In this session, I introduced the student to radicals as an operation. We discussed how radicals relate to exponents in a similar way to how division relates to multiplication. She practiced solving radicals that matched the degree of their radicands. I then introduced her to how to multiply and divide radicals. She also practiced solving problems with these concepts.

Tutoring review by Kevin in Harrisburg, TX
We continued working on some complex word problem inequalities. The student was struggling with understanding what aspects of the word problem are necessary for the question. The student also needed to be taught volume and 3 dimensional shapes since the problems called for it. I taught him about volume and how three dimensional structures should be analyzed. I also encouraged him to look at problems in a step by step way. I did encourage him to do all future homework without a calculator to develop faster math skills.

The student completed the final practice test from her math workbook and thoroughly went over her homework during this session. She is continuing to verbalize math concepts better and is more ready to ask questions when arriving at a tricky problem. Now that her state testing is finished, we're going to alternate between doing a variety of math and reading exercises to supplement her current school work.
