I am pursuing my Bachelor's in Chemistry at New York University. Helping fellow students has always been a passion of mine. I think that the goal of tutoring shouldn't be to simply help students pass tests or raise their grades. My goal whenever I tutor is to help the student feel confident and comfortable enough to continue growing independently long after tutoring sessions. I have tutoring experience in Reading, Math, and Sciences with all ages of elementary students, as well as Calculus and Chemistry with high school students. All these varied experiences have shown me that everyone learns in different ways. Some people need practice with fundamentals, others learn with visual representations, and so on. My goal with tutoring is to help people find the way they can understand something, allowing them to continue independently in the future. My peers and I enjoyed this so much that we started a volunteer program for NYU undergraduates to tutor in elementary schools. This has further exposed me to a large array of teaching and learning styles which I try to draw on when understanding how to help teach. This experience is a major reason why I choose to continue helping students like myself. School can be frustrating, but finding the ways that allow you as an individual to learn can transform learning into a much more fun and rewarding experience. Once I get to know individual students, I can help create practice work or assignments to solidify new skills. For some people this could mean practice problems. For others, this could mean watching assigned videos and following along. If one method doesn't seem to work, I will try something new!I specialize in high school level Sciences and Mathematics, ranging from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus prep. This also includes preparation for SAT Subject/AP tests such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (1&2). I am also experienced with elementary aged students teaching Reading and Math.

I am a graduate of St Matthews University School of Medicine. From St. Matthews, I received my Doctorateof Medicine. I received my Bachelor of Science, with the focus in Mathematics, from Howard University.Since graduation, I have practiced medicine in Jamaica and taught mathematics in New York City. While Iam able to tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite is mathematics. I love math and I am passionateabout helping students master mathematical concepts. More particularly I try to instill a similarenthusiasm for the subject within my students by showing them how math can be applied to benefit them in their real lives. I try to build on their confidence in their mathematical ability while emphasizing howthe process of reaching their academic goal can be a lot of fun. In my personal time, I enjoy runningand traveling.

I am currently a junior at Penn State and I am in a 7-year Accelerated Medical Program. I have always been a science and math geek, so it makes sense that I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and several levels of Mathematics (including standardized tests) since I was a junior in high school. I love tutoring these subjects because I know that new concepts in such areas can be intimidating and difficult to grasp, and finding new ways for my students to understand them is like solving a puzzle to me. Putting myself in my students shoes has always been my motto and, I believe, is the best way to help them academically. Outside of academics I love to play sports such as soccer and basketball while also playing video games during extra time.

"Think like a proton, and always stay positive!"I am currently an undergrad student at the University of Arizona, where I am trying to earn my BA in Physiology in order to go to medical school. Throughout college, I have learned many things, but one that I will always take with me is my passion for teaching and helping others. In addition, it was also made readily apparent that I had another deep-rooted passion in the form of math and chemistry, especially when applied towards the medical arena.Over the past few semesters, I have officially worked as a tutor at a community college, where I handled anything from one-on-one tutoring to presenting chemistry applications to a classroom of students. I have had a lot of positive feedback and commendations from students that I have tutored; one time in particular a professor came up and thanked me because of their students mentioning of how they liked the way I had explained the topic by relating it to real-world examples. For example, when going over ionization energies for elements, they can be thought of in the same way as viewing a plane that is trying to reach orbit. The potential energy that increases with each subshell around the atom is synonymous with the energy that it would take for a plane to reach orbit from differing heights; the plane that tries to take off from the ground will take more energy to reach orbit than a plane that is already in the air, which is the same concept for ionization energies for atoms with removing electrons from differing subshells. With regards to tutoring math and chemistry, I am the most familiar with high school and college level students, but I am comfortable with helping students of all ages. Being able to help students foster their critical thinking and self-confidence along with providing them motivation will help facilitate future learning over memorization. This is the recipe that will allow students to achieve their goals whether they are for a career or purely educational and this is what I am all about.

I strongly believe in the power of teaching, and I want to help students expand their field and depth of knowledge, as well as feel accomplished and good about themselves. Asking for help and support has been one of the most vital aspects of my education, and I hope to return that gift to students through tutoring. I started tutoring elementary school students when I was in high school, and I began advising other high school students for college test prep and applications as I was transitioning to Yale. I am now a sophomore at Yale University. For most of my high school career I attended Syosset Public High School, a National Blue Ribbon School in Long Island. In both academic settings I had great, inspirational teachers who influence the way I view learning today. Patience, validation, encouragement, and clear demonstration are values that I bring into my tutoring sessions. I believe that the most important thing is for the student to walk away feeling encouraged, willing to take on challenges, and feeling equipped to take on those challenges in a meaningful way.Outside of academics I love to sing, play the piano, bake, and read fiction books. My passions for mental health, education, and music drive the extracurriculars I am involved with at Yale. When it comes to personal values, I believe in kindness, honesty, and strong interpersonal relationships.I hope to be able to help your student on their academic journey!

I received my Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY, and I am currently earning my Masters in Education with secondary teaching certification in Mathematics. During my years at Mount Saint Mary College I tutored all levels of Mathematics and was the go to tutor for students if there was not a tutor in the particular Mathematics course available. I am currently available to tutor Algebra, Algebra 2, Algebra 3/4, AP Calculus AB, Arithmetic, Calculus, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Elementary Math, Geometry, Middle School Math, Multivariable Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Statistics Graduate Level, Trigonometry. My favorite subject to tutor is Calculus at any level because it is one of my favorite courses and I can simplify the material to everyday topics. I am laid back when it comes to teaching, and I am also good at relating topics to the student's personal interests. Outside of schooling, I enjoy swimming, going to the movies and hanging out with friends. I also have a big interest in all things Disney.

I am currently a senior at SUNY University at Buffalo. I am working towards a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in education, and I hope to become a high school chemistry teacher in the future. Though I am most passionate about chemistry, I also tutor English literature/language, pre-algebra, and algebra. In addition to tutoring, I have worked as a teaching assistant for two courses in college. One belief of mine that has formed the foundation of my teaching philosophy is that education becomes something truly special once a student applies both the lessons and thinking skills they've learned in their daily life. This is achieved not only by providing active, engaging education but by empathizing and relating with students as well.

As a student who came up through New Orleans Public schools I know firsthand the difference that a devoted teacher can make for a student. I was a decent student during elementary, middle, and high school, but I didn't work to my potential. The educational experience that changed my life was due to my displacement following Hurricane Katrina. I had the opportunity to take a physical science class in which I was constructively challenged. Through this class I discovered an intellectual curiosity that I didn't know I had. My teacher always spoke about how the tests became fun if you understood the material, and in the midst of difficulty found a reason to push on. It was refreshing to have an adult taking an interest in my academic achievement – someone who wanted me to exceed my own expectations. My passion to educate and to be the change in other students’ lives stems from my experiences with phenomenal teachers, tutors, and mentors. Teaching both middle school and high school courses has allowed me to become familiar with the opportunity gap that is affecting students across the country. Considering my own academic journey and how fortunate I've been, I don't merely feel compelled to help young students; I feel duty-bound. Helping to shape the minds and lives of young people is the least I can do to make a difference and honor those who have sacrificed on my behalf.
