I have tutored formally since 7th grade, when I organized and ran a peer tutoring organization at my school. As a result of this two-year project, I was named a 2006 Distinguished Finalist for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. I attended an early college high school program (the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science) and volunteered in a local middle school, where I worked with struggling students one-on-one. I then transferred to Texas A&M University, where I earned a B.S. in Psychology (with a minor in Neuroscience) in 2013. During college, I tutored several Psychology and Neuroscience courses. After graduating from Texas A&M, I began a graduate program in Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Austin. While in this program, I volunteered in several reverse-inclusion courses for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which renewed my interest both in teaching and in working with individuals with special needs.I am excited to work with all students, particularly those with special needs (including G/T). I am incredibly passionate about education and helping others when possible. I graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2014 with a BS in Biomedical Sciences and a BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. I tutor Spanish and Study Skills and Organization. My previous tutoring experience comes from helping classmates and friends throughout my schooling career. Living in Guadalajara, Mexico until I was seven years old I grew up bilingual. I think the most important thing to focus on when tutoring is the student's learning method. If the information being presented is in a method that is not conducive, it can prohibit the student from excelling to the best of their ability. By identifying the best teaching method for the individual student, the information will be much easier to portray and understand. I also currently work as a zoo keeper at a privately owned zoo in Spring, TX and am working towards getting into veterinary school to work with exotic animals. I will be completing my eighth year as an educator. The reason I began teaching is because I wanted to leave an impact on the students I interacted with. It is a special feeling to see your students grow and become outstanding citizens. The lessons we teach have more of an impact then just their education. During my tenure as the CTL, our team was able to meet the requirements mandated by the State of Texas' School Rating System for Mathematics. To ensure our scholars were receiving the quality education and our campus was meeting our Department goals. Additionally, I have served as the UIL Coordinator and Math Event Coach for over four years. Our Team has qualified to compete at the State Level Tournament several years. I am about to graduate from Texas A&M University with Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering and certification for Leadership in Business and Engineering. During my time in school, I learned to appreciate the importance of a "good teacher". Growing up, I started in ESL, because I had learned Spanish before English, and I hated going to school. However, that all changed when I met teachers and professors that made learning EASY and FUN. They taught me the wonders of Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading. I studied civil engineering at Texas A&M University where I received my Bachelor of Science and Masters of Engineering. Before I left the university to work as a structural engineer in Houston, I tutored for the Texas A&M Athletics Department, helping their student athletes tackle their math and science classes. I find I enjoy teaching and have the ability to simplify problems down to their basic building blocks which can be easily taught and learned. Once those blocks are known, it becomes fairly simple to build them back up to form the overall solution to the problem. I hope to use these skills with my students now as well to help them with their school problems. Mathematics, as a discipline, is one of the most important human achievements andit can be very simple if explained very well. Therefore, my global teaching idea is toreveal main mathematical concepts in a deep way of understanding and to form a fundament that could not be forgotten in the future. I believe an outstanding teacher is not simply a content provider, but a mentor who motivates, inspires and counsels students.
