After working for what seems as a lifetime in healthcare administration, I realized that much of my role in leadership was education. It brings me sincere joy to assist others in learning new concepts through the style that best meets the student's style.

I am a graduate of Hampton University and The American University in Cairo. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts and my Master of Arts in Journalism. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively in Africa and the Caribbean—tutoring, teaching and coaching professionals along the way.While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and early childhood education. In my experience I have helped students learn English as a second language and helped native English speakers command the language through experiential learning and exercises.I am a firm proponent of technology in education, believing it to be absolutelynecessary as a tool (not a teacher) for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. With technology in education Standards of Learning becoming more challenging with every successive academic year, I see the use of technology as a must.I am an educator by inheritance. My mother, grandmother, sisters and a host of relatives are or were all teachers. I continued to teach throughout my career as a teacher for the US Peace Corps, for various charities that offered English as a second language, as a professor of journalism in the Caribbean and as a private tutor for business owners who wanted to understand marketing communications well enough to make wise investment decisions. Out of all those categories of experience my favorite continues to be the Pre-K and kindergarten students. I've worked in both mainstream, Head Start and VA Preschool Initiative classrooms.My most rewarding experience has been in classrooms abroad where I applied knowledge of language arts and math instruction in kindergarten and secondary school classrooms.

I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2014 with a degree in elementary education, special education and math. Since graduating, I have been teaching math in Virginia. Last year I taught 6th grade math and this year I teach algebra 1 and pre-calculus. I have been tutoring for the past 5 years. I enjoy tutoring middle school and high school math students.

I am from Virginia Beach, Virginia and currently live in Richmond, Virginia attending Virginia Commonwealth University as a graduate student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program! I recently graduated from the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar with a B.A. in Biology and Art History. I was in the International Baccalaureate program and also took AP classes, and I was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. I have tutored primarily high school students in a variety of subject fields, but I welcome students of all ages! I am able to tutor many subject areas, but I am especially proficient in the areas of GRE test preparation, math, and science. I enjoy working and engaging with others whether it be through competitive sports, volunteering in the community, interacting with patients, and of course helping students. I hope to both teach students and practice as a clinician in the future, so I look forward to tutoring students as well as learning what teaching styles work the best for different people!

I have a BS of Psychology and I am currently in graduate school working on a Pre-Health degree. I enjoy working with students to better understand subjects because I am definitely the type of student who learns better outside of the classroom and I know that it sometimes it takes different approaches and perspectives to make ideas click. My tutoring is focused on GRE prep & subjects relating to psychology. I firmly believe in understanding the importance of what you are learning in order to make it more memorable and meaningful.Outside of academics, I love playing and watching soccer (avid Liverpool supporter), general fitness and listening to hip-hop/R&B music.

My academic experiences include earning a Master of Science in Biology at Missouri State University, a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Maryland, and an Associate of Arts in General Studies with Science Emphasis from Howard Community College.I am a wildlife biologist by training, and I am particularly interested in urban wildlife management and human-wildlife conflict solutions. My experiences include sampling freshwater turtle populations in Oklahoma, reintroducing the protected Alligator Snapping Turtle in Oklahoma, collecting behavior and nesting data on the protected Lesser Prairie-chicken and sampling small mammals and herpetofauna in New Mexico, collecting data on migratory birds on conservation land, and estimating White-tailed Deer populations in Washington, DC.I have always enjoyed teaching and tutoring Biology, Earth Science, and Statistics since I taught my first Biometrics lab as an undergraduate. My pedagogical experiences also includes teaching Biology and Environmental Science at the college level. My classes, labs, and tutoring sessions include discussions on current events, hands-on experience where applicable, and I have an open door policy when it comes to helping students perform their very best in these subjects.My interests include urban wildlife ecology, birding, and citizen science programs. I am currently finishing a project that included sampling small mammals at a local state park, and planning a research project on survival and habitat use by urban eastern cottontail rabbits in local parks. I also enjoy running and bicycling and am training for my first half marathon.

I was inspired to teach by my own experiences in school; in particular by my professors in Medical School. Above all they treated me as an individual, encouraged me to achieve my personal best and to think critically about many situations within the medical field. Although my coursework is tough, my professors enthusiasm and commitment motivated me to overcome many obstacles throughout my graduate career. These experiences have inspired me to give what I've learned back and demonstrate the same enthusiasm and commitment to individuals seeking higher education. I believe I would thrive as a teacher because of my own enthusiasm and dedication to my subjects; coupled with my ability to relate to young adults.
