I am a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and was Phi Beta Kappa. I also was pre-med for three years before I decided to go to law school--a decision I do not regret. Since graduation, I practiced corporate law for 20 years (which I still do part-time) before transitioning to college and secondary teaching. At the college level I have taught English Composition, Business Law, Writing and Corporate Communications, Philosophy, Economics, Paralegal, and Business and Government. Since becoming certified in 6-12 math I have taught several years at the middle-school level. I have been on my local School Board for 3 terms (12 years) and am about to enter my 4th. I enjoy creative writing and am still working on novels and short stories. Though none of them have yet been published (although am in discussions with a publisher now), I have entered some of them in several competitions including National Public Radio's Three Minute Fiction competitions. In addition to my serving as a School Board member, I have run for other elective offices and have won primaries and strong showings in other races, but I have not won other elective office. However, public service has been and will continue to be a passion of mine. I think I have made a contribution to make to help solve the problems our communities have. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, Literature, and Social Studies. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my teaching I have always gravitated towards the students who need the most help, but I also like to tutor the more advanced students. Both are challenging in different ways, and after all, we are all smart if encouraged to be, often in different ways. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life; I used to run marathons and do triathlons, but now concentrate on yoga, swimming, and ballroom dancing. I also do volunteering with animal rescue organizations as well as my own rescue animals: many in heaven, Scoobie the 10 year old small lab mix I just adopted this year, and the two cats who love me but only tolerate each other (Little Girl, and Furby the indoor/outdoor little thug). In reality, they rescued me as much as I rescued them.
