I am a University of Miami alumna, and graduated summa cum laude in 2012 with a B.A. in English Literature and a minor in History. During my time at the University of Miami, I worked as a tutor for the University’s Athletic Academic Services, where I tutored student athletes in a variety of subjects, and helped them devise study schedules that maximized their academic success. Since then, I have worked as a full-time tutor in a Massachusetts high school, where I provided focused Math instruction to a personal caseload of 12 ninth and tenth graders, and also as a Spanish language tutor for adults and college-aged students in Miami. Many of the students I have worked with are English language learners, and I am comfortable tutoring in both English and Spanish. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I most enjoy tutoring Literature, Composition and language. I am an enthusiastic reader myself, and also enjoy trying out new DIY projects and going on meandering bike rides in my spare time.

I have many experiences that have prepared me to be an excellent teacher. I was a tutor throughout high school and college. In 2011 and 2012, I spent two months in the Dominican Republic teaching children at two elementary schools. In October of 2015, I taught English to a kindergarten class in Hermosillo, Mexico. Since my first experiences with teaching, I have had a passion for learning and a passion for teaching others. This fall I will be a teacher at Success Academy. In May, I graduated The King’s College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. My experience at The King’s College has motivated me to excel academically and develop my skills in critical thinking. Above all, my time at The King’s College has taught me how to write prolifically and understand ideas with both breadth and depth.Outside of tutoring, I have a passion for traveling. Most recently, I visited the cities of Bogotá and Santa Marta in Colombia. I also love photography and writing.

I really love to learn, and I hope I can share this excitement with everyone I tutor. The best learning happens when both the teacher and the student approach the topic with an open and curious mind--the second we think we "know everything" learning stagnates and life as a whole becomes dull.

I am a life long learner with extensive experience tutoring students in a variety of subjects: Math, foreign languages, humanities, etc. I have a Masters from Tulane University and I'm currently prepping to return to school to pursue an MBA. The ability to connect authentically is at the heart of my core skillset: I've lived in 4 continents and picked up several languages along the way. These highly social and outgoing experiences inform my global worldview and deep understanding of what sparks interest in the eyes of my students.Resilience, confidence and intellectual curiosity can take one to amazing places. In fact, these traits have given me the ability to develop engaging tutoring sessions that incorporate information from various disciplines to help students reach their full potential in the classroom and the workplace. My approach to teaching is not to just to impart information, but to share information in such a way that will empower students to ask questions. This approach will strengthen their ability to think critically and solve challenging problems. Seeing the joy in students eyes when they finally grasp a concept is the ultimate reward. When I'm not working I love playing tennis, traveling and exploring cool neighborhoods in the city.

My passion lies in helping students find what they are best at and connecting their interests with what they are learning. My classroom teaching experience lies in 6-12 STEM, but my tutor experience spans the gambit of subjects and grade levels. I am always up for the challenge of supporting students in excelling at their studies by deepening their comprehension so they learn to understand, not to just pass the test. I look forward to working with you and learning more about you as we collaborate in our time together.

Hello! I'm a teacher, writer, and actor with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater from Marymount Manhattan College, my TESOL license, training in AP English tutoring, and research experience studying historical movements in drama and dance. My teaching experience includes my current position as an online ESL teacher; a previous TA position for a theater course, during which I edited papers and led review sessions; a position as dramaturg for a collegiate playwriting exchange between students and incarcerated individuals, which required me to provide writing support and research; a child guardian position for a 10-year-old actor, during which I assisted her in online coursework; and tutoring jobs with high school students in English and writing (two years). Furthermore, I've taught in less traditional classrooms as a dance and movement teacher for toddlers, a swim instructor for children aged 1-12, and I was a nanny for 5 years, which involved lots of homework help and academic encouragement.Additionally, I worked for two years as a local newspaper correspondent, where I wrote full-length news and editorial pieces as well as news briefs each week. Lastly, as a research assistant to my college professor, I conducted research about the history of U.S. social dance, and presented my findings in research summaries, a podcast format, and in a series of lectures to upperclassmen at the college. Through this work, I've developed an attentive editing eye, and a sense of how to guide students toward establishing cohesiveness, organization, clarity, and personal voice in their writing. The experience I hope to provide in my classroom is a compassionate challenge. I see students get so stressed and overwhelmed by all that is expected of them, especially if they feel that they are struggling with a subject or concept. This can result in "mental blocks" and even a self-defeating mentality. I aim to lift this pressure by modeling concepts in a clear manner with a lighthearted tone. I use the "I do, We do, You do" model of scaffolding to model skills, support the student in their practice, and ultimately guide them towards independence! I also utilize rewards and often try to make learning into a game. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes with me so they are willing to engage in challenging work which stretches them to do their best.My combination of experiences in teaching, writing, childcare and theater offers a unique perspective with which I will challenge and motivate my students do their best work. I'm passionate about learning, energetic and compassionate to the individual needs of my students.

AP Chinese Language and Culture Tutor • +10 Subjects

With years of online and in classroom teaching experiences in the United States, Europe, and China, as well as doctoral training in the specialty of Chinese language and literature, I am confident in my ability to become the right Chinese tutor you are looking for.I started working as a Chinese instructor in the United States in 2008. I had the wonderful opportunity to instruct both secondary and college-level students. The diversity of students made me developed highly effective teaching techniques and instructional methods, which allowed me to educate all levels of learners. After 2010, I worked as a Chinese lecturer in a University in Europe. With more strict and systematic teaching training there, I turned into a more professional teacher in all aspects of Chinese instruction. After years of teaching, I resumed my academic pursuit and obtained my doctoral degree in Chinese Modern Literature and Culture in December 2014.As a Chinese instructor, I aim to develop my students' understanding of Chinese language and culture, helping them view China as a understandable country. Students came to my class with all kinds of inquiries about China at the beginning, but after several courses, they said that they could better understand Chinese people and China, and I count that as a big success. For me, culture and language learning are tightly connected. In my courses, I always try to explain the new words and sentences in a cultural background, for example, when we were learning the character for "study," I tried to depict an vivid picture for them. I told my students, the strokes on the top of this character stands for the adults holding woods with their bare hands trying to build a safe house for their kids, thus the kids could go to this safe place to learn new knowledge, and this is why you can see a "kid" at the bottom of the character. From my explanation, the students could not only remember this character, but also figured out the original educational philosophy of China. Furthermore, students could make comparison between Chinese teaching philosophy and American teaching philosophy, and this made them understand China more profoundly.I have taught many courses including AP Chinese, Chinese in speech and writing (elementary, intermediate, and advanced), oral Chinese proficiency (level 1 and 2), Chinese characters (level 1 and 2), and business Chinese. I also developed courses like Chinese modern literature and Chinese film studies. There is no doubt to me that my background will make great contributions to your Chinese learning.
