of time than they did in whole semesters in class.

Hello! I am currently a fourth year medical student at the University of IL College of Medicine (graduating in May 2021), and I previously received my Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics and Genomics from Northwestern University. Two things I am passionate about are helping others and mentoring/teaching -- tutoring allows me to do both of these simultaneously! I have previously tutored students ages 5 to >22 in a variety of subjects ranging from different math and science classes, test prep (ACT, SAT, MCAT, USMLE Step 1 and 2), and college/grad school application preparation. My teaching philosophy is strongly based on individualization: I believe everyone learns differently, and it is my job to identify that and appropriately modify my teaching methods.

I greatly enjoy working with adolescents and middle school-age students and helping them achieve their academic potential. My tutoring experience extends back more than a decade. Since early high school, I have tutored both peers and younger students. My students have included special education, gifted, English Language Learners, music/arts students and students with disabilities. I have tutored math up to Calculus AP; English Writing, Reading Comprehension and College Essay instruction; Science through AP Physics; and test preparation for GRE, ACT, SAT as well as state-mandated tests in Illinois and Michigan. Finally, I majored in and am pursuing a Master's Degree in the field of social science. The Master's in Education program at Depaul is preparing me to teach students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds at the secondary level.

I was always someone who thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: engineering undergraduate degree and then law school. Recently, I learned something about myself and that is that I love teaching and tutoring. I found this out by helping out fellow students in my classes at college. Ever since then, I have decided to change my major to education. Anytime I tutor, the goal is to help the student understand the material and understand the most effective way to learn the material for them. I want to be able to help as many students as possible with these techniques. My whole life has been centered around reading, writing, and STEM subjects, so I have learned many different ways to comprehend and understand these subjects. I can't wait to work with students who are looking for this same kind of insight. My interests outside of tutoring and education include reading, writing, and horseback riding.

I have a tutor's first requirement--enormous patience. I enjoy helping students learn and see them get off their sticking points. I have done free-lance tutoring over the years, including SAT preparation, where I have tutored students over their hard spots in reading and math. I have developed the skill of slowly leading the student through the solution in an almost Socratic technique rather than giving the answer. This works well both in reading/English through advanced placement English (finding irony in Oedipus) and in math (all the way from one-digit addition through advanced calculus and analytic geometry). I know my way around undergraduate math and physics well enough to step in to almost any subject.

I am currently a third year medical student at Des Moines University. Before medical school, I worked for a year and a half as a biomedical engineer and research fellow in Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. I also have worked with the department of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City in conjunction with the University of Missouri- Kansas City. I graduated with a bachelor of science in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, and I have minors in Biomedical Engineering and Spanish. Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for learning and teaching others. I always try to make the learning process enjoyable for my students, and I always try to help my students learn to appreciate the subject content through real world applications. My previous teaching experience includes being a teaching assistant for Clinical Medicine and Osteopathic Manual Medicine, and I was a teaching assistant for the Biological Systems Engineering department for physics class (2.5 years) and Heat and Mass Transfer (1 semester). I am also an alumni of the Engineering Ambassadors Network, which is an organization that does STEM outreach with K-12 students to teach them about engineering and other science concepts, and how they relate to the world around them. In my free time, I enjoy various fitness activities, being outdoors, and reading. I also enjoy playing and listening to many genres of music!

I currently work as a teaching assistant at Long Island University in Biological Sciences and Human Anatomy, which requires me to have "office hours" available in order to help students that are struggling. Tutoring students can be very simple and sometimes very complicated, but I always look for ways to make analogies to things students feel more comfortable with so it doesn't seem like I'm speaking a foreign language to them. I get a personal sense of satisfaction when someone stops and goes, "oh, I've never thought of it that way before - now it all makes sense." In addition, often times I feel the education system here is misunderstood and students spend too much time memorizing "steps" to a subject rather than learning it, and inevitably end up failing when they are required to utilize the knowledge in future, more advanced work. In my experience, proper explanations toward understand subjects builds a much more lasting impression and life-long knowledge than short-term exam preparation could ever achieve.

I am a graduate of a school in northwest Pennsylvania with a degree in Biochemistry & Piano Performance and plan on attending Medical School in the near future. In my four years there, I was selected by the department chairs to be the designated tutor for Mathematics (Precalculus to Calculus 3), Organic and General Chemistry, Biology (Cellular, Molecular, Developmental, and Genetics), and Physics, each for minimum of one year. The reason I agreed to tutor again and again each year they approached me is because I simply loved it. It is hard to describe the wonderful feeling of seeing a student you helped master the material in front of you and run through problems like they're nothing. My favorite question since childhood has been "why?". I was never a fan of just memorizing facts, because not only do you not really understand the material, but you are likely to forget it. That principle has transitioned over to my tutoring style. We start from the most basic, simplest core of the concept. Once we understand that, we slowly work our way up until you understand even the most difficult concepts..soon you're able to tell me the reason for every variable in the Schrdinger equation. Sometimes my students also develop a passion for knowing why and I love it. I'm not a tutor automaton though; my other hobbies/passions include piano, weight lifting, classical music (and concerts), composition, and environmental activism. In addition to tutoring, I've spent time in my institution as the head of research regarding nuclear import receptors via the genetic engineering of yeast to express the human AR receptor and the transformation and construction of plasmids.

I founded and led a tutoring program though my four years in high school that connected high school tutors with peers, middle school students, and potentially students from an underfunded local elementary school in attempts to make academic help more accessible. I tutored in a number of different math classes at the time. In college, I worked with a tutoring agency to teach 6-12 year old student Python, Java, Scratch, and Web Development. My goal is to help you learn concepts and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
