I am a second-year student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and I am in the College of Engineering. I am not exactly sure as to what I want to do after College, but I do know that I would like to do something that involves Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. In High School, I would teach/tutor elementary school students at a tutoring center in Chicago called Ivy Garden. I tutor many High School Math and Science subjects (including AP courses) as well as Math and Science test prep for the ACT. My favorite subjects to tutor are Calculus and Physics because they are applicable with many things in your daily life. I am inspired to tutor those who are struggling in Math and Science courses because people are very discouraged while studying these subjects and I feel that, with the proper instruction, not only will people get better at those subjects; but they will become more confident in themselves. I believe that understanding something conceptually is ten times more valuable than knowing how to use an equation and I like using real world examples when I am tutoring. On my free time I enjoy playing NBA 2K and actual basketball.

I am a rising sophomore studying civil engineering at Cornell University. I enjoy tutoring math (algebra-calculus 3), high school and college physics, Spanish, and writing. I have experience tutoring throughout high school, where I was the head of a peer-tutoring program. I have continued tutoring in college as well.As a tutor, I always have 2 goals for students. First, I like to give my students the procedural knowledge of how to solve problems (ie- how would I answer a problem quickly on a test?). Then, I like to delve into the topic more to give a more intuitive understanding of the topic. In my free time, I enjoy origami, music (I play piano and sax), and reading.

I graduated with a BS in Applied Mathematics from SUNY Polytechnic Institute (you may not know where or what that is, but that's ok). In addition, I also received an academic minor in Computer Information Science. Ever since I was a young kid, I always enjoyed helping others out wherever I could. Even today, I still get joy when an opportunity arises. The main topics I enjoy teaching is early stage math as well as Minecraft. I believe in working with students to help build their understanding of a topic so that their confidence increases overtime. In addition to academic work, I also enjoy playing Minecraft (Java edition) and participating in sporting events.

I believe every student is capable to be successful with math, no one is born to be "bad" at math. If you are struggling, I am here to help. I have been a teacher for over 10 years, I am comfortable with a variety of topics. Also, I am very patient and I will explain the same concept over and over again, and use different approaches until you understand it.

I believe knowledge is the best and most applicable skill you can have, that's why I love tutoring. Everyone has those subjects they need a little more understanding in, and I love helping people answer their own questions. Getting the right answer is always important, but I think understanding how you got there is the most integral part. I love working with people to find out how they approach a problem and seeing how they think gives me a better understanding on how to help them. After working with countless high school student, during high school, I know there is no single, definitive way to solve a problem. I encourage kids to come up with there own path towards solving a problem while I guide them along the way. This is my first professional tutoring job and I look forward to finding more ways to help students learn in a manner that they like. Probably my favorite subjects to teach are science and math course, i.e. algebra, chemistry, physics, etc. I love these subjects because they are the fundamentals of the entire universe. Right now, I'm working towards a degree in computer science, but I've thought about switching that over to mathematics-well because I love math. Outside of school subjects; I play video games, do cross country, and like watching documentaries and superhero films.

I am a freshman at Columbia University, currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science. In high school, I was a member of Mu Alpha Theta where I taught students geometry and algebra for two years. I tutor Computer Science, Math subjects up to Calculus III, Physics, and ACT Prep. In my tutoring experiences, I find that learning and adapting to your interests and areas of expertise helps you understand the material on a much deeper level. In my free time, I typically program applications and games in C, C++, Python, and Java.

As the oldest of three daughters, I've spent my life nurturing the love of learning and acquiring much needed patience along the way. My siblings struggled in school, especially with math. I found that not only was I good at teaching, but I loved watching their skills and confidence grow.As a college student, I've found dedication and patience are the key components of proficiency in any field. I've successfully worked with a large range of students, from the smallest kindergartner to the determined collegiate athlete. I specialize in math and the physical sciences, such as chemistry and physics.I can accommodate two types of services -- 1) homework and test prep assistance and 2) long term remedial education. The former is a guided study session. The latter is a bit more intricate. Remedial services include: a customized curriculum designed to target the student's specific needs and cater to their unique learning style; periodical assessments to determine progress and areas of difficulty; and engaging games and puzzles to sharpen critical thinking. Each session will challenge the student in a new way and create opportunities for them to work independently to develop confidence.Several years of teaching and studying math have inspired a variety of approaches for individual success. Under my belt are three calculus classes, differential equations, and linear algebra with more courses to come) --- I specialize in instructing elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry (including trigonometry), pre-calculus, and calculus. All my students were able to raise their grade by at least one letter and some are now tutoring math themselves!A life long love of science-fiction has guided my pursuit of the sciences. My instruction method focuses on practical approaches and has a history of success with a variety of students. My realm is mostly high school and college-level chemistry (with exception of organic) and physics, but if your elementary or middle school student is struggling with science I'll gladly aid them. Many prospective engineering students and reluctant biology majors have benefited from my services, citing my approach of teaching the concepts before introducing mathematical calculations as "life saving".If you have any questions or would like to discuss a consultation, do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to helping you achieve your study goals!

I come from a newspapering family. My father and my uncle were both newspaper editors, and my son Joel has carried on the tradition by being a reporter for the Atlantic City Press (and marrying an editor). One thing my father taught me was that there was no such thing as a useless piece of information. Anything you might know could show up in a newspaper story you are editing. For example, what is the name of Don Quixote's horse? (It's "Rozinante"). This came across my father's desk twice in one week in stories he was editing---and both times it was misspelled. One interest my father passed on to me was Civil War history. This was useful on two occasions, once when a visiting Australia and a writer said he was interested in seeing Civil War battlefields and I took him to see the Manassas, Antietam, and Gettysburg battlefields, and once when I was asked to write an encyclopedia article on Mathematics in the Civil War.Other interests I have acquired from my father were Wild West history, American history in general, and the sciences. I, however, did not pick up his taste for detective stories (outside of Sherlock Holmes). In the first grade my father showed me how to add with carrying, and I have been interested in mathematics ever since. I did not realize how much I was interested in math until the seventh grade when I was entered in a mental arithmetic contest. I did not win, but I did well, and ever since if I don't have a calculator, or pencil and paper handy, I will do arithmetic in my head. The same year I was placed in a class which studied the "new math" rather than traditional mathematics courses. I think I was a shining example of what the new math could do. However, in college, it was disappointing to discover that everything "new" about the new math was covered in one term of my abstract algebra class.I graduated from high school on Memorial Day weekend and the following Tuesday I started my first job in a computer center. This was back in punch-card days, and my job was mainly to sort punch cards before feeding them into the computer. I have been working with computers ever since, and in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, I have a Master's degree in Computer Engineering. For fifteen years I worked for the Department of the Army. For most of that time I wrote and ran war-games on the computer (not video games, but the type of war games that would involve a long list of Army units and sometimes took months to complete). Other systems I programmed included the Army budget, personnel, and the Pentagon car pool assignments. Once when a piece of paperwork was missing, I called Personnel. The woman who answered the phone said not to worry, they had a wonderful computer program that kept track of that particular paperwork. "Ma'am," I said, "I wrote that program." (And I had.) The same day she tracked down the missing paperwork for me.My last assignment for the Army was planning office automation for the Corps of Engineers and writing the specifications for their new computers. After that I started working for a contractor with the Federal Aviation Administration. This time I was not a programmer but a software tester. I worked at the FAA's Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township, where we had computer systems that were exact duplicates of the ones air traffic controllers used in the field. Software written for the controllers was always sent to the Technical Center first for us software testers to hack away at. This was fascinating because not only did it use my years of experience in writing software, it also required me to have a detailed knowledge of just how controllers worked and what they did to control flights.I have also taught as a member of the adjunct faculty at Richard Stockton College. Courses I have taught have included Operations Research, Calculus, Statistics, and Microsoft OFFICE.Now I am retired and looking for things to do to use my years of painfully acquired computer and mathematical skills and other knowledge. Helping students learn what I learned is my answer.
