What is your teaching philosophy?
"Helping someone is to give that person a fish to eat for the day. Service is teaching that man to fish so that he/she can eat for a lifetime." In teaching, my goal is to enable my students so that they get to a point where they can help themselves succeed in the face of any challenge.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I will get to know my student, outline and define their goals, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and outline a plan and schedule to achieve those goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by enabling them with the proper skills and tools to tackle any challenge. The best way to help students is to challenge them through questioning and assessing their knowledge. I find this method to be much more effective than lecturing or simple "repeat after me" lessons.
