I am a recent Biomedical Engineering graduate who is pursuing a Master's in Public Health at Virginia Commonwealth University. This career path has trained me to integrate math, science and the humanities together to form systems and programs to provide quality of life for all. I additionally have a passion for education, whether in creating educational programs or tutoring. My favorite subjects to tutor are math or science, however I am confident in most subjects at the High School Level including Latin. I work to stand in the shoes of the student to adopt their perspective to find new, unique ways to educate. Each of us has a unique learning style and learning a students' style is important in conveying any subject or concept.

I received my Masters of Public Affairs in 2018 from the University of Texas at Dallas and my BA in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I studied German in Germany during my time at Chapel Hill. I lived in China for over 16 years, teaching photography to adults and nursery-grade 12 at an international school. I studied Chinese as well. I love taking complex ideas and finding ways to present them for not just for immediate understanding, but also an increased comfort with the subject going forward. This is true across subjects, but particularly in math, science, photography, and various computer software packages such as Photoshop. I truly believe all students can learn, and I enjoy the challenge and rewards working with a struggling student and seeing them "get" something they didn't think was possible. I am a lifelong learner myself. I happily spend time traveling, reading, trying a new recipe or a new craft, or expanding my knowledge of German, Spanish and Chinese.

I recently graduated in May from James Madison University. I received a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with a minor in math. I have studied math through multivariate calculus, and while at JMU took advanced courses in physical and quantum chemistry. I am extremely familiar with general chemistry, and tutored throughout my junior and senior with the JMU Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. In addition, I have spent hours upon hours talking with other students in study sessions and professors at poster sessions and national research conferences. All of this means, I am very proficient in explaining chemistry and math to both beginners and students who are dealing with more rigorous courses like AP and college level chemistry. I am a Richmond, VA native, and since graduation have moved back to Richmond to remain close to my family. I am passionate about alternative energy and the role chemistry plays in driving that technology forward. I am fascinated by polymer chemistry, and in my spare time love to play music, read, and explore the great outdoors.

I believe in learning about what you love and find interesting so your education can be as fun as possible!I love tutoring writing and English skills and will work hard to make these subjects as enjoyable as they can be for you. Writing is such an important means of communication and I want to help you express yourself to your full extent. In my spare time, I write essays about topics of personal interest, listen to podcasts, write poetry, peruse my local book shop, and go on long runs.

I am a graduate of Hampton University and The American University in Cairo. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts and my Master of Arts in Journalism. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively in Africa and the Caribbean—tutoring, teaching and coaching professionals along the way. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and early childhood education. In my experience I have helped students learn English as a second language and helped native English speakers command the language through experiential learning and exercises.I am a firm proponent of technology in education, believing it to be absolutelynecessary as a tool (not a teacher) for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. With technology in education Standards of Learning becoming more challenging with every successive academic year, I see the use of technology as a must.I am an educator by inheritance. My mother, grandmother, sisters and a host of relatives are or were all teachers. I continued to teach throughout my career as a teacher for the US Peace Corps, for various charities that offered English as a second language, as a professor of journalism in the Caribbean and as a private tutor for business owners who wanted to understand marketing communications well enough to make wise investment decisions. Out of all those categories of experience my favorite continues to be the Pre-K and kindergarten students. I've worked in both mainstream, Head Start and VA Preschool Initiative classrooms. My most rewarding experience has been in classrooms abroad where I applied knowledge of language arts and math instruction in kindergarten and secondary school classrooms.

Anatomy & Physiology Tutor • +20 Subjects
Hello, my name is Sam and I am a cardiovascular physiologist and professor of Anatomy and Physiology. I have a background in biomedical engineering and physics and am currently finishing up my doctorate in cardiovascular physiology with a focus in microcirculation, hemodynamics, oxygen transport, and the effects of aging on skeletal muscle hemodynamics. A student should choose me to help facilitate their learning because of my extensive experience with teaching and tutoring. I have been a professor for the past five years and have taught hundreds of students the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology. Prior to that and up to now, I taught organic chemistry and tutored high school and university students in various STEM classes. All of these experiences imparted on me what I believe to be the fundamental tenet for any prospective tutor and pedagogue: there is a spectrum over which students and individuals learn and assimilate information. As such, you must remain fluid and open to continually learning, evolving, and adapting to various learning styles to provide effective edification. One of my greatest strengths is being able to critically analyze things and consider multiple opinions and perspectives. I've gained a lot of knowledge over the years but even that has its limits and I think it is important to remain open to being able to change one's views or thoughts on a matter, be it of a personal nature or something epistemological.

I am very excited to have the chance to work with students preparing for the PSAT, the SAT, or the LSAT! While I'm originally from Connecticut, I attended college and law school in Buffalo, New York. While there, I worked for a test prep agency helping students prepare for the SAT and the LSAT. In 2003, I moved to Richmond. I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers. I can't wait to work with you and help you succeed as well!

As a father, my children's education was incredibly important to me. Due to the below average school system where we lived, I decided to home school the both of them. Being involved with their education, and the education of a co-opt of other children was the most rewarding task I have ever undertaken. I understand the importance of truly engaging students, of understanding the various styles of learning for each individual, and acting not only as a teacher, but as a mentor. The true goal is to not only teach the student the materials in front of them but to engender a life-long love of learning. Teaching and polishing writing, from a beginning level to college is a specialty of mine, but I enjoy sharing and teaching all subjects to any ages.
