I am a recent graduate of Columbia University currently working as a freelance writer and tutor while also maintaining a part-time job as a foreign sub-editor at "The Viet Nam News" as a Princeton in Asia fellow.I have benefited from the privilege of good teachers throughout my life, and I believe that the best way to account for that privilege is to do my best to be a good teacher to others.

I have always loved teaching, and I started working as a tutor in Math and Science in high school. I now teach a wide variety of subjects from Physics to Essay Writing to Math at every level, as well as standardized testing for SAT and GRE. I love tutoring because it combines two of my favorite activities: tackling complex ideas and engaging with people. It is so special to watch a student grasp a new concept that seemed entirely opaque only a few minutes earlier.I majored in theater and astrophysics at Columbia University and I am now a playwriting MFA at NYU, one of the best programs in the country (the story of how I transitioned from physics to theater is pretty funny and I???m happy to share it). While my intensive study of advanced Math and Physics helps me tutor those subjects, I find my theater skills are just as valuable to effective teaching. As a playwright, I have learned to explain ideas efficiently, inspire excitement, and connect with an audience. Using these techniques, I hope to make my students not only better at individual subjects, but also help them fall in love with the beauty of new ideas.

Born into a family of editors, a love of etymology and grammar was instilled (okay, hammered) into my mind at an early age. Any questions brought up at the dinner table led directly to a reference book. Wondering where your meal came from? Pick up the Oxford Companion to Food. Any question about word origins? Grab your magnifying glass, and pour over the dictionary. This type of curiosity has followed me into adulthood. I'm a full-blown Wikipedian.My rsum goes beyond tutoring. From grant proposals to album reviews, I've been published across disciplines. I've spent two years writing and editing for literary magazines. I've hosted a radio show focusing on philosophy and hip-hop. I've studied in Richmond, Pittsburgh, Salamanca, and Valparaiso.I believe tutoring happens on a case-by-case basis. I personalize each lesson, so whether your child learns through close-reading and marginalia, or through pneumonic devices and word games, we will find a way to a lesson that sticks. I'm an adjunct English professor at Fordham University, and I have my MFA in Young Adult Literature from The New School. I love helping students develop their own writing voice and teaching them the kind of writing skills that can help them on the SATs and beyond. I have experience working with middle, high school and college students on SAT prep, college writing and creative writing. When I'm not teaching, I'm a young adult writer and I enjoy taking dance classes, doing improv and sketch comedy and running in 5K races

As a double-degree recipient from Columbia University, with a B.A. in political science and a M.S. in journalism, I am best at helping my students take their academics to the next level in reading, writing, and essay composition. One of the biggest hurdles in writing is getting past writer's block and crafting a unique composition; I help students through that by breaking down the process into easy, digestible steps. Once the anxiety and trepidation is gone, writing becomes fun.
