Learning is a two-way street, where we can gain only so much by ourselves. It is human nature to interact with one another, and gain from that experience something much more than what can be learned individually. It is for that reason that students need to interact with their learning, such as with a tutor, in order to better cement the content learned in school. I feel that I am qualified to guide students on that journey. I hold a master's in education from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Arizona State University. Experience in tutoring extends from being the Saturday school coordinator at my local high school, to working with at-risk students in a credit recovery setting at an online night school. Other than teaching and tutoring, I enjoy relaxing by spending time with my wife, playing video games, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Phoenix Suns.

I just returned from spending my last semester studying in Prague, Czech Republic, travelling extensively and broadening my perspective. I also received the Flinn Scholarship, a prestigious full-ride award given to 20 of the best and brightest students in Arizona out of a pool of nearly 600.My tutoring style is 100% student-first. I want to make sure we're operating exactly at the level and pace where the student feels comfortable, and using educational techniques that work for this student in particular. I want my relationship with my students to feel like a friendship, and ideally, I want us both to have some fun.I'm a huge arts fanatic, particularly for music; ask me about my favorite albums of last year and I could probably give you a top 200. I've also been a guitarist and lyricist in several rock bands, and I'm currently working on putting together a hip hop album. I love watching movies, backpacking, reading, and conversing.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Arizona State University. I have tutored friends and family in mathematics and physical sciences. Additional, I have given interactive demonstrations to elementary students focused on the importance of building strong math and science skills. I also conducted study groups with classmates throughout my undergraduate studies. My hope is to spark the passion and appreciation for math and science in all those whom I tutor. Finding the relationship between the fundamental principles and real life applications is how I help to build a strong understanding of key concepts and a desire to learn more. These ideas continue into my hobbies and interests: I have a strong desire to learn more whether that involves reading a scientific publication or through my own research. I also enjoy the challenge of golf and chess, woodworking, and watching my three year old twin boys explore and learn.

I'd love to work with you :) I majored in Japanese at Arizona State University, studied abroad at Waseda University, taught English as an ALT on the JET Program in Aomori, and hitchhiked and WWOOFed across northern Japan in 2017. I've worked for 2 Japanese companies in the semiconductor industry, so we're talking up on a ladder in a sterile "cleanroom", installing equipment while interpreting between English and Japanese for my coworkers! In terms of using Japanese, you name it, I've probably done it. If you want to work with someone who's been hands on, I'm ready to get started - let's do it! :) orz

I am a student at the Barrett Honors College, a part of Arizona State University. I expect to earn my Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a focus on physics in December 2022. While my degree has had a heavy focus on physical sciences, I have also completed a variety of coursework in social and life sciences to prepare for my post-graduation plans. After graduation, I hope to earn either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Entry to Nursing Practice and begin work as a pediatric nurse. I decided to change my path from mathematics and physics to nursing because I perform best and feel happiest when I am working with others, which is why I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a tutor. I first realized my passion for people-centered work in high school when I volunteered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help educate financial donors and newly diagnosed families on the science of type 1 diabetes. My passion grew throughout my time in college, during which I joined a division of a Rotary club, which matches people of all ages with service projects within their local community, became a teaching assistant for a Socratic-seminar discussion and writing course for freshmen in Barrett Honors College, and worked as a student researcher in a physics lab, where I had to collaborate with my colleagues to address research problems and clearly present my specific field of work to others who were less well versed in the topic. My tutoring style is based on my own educational experience. I draw on tips and tricks that teachers and professors of mine have used which really helped difficult concepts to "click" for me. Most of these techniques associate silly stories or acronyms with concepts, as psychological studies have shown that people are more likely to remember a concept if it is tied to something unusual and memorable. That being said, I believe that every student has their own unique learning style, and so I am always happy to adjust my tutoring style to the needs of a student. Otherwise, I hold tutoring sessions by reviewing a concept and tying it into helpful learning devices, working through practice problems with a student while answering any questions they may have, and then summarizing what was done, answering final questions, and constructing a goals list at the end of a session. I mix homework and test-style problems with fun games like Jeopardy and Kahoot to keep students engaged while preparing them for what they will see in class.I look forward to working with you and helping you to succeed and achieve your full potential as the intelligent and capable learner that you are!

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have firsthand experience at ASU, giving them deep familiarity with the university's curriculum, teaching style, and academic expectations. These tutors understand the specific challenges ASU students face and can provide guidance based on their own success navigating the same coursework and campus culture.

ASU tutors bring expertise across a wide range of subjects, from engineering and computer science to business, liberal arts, and sciences. Because they've completed rigorous coursework at ASU, they're particularly strong in helping students master the foundational and advanced concepts that form the core of ASU's degree programs.

An ASU-trained tutor can share specific strategies that worked for them in ASU classes, explain how professors typically structure exams and assignments, and help you understand the 'why' behind concepts rather than just the 'how.' This insider perspective accelerates your learning and builds confidence in your ability to succeed in your courses.

Yes. When you connect with Varsity Tutors, you can specify your major and the courses you need help with, and we'll match you with a tutor who has relevant experience at ASU. Whether you're in engineering, business, education, or another program, finding a tutor with your background makes learning more targeted and effective.

Your first session is an opportunity for you and your tutor to get to know each other and identify your specific needs—whether that's exam prep, understanding difficult concepts, or improving your grade in a particular course. Your tutor will assess your current level and create a personalized plan to help you reach your goals.

Many ASU-trained tutors can share insights about campus resources, study habits that work at ASU, and how to balance coursework with other responsibilities. While their primary role is academic support, their lived experience at ASU gives them valuable perspective on student success beyond the classroom.

Varsity Tutors works with tutors who offer flexible scheduling to fit your busy student life. Whether you need help before midterms, during finals week, or on an ongoing basis throughout the semester, you can find a tutor whose availability matches your needs.

Simply let Varsity Tutors know you're looking for personalized instruction and mention your interest in connecting with a tutor who attended ASU. We'll match you with an experienced tutor who fits your needs, and you can begin your first session as soon as works for your schedule.
