Hi, my name is Ishan and I am currently a second year medical student at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Tutoring is something I have always been involved with. Throughout high-school, I tutored students in Algebra and Calculus. In college, I had an opportunity to work with younger students while also tutoring in organic chemistry. I love being able to help students succeed in all aspects. I am also adaptable to many different learning styles.

Raised in Columbus, Ohio, studied Engineering at Northwestern in Chicago and now in the Motor City looking to help students reach their full potential in everyone's favorite subject - math! From Middle School math up through Trigonometry, I'll work to find your best learning style and help you get where you need to be. Ever since my freshman year in high school, I would help my friends with their math homework and science problems. My talent for passing on knowledge was professionally realized when I began working as a tutor at my high school, and later at the University of Michigan. As a junior at UM, I have now been tutoring students in a wide variety of areas such as ACT/SAT preparation, PSAT preparation, and in their academic courses as well. I am in my third year of completing my Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, and as a result have developed a heavy focus in mathematics and science courses. "No Child has an Expiration Date!" I am a proud graduate of Central Michigan University and the University of Detroit Mercy. I received my Masters of Arts degree in Teaching Elementary Mathematics over 20 years ago. Since graduation, I was nominated, "Michigan Teacher of the Year." I was selected out of many applicants, as one of our district's Master Math Teachers. I am most passionate about instilling the love of Math in my students. One way this love of Math has been displayed is when I provided the 1st District-Wide Math Bee template to the former Math Director. My Math Bee template set the stage for our District's annual Math Bees(over 8 years ago.) I believe every student can excel in Math, regardless of their learning style and their zip code. I have had remarkable success with my students over the years (My students' test scores have afforded me the opportunity to earn the honorable title, "Master Math" teacher.) I am most proud of the title, "Mom." I have three children.One of my children was diagnosed with a learning disability. It brought me so much joy to create songs and rhymes to help him learn Math in his own classroom. My special needs son has since graduated(C/O 2019.) My daughter received a scholarship to Michigan State(C/O 2020.) My youngest son is currently in high school. In my spare time, I enjoy learning new Math techniques, bike riding and watching basketball.

I believe that community care is one of the foundations for growth. Having been supported by my family and friends throughout my life, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am without their support. Through them, I was taught to always give when I have the means and I believe that is seen through my work as an educator.I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of Creative Writing and Film Studies. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools to study Art Therapy and become a professional Youth Art Therapist as I believe that early intervention and an increased focus on mental health and wellness, can lead to healthier, more communicative, emotionally mature individuals.As an educator, I believe that knowledge of a subject isn't solely what's important. Rather than simply fostering "knowing" in my students, I intend to focus on giving students the tools and skills needed to strengthen their understanding of a subject. By working with a growth mindset, I can meet students where they are and work with them to help raise their understanding. I believe that highlighting student strengths, understanding their learning style, and making the material more relatable helps to foster a better understanding of the subject matter at hand.

At the time I am a Spanish teacher, but a part of me misses working with numbers.In the past, I have worked with K - 8th students for various academic subjects. My Spanish experience is K - 12th. I am fluent in Spanish and practice it everyday with friends and family.

I am a lifelong learner, eldest brother, musician, artist, former camp counselor and working tutor. Born and raised in New York City, I studied at Pomona College in Los Angeles and spent a semester in Madrid, worked for a few years in Miami at a Latin American technology company and have recently moved to the Detroit area to pursue music more seriously.My education has always reflected my diverse and strong interest across disciplines. My liberal arts undergraduate education focused rigorously on the humanities delving deeply into critical thinking and writing. Through this I have always maintained a logical methodical style of thinking required to understand and guide through math and science.Working as a tutor allows me to continue to share my passion for learning. I still vividly remember the experience of studying for standardized tests, applying to college or simply working through weekly problem sets.
