I am an medical student at UTMB Galveston. The last MCAT I took was in January 2018 so I am well versed with what the test entails and how to teach students to conquer this test. I like to engage with my students to make sure that they not only know the information but that they are able to master it.

Throughout my career in education I have had the opportunity to teach a wide range of education levels, from high school teacher to adult education program to college level courses, with classes comprised of face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. My main objective has always been to create a learner-centered environment that accommodates the different needs of the students, allow for mathematical skills to be developed, and encourage students to take ownership of their education.

Everyone learns differently and one of my top skills is detecting how each of my students learns. My other top skill is that I make learners feel comfortable, resulting in their ability to be honest with me about their learning: what's going well, what's not, and admitting their weaknesses (personal or academic) so that we can work on them. I get excited about helping students because I know that it's just a matter of unlocking their learning style and opening their eyes to the fact that they are smart and they can learn. And once they realize that, their whole self-perception changes and they begin to see how bright their futures are! I have worked with students of all ages (from kindergarten to retirement age) including English language learners, and I have taught every school subject kinder-8th grade as well as many high school core subjects. I am thrilled to say that in this age of standardized testing, I have a high success rate of students who pass their high-stakes end-of-year exams and those who are taking their Texas teacher certification exams. I earned my bachelor degree in Spanish/multicultural studies at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Brockport and continued on to earn a master degree in bilingual education. I earned another master degree in educational administration from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley so that I could have more opportunities in the education field, but because I find teaching so exciting, I preferred to continue teaching. I tutor all subjects kinder-8th grade, all levels of English/reading and social studies/history, all levels of English language for English language learners, Spanish beginning through advanced, and study/learning strategies. Of all the subjects I tutor, I truly enjoy math, reading and Spanish. Math and Spanish are like puzzles, and I love brain teasers. And reading, well it's so fun when you know how to interact with the text and have self-conversations as you read. I know, I'm a nerd! Outside of academia, I enjoy playing with my dogs (We have 7!) and taking care of my family. I spend a good amount of time doing small chores around our ranch and trying to keep the property looking nice. It's the best form of exercise and relaxation that I know. Plus, I usually find some sort of new bug; hence, my camera roll is full of bug pics. I am an experienced science educator with over a decade of teaching experience, having begun my career in 2013. My background includes teaching both middle school science and high school physics across a range of academic levels, including on-level, Pre-AP, Honors, and currently Dual Enrollment Physics in partnership with UT Austin. I am certified to teach Science for grades 412 in the state of Texas. I have over five years of teaching experience, and am certified as a Special Education Teacher. I am also certified as a Generalist EC-6, and English as a Second Language. I have experience in working with students with differing disabilities from visually impaired to ADHD to Down syndrome to autism. It has been a great honor for me to work with these kids and to find their unique learning potential and skill set. Helping elementary students is my passion, and I have extensive training in phonics, math, English, and science. I am so excited to work with you child, and I can't wait to see them soon!

I will be completing my eighth year as an educator. The reason I began teaching is because I wanted to leave an impact on the students I interacted with. It is a special feeling to see your students grow and become outstanding citizens. The lessons we teach have more of an impact then just their education. I believe every student has the capability of getting to and through college. I am seeking the opportunity to be able to impact a greater number of students. I have held several Teacher Leader positions at my campus. I have a record of results for each position that I have held. I am currently serving as a campus administrator. I work closely with our Lead Team, Teachers, Students and Parents to make sure that we are communicating effectively. Together, we make sure that we are providing an environment that our scholars feel safe, happy and are present. I have also served as a former Content Team Leader for Mathematics. During my tenure as the CTL, our team was able to meet the requirements mandated by the State of Texas' School Rating System for Mathematics. To ensure our scholars were receiving the quality education and our campus was meeting our Department goals. Additionally, I have served as the UIL Coordinator and Math Event Coach for over four years. Our Team has qualified to compete at the State Level Tournament several years. I also served as a member of our campus TSI Instructional Team. Through our efforts, we have achieved a strong Passing Completion Rate.

Hello! I am Sarah and I am very passionate about teaching and learning. I believe we are all lifelong learners and we all learn differently. I have been a certified teacher now for 5 years. 2 years ago I decided to further my own education and went back to school to get my masters in Early Childhood Education.

During my undergraduate degree, I studied Biology at Texas A&M and later at the University of Texas-Pan American to work for a forensics laboratory. However, the more elective English Classes I took, the more I realized Biology wasn't for me. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology but quickly pivoted to studying English Literature in a Master's Program at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley. Since that change in studies, I have found my passion in English Literature. I have worked as an AP English Literature instructor for six years and an OnRamps Dual Enrollment English Instructor for the past three years. I have been an AP reader for AP English Literature for the past three years, and I have moved from an 'acorn' to a full rater by reviewing all FRQ questions. I am eager to help students prepare for the AP Test and see student growth in their writing.

I'm a graduate of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where I completed my B.S. in Biology (your typical pre-med!). Currently, I'm a 3rd year medical student at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I have tutored various high school and college level subjects in the past, both formally as a private tutor and informally as a peer and friend, and will be tutoring 1st and 2nd year medical students this upcoming academic year. I am very adaptable and am able to meet students where they are at in terms of their current knowledge, their learning goals, and how they best understand and integrate new information.
