I have been tutoring math, physics, and chemistry since middle school. As I am very passionate about those subjects as well as some related fields and the subfields of those fields, tutoring, and teaching experience for me is a rather enjoyable and friendly time spent doing the stuff that I already enjoy. I have continued tutoring those and a couple of other subjects during my graduate studies in college, where I obtained my B.S. double majoring in Mathematics and Physics and minoring in Chemistry and Astrophysics. It is important to remember that studies can be fun! And gamifying the experience, and making things interesting and engaging is one of the foremost vital things I try to always incorporate in my career -- both as a tutor and as a tutee. :)

I am from Virginia Beach, Virginia and currently live in Richmond, Virginia attending Virginia Commonwealth University as a graduate student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program! I recently graduated from the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar with a B.A. in Biology and Art History. I was in the International Baccalaureate program and also took AP classes, and I was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. I have tutored primarily high school students in a variety of subject fields, but I welcome students of all ages! I am able to tutor many subject areas, but I am especially proficient in the areas of GRE test preparation, math, and science. I enjoy working and engaging with others whether it be through competitive sports, volunteering in the community, interacting with patients, and of course helping students. I hope to both teach students and practice as a clinician in the future, so I look forward to tutoring students as well as learning what teaching styles work the best for different people!

I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals.In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends in family both indoors and outdoors. During the warmer months I love fishing, going to the beach, and camping. No matter what the weather is, I enjoy playing indoor basketball and ping pong with my friends. Enjoying these activities gives me the relaxation needed to stay focused and work hard in my studies.

When I first moved to the United States when I was in fifth grade, I knew less than fifty words of English and the nearby school did not have an ESL program. One of my neighbors, however, saw our family's situation and volunteered to tutor me English three times a week preparing me for the classes at school and setting me up for success. He guided me through every minute questions I had patiently and taught me the problem solving skills that made me become an independent learner.My experiences as a tutor motivated me to share my knowledge to the community. I worked as a teaching assistant for two courses while attending Cornell University, and worked two years as a teacher at a local high school in a Cambodian countryside. These experiences taught me how to deliver complex information and how to adapt to each student's unique learning styles. I believe these qualities will help me become an efficient teacher, guiding my students along the way just like how my neighbor guided me.

With college experience in Biology, Literature, Scientific Publishing Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry with graduate work in Medicine Ive had the pleasure of working with a number of students and peers over the years and enjoyed helping them master material for courses and exams. I pride myself on my patience and believe that, given the right teacher and motivation, any student can achieve their academic goals. I count myself as living proof of that.

After earning two graduate degrees - one in sociology and one in education - I have worked as a diversity educator and advocate. My passion is to help folks see what they are capable of and empowering them to be their full selves. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD young and was told I would never thrive in school. Now I try to help others push through those voices of doubt. My areas of study are psychology, sociology, history, and English. Outside of work and learning, I hang out in Richmond, Virginia with my wife, two cats, and our disastrous bouncing pit-bull. We all hang outside, swim in the river, and find biscuits to hide in.

This includes NYC public, private and charter schools ( verified via: documents, references, student work, photos and videos from 1999, onward ).Regarding skill assessment: I was a Learning Specialist for a child who suffered from Autism, illiteracy and Bipolar disorder. Under my tutelage, he excelled from a Pre-K to 2ndgrade reading level....and from a 1st to 4th grade math level. He is now an adult and friend.In November 1998, I began as a daily Substitute Teacher for Central High School (Prince George's Cty, MD). Since then, I've taught and mentored ages 4 to 23 years-old.For 20+ years, I've protected my reputation with: exemplary child management and mentorship, engaging lessons and joy/humor.
