Hey y’all! I am a 25-year-old female with an interesting background. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Global Studies with a minor in Spanish back in 2012. After graduating I worked for AmeriCorps as a volunteer reading and literacy tutor in an elementary school for a year. I then moved to Houston where I obtained my Masters in Public Health with a major in health promotion and behavioral science from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. While working towards my masters, I worked as both a teaching assistant at the graduate level as well as a tutor for a private family in the area. As soon as I received my graduate degree, my husband and I moved back to California where his company needed him. While there I worked for a non-profit in my hometown, and his company recently relocated us back to Houston. So I am back, and now working towards getting a second bachelor’s degree in nursing. While my career is focused on health, I have a passion for education and literacy in particular. I am able to tutor the following subjects: Spanish I, Spanish II, English, Phonics, STAAR Grades 3-8, Elementary School Reading, Elementary School Writing, Middle School Reading, Middle School Writing and Middle School Reading Comprehension. My favorite subjects to tutor are phonics and phonemic awareness because they are the building blocks of literacy, but I also love to tutor anything related to reading and writing! When I tutor a student I really aim to gain an understanding of the student’s learning style during my first 1-2 sessions with them. This then allows me to tailor my teaching to their learning style, making it easier for them to grasp difficult concepts.Outside of school and work, I love to run, hike, kayak, paddleboard and ski. I was so lucky to grow up in the mountains of Southern California where I could do all of these activities whenever I wanted. Being back in Houston it is a bit more challenging to find places to do these things, but I make do.Thanks for considering me as your tutor!

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Texas. I am currently attending dental school in Houston. I was a tutor in the student athlete center for three years while attending college and have since tutored in the private sector for all ages. I specialize in the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and SAT test prep, but am comfortable with most high school, middle school, and elementary level courses. I can work with children of all ages and am very patient with children that have special needs.
I am currently a 4th year medical student in Texas. Prior to my medical education I earned a Bachelors in Journalism from UT Austin and a Masters in Public Health from UT Health Science Center in Houston. In between all the school, I have been tutoring in various subjects, mainly grade school math and English as well as the sciences in all levels. I worked as a manager at a non profit organization that had a focus on educational success for Houston's immigrant and refugee students. I am a strong supporter that education should be easily available for everyone. It is the cornerstone of success and a good teacher can make all the difference.
I am a graduate of Haverford College where I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Public Health and a concentration in biochemistry. During my time in college my first experience as an instructor was as a Teacher???s Assistant (TA) for the general chemistry lab course. I provided support in all lab experiments, held weekly TA sessions to provide support for assignments and graded assignments, lab notebooks and lab reports. From this experience I learned the value of empowering students and arming them with the tools to problem solve rather than merely giving them a correct answer. Additionally, during college I participated as a tutor in an after-school program working with elementary students. I find the best way to support students is through a balance of encouragement and challenge.I am currently pursuing a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and in my spare time I enjoy sporadically taking West African dance classes, trying new exercise classes and re-watching Bones.
I am a graduate of the University of Houston, receiving my Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences and minor in Biology. After graduation, I applied to dental school, and currently I am a third year dental student. During my time in undergrad and dental school, I have tutored on the side helping with middle school, high school and college students with math and science. I tutor a wide variety of subjects in math and science, especially Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Biology and Chemistry. Being a student myself and taking the ACT and DAT, I will be able to help students studying for those Standardized tests especially the portions of those exams that are STEM oriented. I hope to bring a positive outlook to education and learning and to help my students achieve the goals they are aspiring for. In my spare time, I enjoy collecting my plants, spending time outside, exercising, and drawing.
I have been a student for the past 25 years because I love to learn about the world. I enjoy learning about science and math and better yet I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. Thats why I pursued a bachelor's in mathematical biology with a minor in chemistry. Then I went on to get a master's in biology. During this time I have tutored friends and family and now I want to help tutor others as well.
With an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology, a Bachelor's in Business Administration (Computer Information Systems), and a Master's in Public Health, my career path has been varied and enriching. I initially sharpened my educational skills by developing customized training for military clients and providing Microsoft Applications(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access) training for corporate environments. Though I transitioned into direct healthcare for 5 years, I ultimately returned to my calling as an educator, specifically within Radiology Programs. My role as Radiography Program Director has provided me with a deep understanding of the entire curriculum. While proficient in all Radiography areas, I find particular satisfaction in teaching the following: Microsoft computer applications, all levels of Radiographic Procedures (Positioning), Patient Care, Introduction to Radiography, Radiographic Physics, and Pathology (for Radiography). In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, running, and travelling to different destinations. I'm committed to a teaching philosophy that recognizes and nurtures each student's unique strengths and learning styles, striving to provide diverse learning opportunities for individualized success.
I am extremely passionate about biology and life sciences. My passion began in elementary school, continued into the college, as well as graduate education. I firmly believe that nothing is difficult, you just haven't found the solution yet. Helping students reach their goals in academia is important to me because everyone should realize their full potential.
I believe that tutoring is different than classroom teaching. Tutoring is a unique opportunity for me to enter a partnership with students aimed at helping them to discover additional skills and confidence to promote their success. I believe that the successful tutor-student relationship requires an agreed-upon structure of mutual respect, and I have found that students are experts at identifying their own learning needs. The tutoring relationship is most important for nursing students because of the nature of nursing practice. Nursing students must be ready for the real world, which means that my work as a tutor is focused on content remediation and "test-prep" for class work and NCLEX success. My favorite part of tutoring is watching students achieve their goals! My work in the classroom and as a tutor is based on my experiences in graduate school. I completed my BSN and MSN at the University of Texas in Houston and then completed my PhD in Pennsylvania. Most recently, I became certified as a nurse educator by the National League for Nursing and completed a post-graduate certificate in online education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Want to learn something? I am third year medical resident in Family Medicine and was born and raised in a family of teachers and educators. I really enjoy learning and teaching and the process of deconstructing things down to their most digestible parts. I am a big advocate of making things fun and trying to bring the material to life. I have experience tutoring all ages, and in a wide range of disciplines. I look forward to helping you or you child meet your goals in whatever way I can!
Teaching and learning are lifelong passions of mine. I love to help people understand and be amazed by learning new things. People who were previously uninterested in a topic become suddenly fascinated when they learn something truly amazing. My philosophy has always been that anybody can learn anything if they are interested in the subject. Ability is only limited by interest. So, I love to spark that interest and build a core of understanding and then let the student build on that understanding. So, I always work at the student's pace. I have no problem going over a topic again if it is needed and I strongly encourage questions.
Teaching has been a huge part of me since I was young. I have worked with all types of students, including those with ADHD. I taught emergency preparedness at elementary schools and even got the fire department to give a tour of their fire truck for the kids! I continued to be a teaching assistant in biology during college to help with lectures and review concepts in smaller groups. In my career, I worked a lot in outreach and educating the public about different health conditions and steps they can take to empower themselves. I am excited to meet all the wonderful students to come.
