I graduated from Northwestern University with bachelors and masters degrees in journalism. After graduation, I joined Teach For America, the national teacher corps, planning to spend two years teaching. More than 20 years later, I am still at it! I have taught English literature and composition to students from ages 12-18 at public and private schools in Houston, Colorado and Montana. For the past decade, I also have served as a college counselor, guiding students through the entire college admissions process. I love stories: reading them and helping my students find and tell their own stories. I enjoy watching my students gain confidence in their thinking and writing abilities as we build skills and address the things that hold them back. I am an avid reader and writer too, so I practice what I teach. When I am not teaching I enjoy being with my family and our St. Bernard puppy, exercising and enjoying the outdoors.
