I am a recent Biomedical Engineering graduate who is pursuing a Master's in Public Health at Virginia Commonwealth University. This career path has trained me to integrate math, science and the humanities together to form systems and programs to provide quality of life for all. I additionally have a passion for education, whether in creating educational programs or tutoring. My favorite subjects to tutor are math or science, however I am confident in most subjects at the High School Level including Latin. I work to stand in the shoes of the student to adopt their perspective to find new, unique ways to educate. Each of us has a unique learning style and learning a students' style is important in conveying any subject or concept.

I received my Masters of Public Affairs in 2018 from the University of Texas at Dallas and my BA in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I studied German in Germany during my time at Chapel Hill. I lived in China for over 16 years, teaching photography to adults and nursery-grade 12 at an international school. I studied Chinese as well. I love taking complex ideas and finding ways to present them for not just for immediate understanding, but also an increased comfort with the subject going forward. This is true across subjects, but particularly in math, science, photography, and various computer software packages such as Photoshop. I truly believe all students can learn, and I enjoy the challenge and rewards working with a struggling student and seeing them "get" something they didn't think was possible. I am a lifelong learner myself. I happily spend time traveling, reading, trying a new recipe or a new craft, or expanding my knowledge of German, Spanish and Chinese.

I recently graduated in May from James Madison University. I received a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with a minor in math. I have studied math through multivariate calculus, and while at JMU took advanced courses in physical and quantum chemistry. I am extremely familiar with general chemistry, and tutored throughout my junior and senior with the JMU Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. In addition, I have spent hours upon hours talking with other students in study sessions and professors at poster sessions and national research conferences. All of this means, I am very proficient in explaining chemistry and math to both beginners and students who are dealing with more rigorous courses like AP and college level chemistry. I am a Richmond, VA native, and since graduation have moved back to Richmond to remain close to my family. I am passionate about alternative energy and the role chemistry plays in driving that technology forward. All of these experiences imparted on me what I believe to be the fundamental tenet for any prospective tutor and pedagogue: there is a spectrum over which students and individuals learn and assimilate information. As such, you must remain fluid and open to continually learning, evolving, and adapting to various learning styles to provide effective edification.One of my greatest strengths is being able to critically analyze things and consider multiple opinions and perspectives. I've gained a lot of knowledge over the years but even that has its limits and I think it is important to remain open to being able to change one's views or thoughts on a matter, be it of a personal nature or something epistemological.

I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers.
