I am currently a Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy major and I will earn my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in one year. I have been working with students from all ages: 9-25 years old. I enjoy tutoring mainly because of my own love for learning, which makes me very passionate in teaching. With tutoring, I am also given the opportunity to help children achieve their best and inspire them on a personal and academic level. With my background, I have been exposed to many different learning styles and believe in adapting my teaching style to whichever fits the student best. I personally understand the challenges that come with learning a new subject and the material that comes with it. Because of this very reason, I try my best to take the time to connect meaningfully with each student, so that I am able to help them to the best of my abilities. I believe that all students are able to do well in their courses, as long as they are given the proper resources and patience as a teacher, which I believe that I can provide. My favorite subjects to tutor are any sort of math and science courses. I'm very excited to help my students succeed and achieve their academic goals!

I am a grad student at Washington University in St. Louis getting my doctorate in Occupational Therapy. I have experience tutoring and teaching in several subjects. As a graduate student, I assisted instructors teaching research and high-level integrated topics including neuroscience, kinesiology, biomechanics, psychology and mental health, physiology, anatomy, critical reasoning. I have my BS in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I participated in research as well as tutored and led study groups for physiology students. My approach to teaching is to help students make connections between what they already know and to understand new material. I feel that learning that is applicable to one's life helps elicit motivation and enjoyment. I really enjoy helping people feel more confident and empowered in their learning.

Having a diverse background of growing up in Egypt, attending undergraduate and graduate school in the US and medical school in the West Indies, I have have been fortunate to interact and tutor students throughout every phase of my education. Tutoring students with different cultural and academic backgrounds has taught me to implement an individualistic approach of teaching This method would help enable each of them to learn and understand the concepts rather than just memorize. While attending undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Missouri, I worked as a TA in a Medical Microbiology and immunology lab, this experience has exposed me to teach a group rather than individuals at once. It lead me to implement methods of active learning to ensure that the content presented was understood by everyone. While also working as a tutor in the athletic department, I would be assigned to student athletes who were performing poorly in their courses due to the lack of interest in studying and education, while allocating most of their time to training for their respective sport. For the first time it has taught me that being able to built trust, mentor, and support a student can have a major impact on their academic performance. That in order to gain a students respect and attention, you have to give them the same in return.During the past several years, I have also worked in healthcare and public health. As a firm believer of disease prevention, this has lead me to focus vastly on educating patients on understanding their illnesses and methods that would improve their prognosis. Also, during my public health training I would attend clinics in areas that are endemic for certain conditions (Hepatitis C, HIV etc) and present to the locals about the etiologies and pathologies of these conditions, and how they could prevent or decrease their risk of exposure. Each of these experiences has been a crucial component of the my ideologies on how to effectively teach, mentor, and motivate people about learning by understanding. I believe that being a teacher is more than just explaining content, but being able to teach using an individualistic approach, while building trust with all those you work with, whether a student, patient, or members of a community.

I am a recent 2022 graduate from UGA where I obtained a masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (GPA: 3.8). I received my bachelors degree in biology with a double minor in mathematics and chemistry from Shorter University (GPA: 4.0).While obtaining my masters degree, I was given the opportunity to be a graduate student teacher for one section of elementary biostatistics (one MWF class per semester). I was the student instructor on record for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters. I have created lessons, practice PowerPoints, and tests for elementary biostatistics. In both my academic and professional life, I have been consistently praised as diligent and focused by my professors and peers. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. I am a graduate of the University of Adelaide in South Australia. I received my Ph.D. and Bachelors of Science (Honors) in the field of Microbiology. I have extensive teaching experience being an Adjunct Professor at the City College of Chicago, Stratford University, and Marymount University teaching the Microbiology, General Biology, and General Science courses. I have taught many minority, multicultural, and mature age students studying to enter pre-nursing, medical assistant, and pharmacology courses. I have also been a Volunteer Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. I have attended numerous Grand Rounds and Case Studies presented by Physicians at the Department of Infectious Diseases at UIC and the NIH. I want to provide students with the opportunity to utilize my knowledge and experience in microbiology and the biological sciences. I tutor the subjects of Microbiology, Genetics, and General Biology. My favorite subject to tutor is Microbiology as I have 25 years experience as a research scientist studying the genetics and molecular mechanisms of microbial pathogens at Medical Research Institutions and Universities around the world. I have lived in three countries, have numerous friends from different cultures, and have traveled extensively throughout Europe and Scandinavia.I believe in providing students with a comfortable environment where they have the confidence to ask questions and not be afraid to display their ignorance. This is especially true if they believe the question is too trivial. I demonstrate my own enthusiasm for the subject and explain why I feel it should be so interesting and important to everyone in society. I do this by regaling personal experiences in the field, real-life current situations involving biologically, topical events, and stories I know of scientific researchers who made various discoveries. I also make the subject more human by openly discussing the nuances of newsworthy topical events and real-life situations. I describe how topics in the course apply to their own lives, bodies, and health. As often as possible I use real life and news worthy events to explain the science behind the social discussion. This includes stories related to scientific research, specific infectious diseases, and patient case studies. Putting flesh onto the bones of the course material provides a student with something that is concrete and familiar to them. I am a strong believer in the use of videos, photos, websites, and 3D models to provide texture to some of the more difficult concepts of the course.

I firmly believe that learning should be enjoyable for students. At times, it will be challenging and boring, but the overall process ought to be somewhat exciting and satisfying. Not all educators have the ability to create an enjoyable learning environment this could be due to large class sizes, limited class time, lack of resources, or inadequate training. As a tutor, I use the unique opportunities of one-on-one and small group sessions to form personal connections with students, in an effort to discover what sort of experience they need to enjoy learning the material. I think that students need to be comfortable in their learning environment so they can make mistakes and ask for help, when necessary. I tutor primarily biology and chemistry at the high school and undergraduate levels, as well as admissions exams, such as the ACT, the GRE, and the MCAT. My true passion is at the interface of biology and chemistry in the areas of biochemistry and molecular biology. I find it fascinating to learn about how fundamental concepts of chemistry allow biological organisms to function effectively. During my undergraduate career, I worked as a teaching assistant in a lower-level animal anatomy and physiology course and in an upper-level biochemistry course. Furthermore, I have mentored underclassmen by helping them through courses that I took in previous years. I have earned a B.S. in Molecular Biology from Messiah College and I am working towards a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Drexel University. When I am not lost in the world of academia, I enjoy spending time in nature, reading science-fiction books, and cooking plant-based foods.
