I grew up in Houston, TX and received my Bachelors degree in theHistory of Art and Architecture from Boston University. Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to teach in diverse environments including both public and charter schools and art museums and galleries. Being a visual person myself, I find that learning can be a lot of fun when you are able to situate yourself in the setting of a certain subject matter. Want to know about ancient Egypt? Imagine what it would be like to be among the pharaohs and slaves by taking a video tour of a pyramid tomb. Struggling with vocabulary? Try discovering the etymology of words by taking a look at some Latin manuscripts written by monks centuries ago! As you can see, I like to draw in a lot of historic visual references to help learning a lot more dynamic and exciting.I love teaching others about the subjects that mean the most to me: history and the English language. I find It is important to learn about the mistakes and triumphs of the past in order to understand how our actions today can have a positive or negative impact in the future. And I truly believe that effective communication is key in every aspect of life, from getting to know other people, to being able to evaluate situations intelligently, and spreading worthwhile ideas, both verbally and in written form.Even though I find learning a lot of fun, I do get out from time to time, too. On my days off I like to read sci-fi novels, play the bass guitar, and bounce around Kansas City's awesome coffeeshops and art galleries.
I am a current PhD student in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Boston University. I moved to Boston in 2013 to pursue research with the Belfer Institute at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute after graduating with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in French from Allegheny College. Outside of my PhD work, I am an avid skier, runner, traveler and beach goer. My experience as a teacher spans from my responsibilities as a graduate teaching fellow in Instructional Biology at Boston University and my role as a research mentor of undergraduate students. I firmly believe that an effective tutor should be passionate, engaging and patient, as well as cognizant of the individual learning style of their student. As a strong visual learner myself, I appreciate the importance of tailoring individual lessons to complement a student's strengths. I am excited to work with you to achieve your academic goals!
I am an undergraduate student at Boston University studying in the Seven Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program (BSMD). Additionally, I worked as an intern in a graduate-level biochemistry lab researching the metabolically reversed reduction of aldehydes to alcohols.I have 3 years of experience tutoring as an NHS Officer in a wide array of subjects. Additionally, I am experienced in the college applications process, including the drafting/editing of personal statements and school-specific essays.I believe that, with persistence and grit, students can develop an extremely solid foundation of learning that can aid them in tests and everyday life. I definitely stress practice problems and problem solving in my approach, however I am open and flexible to feedback and adjustment. As a tutor, I hope to aid students in attaining their full academic potential!Besides academics, I also enjoy spending time with friends, performing piano (especially classical and jazz), and composition.
I began my love for music at a young age, when my mother enrolled me in violin lessons. The search for a voice that fit my inner music was long, but worthy. I dabbled in other string and woodwind instruments throughout my adolescence, but settled on the bassoon upon beginning high school. I taught myself how to play the bassoon initially, but thrived under the direction of Valentin Martchev at San Diego State University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Bassoon Performance. I am currently in my final year of my master's degree at Boston University, studying with Valentin's former teacher, Nancy Goeres. I am comfortable teaching all age ranges and beginner to intermediate experience levels, and have had significant experience doing so throughout the years with high schoolers, colleagues in college, and most recently grade schoolers. Though my passion is bassoon pedagogy, I am also fascinated by music theory, and have taken several extra years of it throughout my education. I offer a sensitive but motivated approach, and emphasize quality instruction and rehearsal over quantity. I look forward to connecting with new students, whether they be bassoonists or theorists!
I received my undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. I then challenged myself further and earned a Masters Degree in Bassoon Performance from Boston University. I also worked with the Children's Theater Company of New York City while in grad school developing musical theater curriculum and directing plays. After graduation, I lived in Haifa, Israel where I volunteered for 18 months with people from 80 countries around the world! I finally came home to Oklahoma after 9 years. 7 years after finishing my Masters Degree, I decided it was time to pursue a doctoral degree in Bassoon Performance at the University of Oklahoma. I finished three weeks before my daughter was born. Currently, I am the only person who has earned a doctoral degree in the Bassoon. When I began teaching in schools, my first job was teaching Elementary Music and Gifted and Talented classes. I then taught fifth grade Social Studies and moved on to high school Biology and middle school Science. I have also been a professor of music at Oklahoma City University for over ten years. I'm certified to teach Math, Science, and Music, but I also have a passion for History, World Cultures, Study Skills, and Writing. I have been teaching private bassoon and oboe lessons for 20 years and feel very blessed to be both a professional performer and educator. My goal as a teacher is to empower my students to become lifelong learners and lovers of knowledge. I love to travel, and have been to all of the lower 48 states, as well as many different countries. I love sports, jogging, horseback riding, and cooking. I find it especially enjoyable to bring my adventures back to my students and encourage them to go make their own throughout their lives!
I am an experienced tutor in English, composition, reading, and social studies. I am available to tutor levels from elementary through college.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a Master's degree in Biostatistics from Boston University. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in both quantitative reasoning and analytical thinking, which I bring into every tutoring session. I'm passionate about helping students build confidence in their abilities and enjoy guiding them through challenging material by breaking down complex concepts into clear, understandable steps. With over five years of tutoring and teaching experience, I've worked with students across a wide range of subjects, including middle school math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Statistics, and college-level courses like Calculus IIII, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Statistics. I also specialize in standardized test preparation, offering targeted support for the SAT, ACT, and GRE math sections. Beyond math, I tutor economics at both introductory and advanced levels, including Introductory Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Theory, Monetary Analysis, and similar courses. I enjoy helping students connect theoretical models with real-world applications and develop a strong understanding of core economic principles. My tutoring style is patient, supportive, and highly personalized. I focus on fostering deep understanding and critical thinking, tailoring my approach to fit each student's individual learning style and academic goals. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, staying active, and exploring emerging technologies.

I'm a recent graduate from Boston University with a BA in Japanese Language and Literature. I have tutored in the past, and my most recent experience was as an English tutor for a Japanese researcher. I have a fondness for foreign languages, and offer tutoring services for Japanese, as it is a language that is nigh impossible to master alone. As someone who has learned foreign languages through self-study and under the guidance of teachers, I recognize the importance of having access to fluent speakers. I want to enrich your Japanese learning experience and be a person that you come to for help, guidance, and understanding.
First things first- I love learning! As someone who's worked with foreign languages for a number of years, I have extensive experience from both sides of the language learning sphere- teaching and learning. My training in Linguistics has given me a deeper understanding of the inner-workings of both Language and the brain with language acquisition. This expertise helps me take a more logical, natural approach to language learning- something so many language teachers these days seem to miss!By keeping lessons interesting, practical, and engaging, I am able to help students gain confidence, learn to think IN the language, and learn the tools to develop their own language capacities.

I completed the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum at Davidson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Following graduation I completed four years of work at Children’s Hospital Boston in the Hematology and Oncology Department as a Research Technician investigating genetic disorders of iron metabolism in a mouse model system. After my time at Children’s Hospital, I enrolled in a graduate program at Boston University. After six years, I received my PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. My PhD research focused on developing a novel methodology for fluorescently detecting unmodified RNAs in living E. coli cells.Concurrently, I was engaged as a Teaching Fellow for courses in Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. As a Teaching Fellow I instructed and tutored engineering students who easily absorbed Mathematics, but struggled with the life sciences. Working with these students was challenging, but success in motivating and helping them overcome learning barriers to succeed academically was my favorite part of the job and personally very gratifying. I now believe that teaching students how to push through any intellectual roadblocks and overcome learning difficulties can be more important than teaching the subject matter alone. When I am not in the classroom or lab, I spend my time playing water polo or life guarding, surfing and fishing the beaches of Nantucket.
Hi! I am Florida State and Boston University graduate. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Humanities from FSU followed by my Master of Arts in Teaching from BU. I am a certified Language Arts/English teacher who is passionate about making an impact through education. I have led my students to great gains in the classroom with a combination of hard work, targeting misconceptions, catering learning styles to specific needs, and focusing on improving specific skills (rather than a general concept). I believe that for great teaching to take place, there needs to be a deep knowledge of both the subject and the student. I will work hard to get to know students and their individual interests; relationship building will be a foundation for the work we do together. I also have high expectations and will push us both to work hard to achieve the student's immediate and long-term academic goals.I have experience teaching in a charter school in New England, an inner-city school in Boston, a private college preparatory school in Virginia, and a public school in Florida. All of those experiences with students have granted me deep insight into cultivating success. I am passionate about building a student's self-confidence, working deeply with a text, and watching an essay develop. When not working with students, I am walking my favorite park, on my yoga mat, hanging out with my family, listening to podcasts, writing in my journal, reading a book, or listening to peaceful ambient music.
I received my Bachelor of Science from Boston University where I studied Biomedical Engineering. I went on to work as a field service engineer in Atlanta, GA. Learning can happen anywhere, at anytime! I have been working with students and children of all ages for over ten years, in settings anywhere from daycare, to hockey camp, or Spanish Immersion school. I spent the last year teaching fourth grade math in an under-performing public school. In September I will begin working towards my Master's Degree in Theology. As a teacher I aim to determine the specific manner in which a student learns best. Meeting the individual learning needs of each student creates a fun learning environment! I believe that every student has the ability to achieve incredible things and I will guide them to that by maintaining a positive and encouraging environment.I graduated from Trinity College with a double major in Spanish and Religion. I absolutely love tutoring a wide range of subjects including Spanish, Math, English and Religion. In my free time I enjoy being active and playing sports, especially hockey, soccer and softball. I have worked in the education sector for eight years, and my approach to teaching is grounded in viewing myself as an educator rather than simply an instructor. To me, an educator not only teaches course content, but also fosters an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to reach their full potential. I believe student success begins with feeling seen, valued, and capable of learning. As an educator, my goal is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students are comfortable being themselves while developing the skills needed to become responsible and independent adults. I recognize that community college students come from diverse academic, cultural, and personal backgrounds, and I intentionally differentiate instruction based on students' abilities, preparation, and potential. By maintaining high expectations while providing appropriate support, I aim to help all students progress toward their academic goals. In my biology courses, I provide multiple learning outlets to support different learning styles and levels of readiness. These include structured lecture slides, guided review materials such as Quizlet, hands-on laboratory experiences, and engaging in-class activities that encourage collaboration and active participation. I am also available for individual and small-group tutorials to provide additional support, clarify challenging concepts, and help students build confidence in their learning. I emphasize active and experiential learning to deepen student understanding of biological concepts. My curriculum is largely student-centered, allowing students to take an active role in their learning, and I assess understanding through a variety of formative and summative methods. To challenge and inspire students, including those at a high school or introductory college level, I incorporate exposure to scientific research papers. Reading and discussing current scientific literature helps students develop critical thinking skills and expands their awareness of ongoing developments in the field of biology. My experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate program has cultivated a global perspective and an appreciation for diverse cultures and lived experiences. This informs how I connect biological concepts to real-world contexts that are meaningful and relevant to students' lives. I find that students are more motivated and successful when they can see how course material applies beyond the classroom, and biology naturally lends itself to these connections, from human health to environmental issues. Ultimately, my goal is not only to teach biology, but to support students in becoming confident, perceptive thinkers who can apply scientific reasoning in academic, professional, and everyday contexts. By fostering genuine engagement, differentiated instruction, and inclusive learning practices, I aim to promote student persistence, confidence, and long-term success within both the classroom and the broader community.

We live in a society that embraces all cultures. Every child should be appreciated for who they are and what they can contribute to the American Melting pot. Consequently, I believe that every child has the ability & the right to learn. Once a student is comfortable with who and what he or she is destined to be then it is easier for them to appreciate and not be intimidated by other students. Each student has a unique contribution to make in this global society today. In my spare time when I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, exercising, jump roping, playing chess, soccer, and running. While I tutor a broad range of subjects which encompass Math, Physical Sciences & Engineering Sciences I am most passionate about are the high school math subjects : Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, and Probability & Statistics. These Math topics exercise and challenge the critical thinking and analytical skills of students which are needed for them to function as responsible students in a global society.
