My personal philosophy on teaching and learning is founded around my cumulative experiences as a student, instructor, mentor and researcher. Having been an active participant from both sides of the classroom, in university settings, I know that successful learning is synonymous with long term retention, which in-turn facilitates the ability to apply knowledge and think laterally when the opportune moment presents itself in the real-world. To truly learn is to discover knowledge through experience and lots of practice which invokes the confidence to overcome challenges while simultaneously lifting inhibitions in regard to tackling new problems. To facilitate such an experience within a classroom environment is especially possible in subjects like mathematics and the physical sciences, by facilitating a working knowledge of contemporary issues in the science through articulation of real-world examples and providing opportunity for hands-on problem solving through exercises. Scientists, leaders and instructors effectively teach when they simultaneously impart information and nurture an environment that offers students the opportunity to discover a new subject while maintaining a channel for continuous closed-loop feedback, to ensure that the pace of subject-matter delivery and the student-specific rate of retention are in step. My teaching style is a literal embodiment of the above statements.

Teaching others is one of my greatest passions. I find that sharing knowledge with others and helping them to become passionate about learning is one of the most rewarding activities I can engage in. I believe knowledge is among the highest virtues of mankind, and even higher is our ability to assist one another in such endeavors.

Hi! My name is Caroline and I currently work as a Physics and Earth Science teacher at a high school in Brooklyn. I love math and science and love working with kids so teaching and tutoring is really the culmination of my passions :) In my spare time I like to cook, go for bike rides, rock climb, knit, and go for runs in the park. I believe that learning should be fun so I always try to let my personality shine through when working with kids so that they feel comfortable and that they can be themselves while they are learning.

I have just arrived home from living in New Zealand for 15 months. It was an amazing experience and I loved traveling and exploring on the weekends along with meeting many people from different cultures. I graduated from Florida State University in 2014 with my bachelors degree in Meteorology and a minor in mathematics. While I was studying at FSU, I spent many hours studying for my mathematics classes and working on practice problems just for fun! My parents even bought me a giant white board so I used to sit on the floor, using my white board constantly. I also loved helping my friends with their math questions and teaching them shortcuts and skills in order to achieve an excellent grade in their classes. As a senior in college, I decided to take two extra mathematics classes which included Linear Algebra and Partial Differential equations. I loved taking those classes because it was just for fun and there was no pressure!I went to New Zealand in June 2014 to be an Au Pair for an amazing family. I was responsible for an eight year old girl and a ten year old boy. The little girl really struggled to concentrate on just doing her homework and so we made sure she did her spelling and math in a quiet environment and then she excelled. I learned a plethora of patience from the boy though because he struggled with keeping up with his work and he would fight me if he was required to do his homework. I taught him quickly though that if he worked hard, he could finish earlier and have free time. It was such a great learning experience for myself.I am very outgoing and am willing to work on figuring out the best way for each individual to learn. I know that everyone has a different style of learning and not everyone will react to the same lessons.I am extremely eager to help you succeed :)

Learning is one of the most rewarding, useful, and fun things that a person can do. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students complete assigned tasks and get good grades, but also to understand why the material is important and how it can help them in life. If I can help a student to be motivated to learn, aspire to fulfill meaningful goals, and give them the tools they need to reach those goals, then I will consider the time that I have spent with them as a success.I graduated from University at Buffalo with a B.A. in Math and Economics and an M.S. in Economics with an advanced certificate in Finance. I now work at M&T Bank as a Credit Analyst. I aspire to start my own business next year.I try to put effort into improving at everything that I do because I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well. Some of my life achievements include, being an all county 1st singles player on my high school tennis team, improving my max bench press by 35lbs in 3 months, running a marathon, climbing a mountain, clearing a 40 feet long ski jump, ranking in the top 10 players in upstate NY in a video game, getting a job in my field immediately after college, being chosen to lead a project at work even though I am one of the newest people there, completing 3 college degrees in 5 years with a high GPA, working at least part time every year since I was in 10th grade, and ranking 1st every week in location accuracy and pulls per week as a backroom team member at Target. I am currently independently learning coding through codecademy.com and freecodecamp.com and am in the process of creating my own website. These things all resulted from the common theme of focused effort and a clear mindset for improvement. Improvement happens when you try to do something, fail, figure out what you're doing wrong, and try to fix it. Everyone can improve at everything if they stay focused, adapt their improvement methods, and try again. It's never too late. Some things take more time than others, but everything is achievable. If you have an idea of what you want to accomplish in the future, start now and you'll be much more likely to get to where you want to be.

I'm a math department tutor at Benedictine College where I am studying math. I love helping students get to the point where a concept clicks and it finally makes sense! I only began loving math half-way through high school, so I also understand the deep dislike of math which many students have, but I don't want to leave them there; I want them to see the beauty of the universality and order of math.

I am a graduate of The University of Delaware. I received my Honors Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Teacher Education with a concentration in Middle School Mathematics. Currently, I am working towards a Master of Education Degree in Leadership, Design and Technology from Pennsylvania State University. Since graduation, I have worked in a variety of mathematics teaching positions including as a Math Intervention Assistant Teacher, a High School Mathematics Teacher, and a Middle School Mathematics Teacher. I am a firm proponent of technology integrated, student-centered education, believing it to be necessary to stay up with 21st-century skills. I meet students where they are currently at, not where they necessarily ought to be through technology applications. In my spare time, I enjoy working on my house, reading, and spending time with family including my golden retriever, Callie.

I have finished my Secondary Education Mathematics Major at Northeastern Illinois University. Student teaching with students from 8th-10th grade and tutoring a diverse groups of students in terms of age and culture at my university, I have built strong teaching skills that I can adapt based on a student's personal needs. I have also tutored and built strong math skills at my university for the following subjects: Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics. I enjoy tutoring because it is easier to teach one person at a time then to try to cover material to a large group of students. This also gives students I tutor the opportunity to stop me when the math content becomes confusing. I feel that the best way to teach a tough section in a specific math subject is to start with an example and work each part out step by step with the student, while asking guiding questions to have the student work during the learning process. New concepts in math require a lot of background math skills. If a student does not remember those skills from the past, tutoring is a great way to refresh the student's memory and bring them back on the right track. Lastly, tutoring is enjoyable because I get to make a tough subject like math easier for students to comprehend. If I do my job as a tutor to make a student understand math content, I am serving my community and building a smarter and happier environment around me.
