Hi, really nice to meet you! I have 10 years experience teaching GRE. I taught GRE and GMAT as an Adjunct Professor at American University for 3 years, which enhanced my ability to create a standardized GRE itinerary for the classroom. I have taught GRE at Varsity Tutors for 5 years, in person and virtually to individual students, and I was rated in the top 10 percent of tutors by students. Prior to working at Varsity, I taught at Princeton Review for 2 years, teaching the GRE in a classroom setting. I received a score of 730 on my Verbal Section and a score of 770 on my Quantitative Section. I use the ETS GRE text, as the Educational Testing Service (ETS) creates and administers the exam, and I find it the most realistic indicator of how the questions will appear on test day. I hand out guides for the Quantitive section (with formulas and hints for the Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Data Analysis chapters) and the Verbal and Essay sections (with tips for learning vocabulary and guides for Sentence Equivalence, Reading Comprehension, and the Issue Essay). I received my BA in English Literature and U.S. History from Vanderbilt University in 2005, my MA in U.S. History from The George Washington University in 2010, and my MBA in Medical Policy Management from the University of Minnesota in 2024.

Saludos! I am a former teacher of Spanish for grades 7 through 12, including Advanced Placement classes, as well as an in-house language instructor, translator, and interpreter for a large engineering company. I am a magna cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University with a major in Spanish, and I've done graduate coursework in translation/interpretation at Georgia State University. My work history also includes 40+ years in the fields of international education and international development. I have lived in Spain, Mexico and Guatemala. My schedule is quite flexible as I am recently retired. How does a native English speaker end up teaching Spanish and loving other languages and linguistics in general? It all stems from the influence of the person who initially piqued my interest -- my 9th-grade Spanish teacher! I try to bring not only those same teaching skills but also -- and even more importantly -- that same contagion and excitement for learning Spanish to my tutoring.

I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University working toward a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Mathematics. I have been tutoring for three years, and I love working with kids and helping them find their confidence in school work. I tutor Calculus, Algebra, Math, and Middle School Math, and I can also help with ACT prep (I have a lot of tips and tricks that helped me!) My favorite subject to tutor is math! I love working through different problems and the feeling of satisfaction when figuring out a tricky problem! I love teaching others tricks to complete math problems. I am passionate about teaching because I want to help others find an appreciation for learning, and I feel this comes when students feel confident in their abilities to complete schoolwork. When I begin teaching upon graduation, I want to work to end the mental health stigma and make sure that all of my students feel comfortable in my classroom. I believe that school should emphasize learning over memorization, and I do not want my class to add a significant amount of stress to students' lives. As a tutor, I hope to help kids decrease their stress levels by being able to complete work in an efficient way with me. Outside of academia, I love dancing, lifting, reading, watching Netflix, and spending time with friends.

I am an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University, studying neuroscience and cognitive science in a double major, with a minor in saxophone performance. I have always had a fascination with the concept of understanding, which was a huge factor in the decision to be a neuroscience major. I am very interested in how people learn things, and how they understand the phenomena around them. Due to this fascination, I have spent many hours trying to figure out what makes certain learning techniques "better" than others, and I have become well versed in a variety of teaching styles. Personally, I learn through understanding, and try to teach others through that same understanding. In my spare time I like to practice piano, guitar, and, of course saxophone. I also love to sail, to read, and to draw when I have extra time.

I am most happy when I am actively learning, sharing, and growing with others. My favorite job I have had, and the one I was probably best at, was another teaching/mentorship role as camp counselor for 4 summers. I worked with all ages from 8 to 15 but mostly got to know campers ages 12 to 14.I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development in 2017. Most of my assignments during my undergraduate experience were essay- or presentation-based, but I also have taken math classes up through multivariable calculus.I have taken the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and GMAT multiple times and have a firm grasp on those tests.I like to teach in the exact same way I learn, by getting to the root of an idea, problem, etc. If you memorize a formula or a grammatical rule, you can remember it for the test, but you'll forget it a week later. If you learn why that formula or that rule exists and why it works, you'll retain that information for far longer and can rediscover and recall it much more successfully down the line.Academics aside, I love to tell jokes, write funny poetry, play chess, go skiing and hiking, and swing dance.

During my time in graduate school, I taught university level general chemistry and analytical chemistry courses and laboratories and have helped hundreds of students understand and apply a wide range of concepts and tools to better understand both practical and theoretical problems in and outside of the laboratory. The key is to build off of what you know and work in steps to understand each problem and how to solve it. I think being able to relate a problem back to what you already know is the best way to understand difficult concepts or problems, and I will use that along with the knowledge and skills I've gained over the ten plus years I have been studying chemistry to help you in any way I can. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, board games, watching college football, NFL football, anime, manga, and sci fi.

I am an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University who is pursuing a major in mathematics and a minor in computer science. My experience in tutoring environments entails working at a learning center teaching mathematics and serving as a volunteer in various mentorship and tutoring programs. While I have taught various subjects such as financial literacy and music, I especially love to work with students in mathematics as well as SAT preparation. In mathematics, I often feel that the way it is taught in schools can cause students to struggle with or lose interest in it. Additionally, a student cannot always have their questions or misunderstandings personally addressed in a classroom which can be particularly frustrating in math. I enjoy getting students excited about mathematics by helping them overcome difficulties in understanding that come from being in such an environment. As for the SAT, I believe that in my own endeavor to do well on it; I have developed approaches to and understandings of the test that will greatly help students preparing for it. The test can be rather daunting for a student so having someone to guide studying and the development of the skills necessary to do well on the SAT is greatly valuable.Outside of academics, music is a huge part of my life; I am an avid trumpet player and am part of a music-based fraternity. Additionally, I enjoy hikes and nature walks with my dog, video games, and television shows about cooking.

Having discovered my ADHD in college, I understand firsthand that the typical way of studying doesn't work for everyone. This personal insight drives my tutoring approach, emphasizing the need for personalized learning experiences. I firmly believe that teaching should be flexible and learning should resonate with the learner above all. I started tutoring younger kids when I was a Freshman in high school. I was fairly well known at my dancing school for being a bit of a bookworm, and I was frequently seen helping girls with some tough math homework before I went into class. Eventually, parents started asking me to help their children on a more regular basis: coming to their homes every week to help with homework or prepare for a big test. This experience is what started my love of teaching. As a sophomore in high school, I began working as a camp counselor at my church and even stayed during the year to volunteer as a Sunday school teacher. Plenty of my students would run out of the classroom to show their parents the craft we made or tell them the story that we learned that week. One of my students even picked me out at a basketball game and screamed "Miss Kelly!" until I went over to hug him. I certainly miss my students, but I had to leave them as I ventured to Nashville for my college career. Now as a Chemical Engineering major, I am still asked by my friends to help them with their math and chemistry homework. I get calls from home asking if I can get on Skype to explain something, and I am always happy to oblige. I understand that my education is a privilege, and I want to do my part to help every person have the same opportunities that I had.

I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, where I am currently a sophomore pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in Medicine, Health, and Society. Being a student, Ive understood the frustration of not knowing what to do or who to turn to in the moment I dont understand something. This feeling can be very disheartening, but having the right person to guide you can make all the difference. For struggling students, I want to be that person to help them reach their full potential. In high school, I tutored people (mostly high school students like myself at the time) within the community, and it was personally rewarding every time I saw a student gain confidence in their studies.I believe that learning should be enjoyable, comfortable, and productive for everyone. Because every person learns differently, it is important to decide what learning style suits each student best and to establish an environment where the student is comfortable to actively engage and ask for any help they need. Therefore, my teaching style is rather flexible, accommodating, and goal-oriented.I tutor many subjects ranging from English, math, Spanish, social sciences/humanities and test prep. I enjoy tutoring subjects within social sciences because I find them the most interesting to discuss, as well as test prep because it is very straightforward to teach. I've found that STEM courses are intimidating to many students, and I hope to get rid of that fear and promote an appreciation for numbers and the sciences. I strongly believe that every student is capable of reaching a strong level of understanding in any subject, given the correct tools, a teacher who can offer what they need, and some hard work.I am also available for standardized test prep. The SAT and ACT are one of the biggest hurdles in the college admissions process, and a score can make or break an application. Luckily, students can prepare for these tests fairly easily - repetition, time-management, and concept-review are all most students need to improve their scores, and I am happy to teach them how to do it.In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, reading books about international politics and history, watching TV and movies, and listening to music.

I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History with a minor in Art History. Since graduation, I have worked full time in business development for a large healthcare corporation and have also pursued entrepreneurial/ start-up ambitions. I have made time to travel the world (recently visited France, Switzerland, Italy, India, Brazil, and Iceland). I have played guitar for over 15 years and also spend time drawing live models! For several years I was a tutor and coach for the Boston Scholar Athletes Program, a program focused on teaching English and Math to student-athletes and then coaching them in soccer. I tutor a broad range of subjects, although I am most interested in Algebra, History, and English Literature. I am constantly learning and looking to help others learn too! I love teaching and strive to achieve that "AHA!" moment.
