I am an undergraduate at Marquette University. I am working toward my BS in Biomechanical Engineering with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. While at Marquette, I have had the pleasure of tutoring students preparing for an academic olympics, as well as students in an after school program. I primarily tutor students who require help with mathematics. As engineering student, I have developed a love and understanding for math that I hope to share with my students. I am a big supporter of an example-based teaching style, because I believe this is one of the best ways to foster learning. I am a very active individual with a love for sports; In my spare time, I enjoy activities such as surfing, skateboarding, soccer, basketball, and hockey.

I am a graduate of The University of Northern Iowa. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on European History. Since graduation I have had the opportunity to work in the Museum Field, focusing on education and programming. I've completed several research projects that were turned into published work on World War II and the Holocaust. I've also had the pleasure of tutoring off and on with students off all ages. While I tutor on a broad range of subjects I am most passionate about History and English. In my experience helping students struggling to understand a subject or find enjoyment in the subject is the most rewarding outcome. I believe education and learning is the most important thing in a person's life and the tools you learn in school is what helps shape the person you become. Each person has a different learning style, and I try to help cultivate that while we work on the student's educational needs. I moved here from Kansas City (grew up in Central KS) to attend school though I come from a family of Packers fans. My graduate research is very multi-disciplinary covering content in anthropology, biology, psychology, neuroscience, and some public health as well. As an undergraduate, I did a double major in Anthropology and Theatre & Film then went back to school to do pre-medicine and molecular biosciences. Prior to my emergence as a teacher, I was a phlebotomist for several years and worked in a research laboratory for the University of Kansas Medical Center. Outside of working as a teaching assistant and my own classes, I function as the president of the Anthropology Student Union, take dance classes, watch Mad Men and Game of Thrones, and try to keep up with my favorites sports teams.I enjoy tutoring because I get the opportunity to do more as a mentor. As a tutor, I want to help the student learn new concepts while also teaching them study skills that are usually not taught in a classroom but only get better with practice. My teaching philosophy is to encourage the student to be confident with the material versus striving for perfect memorization. Different individuals learn some things better than others and it is about finding a way to make that information important or real based on your personal memory recall. For example, do not ever make me change a tire... Though I have seen it done multiple times, I never had to do it myself so I never learned!

I recently graduated from Berklee College of Music with my Master of Music in Contemporary Performance with a concentration in production. Before that, I attended Arizona State University and received my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with an emphasis in French horn performance. I have always loved music and sharing my knowledge with others, and my educational experiences, along with other touring performance and civic engagement organizations, have allowed these two passions to intersect. If I had to put a title on my work, I would list a number of things - performer, composer, arranger, orchestrator, producer, educator. However, I love to condense these ideas into one word - artist. My philosophy is to use my skills and my network to equip my students with the tools they need to succeed at their specific goals. When I'm not making music, I love reading and getting outside to provide a sense of balance in my life and seek new sparks of inspiration.

I believe that giving every student access to a quality education is the greatest act of social justice in our times. Thus, you will never find anyone who is willing to work harder to ensure the success of ALL students.I believe that this belief shines through in my track record. After graduating magna cum laude from Marquette University, I have been involved in public education for 14 years. For 13 of those years, I was a high-school English teacher, and I strove to teach a wide variety of classes (from AP to remedial and everything in between) in schools with a wide variety of student demographics (from very affluent suburbs to the inner city of Milwaukee.) As a result, I really have worked with--and had success with--all types of students. I am also comfortable with all age levels. This past school year, I became a school counselor at an elementary school. It was different experience, but I loved every minute of it!I have also had a wide variety of experiences tutoring. I have volunteered in many inner-city homework help programs. I have also worked for tutoring companies, and of course, I have done my own private tutoring for many years. Again, all of this experience has allowed me to work one-on-one or in small groups with a wide variety of students.In every setting, I have ever worked, students and parents have always said that they felt I was an excellent educator. I don't say that to be arrogant because I am humbled by their kind words. However, since education is as important as I said above, I take these words as the greatest compliments I could ever receive. I think the reason that I have been able to work so well with so many different students is because I am able to quickly forge relationships based on mutual respect. I treat students as people first, something we all too often forget. I am not afraid to show them my personality and make learning fun. Once students trust, you can push them, and they will rise to the challenge because they know that you are there to catch them if they fall. My students know I am there for them. This can often reveal where students need the most practice, which is often in prerequisite maths. I believe that a strong foundation in Algebra is vital to true understanding of codependent branches like Geometry, Trigonometry, and finally Calculus. I also find that students learn best when they're involved and gain the most confidence when they're given opportunities to think critically.I'm currently attending the University of Wisconsin: Milwaukee for Computer Science and have a history in the culinary arts.In my free time I enjoy making music, exercise, reading, cooking, creating computer games, and playing with my two cats and bearded dragon.
