I have a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Mathematics Education and currently teach mathematics at Mercy College. I have tutored math since high school. I also have volunteered in this area, tutoring elementary school students in the Bronx for three school years. I enjoy tutoring all levels of mathematics from elementary level through college. At the high school and college levels, I especially enjoy teaching any level of algebra.I think of math problems as interesting puzzles and I hope to impart that sense to my students. I also believe that there is too much emphasis on speed in calculation or solution. I like to emphasize the importance of logic and understanding rather than speed or rote memorization. I have found that students who never liked math before can often become much more positive and accomplished when this approach is used.I left my career in law to become a mathematics teacher!I love yoga and practice regularly. After spending a few decades in the manufacturing sector, I decided to come back to the field of education in order to contribute to posterity. During my undergraduate, I was heavily involved in mentoring younger students in my department. I taught a class on Greek literature in translation as a volunteer teacher through Splash at Yale. I helped moderate discussions of current events between high school students as a board member of Yale Model Congress.

I am a mature and responsible woman with several years experience as a tutor. My certification is for grades n-6; however, I have experience with students of all grade levels. My preference is to work with students at the public library as it offers a conducive atmosphere and resources. However I will consider traveling to a private home if the latter is not possible. My passion for service and my purpose in making a difference was what led me to the field of study in law.I have spent the past 13 years working in Corporate America as an Administrative Assistant supporting senior managers booking travel, managing calendars etc. Although I love my job I always feel I wanted to do more, I felt I wasn't making much of an impact and contributing to society. Working with senior managers has helped me to become a well rounded individual but something was missing.I've always looked for ways I can do more and fulfill my purpose by making a difference. I have a passion for learning and as a result I have always looked for ways to increase my knowledge. I have volunteered with organisations such as LIU school of continuing Ed. where I use my weekends to tutor students learning English I have also volunteered at 1199 Adult Learning Center each time I completed a class I would feel so fulfilled I felt I was making a difference and this made me happy. I have also completed a TESOL program during the time I was tutoring to help me be better equipped to assist the students. I have also traveled to Tanzania numerous times and found the Swahili language interesting as well as the people.Education is very important to me and this is the reason I have decided to enroll in the World Language Teacher Graduate Certificate Program. I do believe that shaping minds from a young age is essential to how one's future is shaped.
