Hi! I am a former English teacher who has been working with Varsity Tutors for the last five years. I have an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and I am certified to teach middle school and ESL through the state of Texas. I take professional development courses regularly to maintain my credential and build new skills. I teach all areas of English instruction from phonics and emergent reading to high school literature and writing. I also specialize in test prep for the ISEE and various state exams. My favorite things about working with students through Varsity is working to meet individual student needs and working in a vast variety of content pertaining to English. I might start my morning working on systematic phonics instruction and emergent literacy, hop to elementary school math and reading comprehension, and end the morning studying Shakespeare. I genuinely enjoy working with my students through Varsity and creating unique lessons to meet student needs and interests!

I am a double graduate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I received my bachelor's degree in Biology with Spanish and Psychology minors. I also received my MBA with an emphasis on Healthcare administration. I previously tutored all grades at an elementary school primary focused on math and science. I also worked as a tutor at the same school for bilingual students with help in reading, writing, and comprehension. I am most passionate about tutoring Math, Spanish and English language but have a wide arrange of skills and knowledge for other subjects such as Science and Reading. I believe strongly in educating young minds for their future careers and aspirations. I enjoy playing soccer, running, reading and traveling which are all themes in my life that I enjoy speaking about.

I am a graduate of The University of Mary Hardin- Baylor in Belton, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach early childhood- 6th grade in the state of Texas. I am also certified in English Second Language and Gifted and Talented. I have taught in the classroom for 7 years- 3 years in pre-k, 3 years in 1st grade, and 1 year in 3rd grade ELAR/Social Studies. I have an extensive history working with children in various positions for 15+ years- Awanas leader, church small group leader, soccer coach, and daycare teacher. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about reading. I really enjoyed my last year teaching 3rd grade reading and helping students focus in on passing the reading STAAR test. I am a firm believe in the importance of reading and establishing fluency and comprehension young.

Even after 25 years of working with students in a wide variety of settings, the experience of seeing students have that “ah-ha!” moment excites me every time. Some of my favorite moments are:Helping young children who have struggled to read finally breaking the code.Working with older children for whom reading has been a major roadblock breaking through to find fluency.Seeing students understand the writing process for what it truly is - being able to get your unique and meaningful thoughts and feelings on a piece of paper - and doing it in a way that empowers them to be successful.Spending time with any student working through executive functioning challenges to become more efficient in their studies.Working with students in any subject area to help them see learning in new and meaningful ways.I love helping students reach their potential and learn to enjoy school!

My many experiences as a classroom, hybrid, and online graduate student have given me a unique perspective on what makes an excellent online instructor and what creates a disastrous experience for students. I have 13 years of experience as a classroom instructor and several years as an online tutor. I know the foundation of success for online nursing students is contingent on faculty being able to create a cordial and professional relationship with each student. I have extensive experience with APA formatting and writing style and available for editing APA papers including grammar and flow of the content. My teaching experiences include BSN, ADN, and LPN/LVN programs. These programs are regionally accredited and required instructors to use and create NCLEX structured questions. It is imperative for student success during and after completing school to critically evaluate and analyze nursing practice through difficult and alternative format questions. Unfortunately, NCLEX structured questions can be intimidating for students. As a former Assistant Dean for Academic Success and as an online tutor, I have extensive experience helping students understand and apply their knowledge to decrease test anxiety, decrease frustrations with studying, and increase their confidence. Nothing feels better than to hear from students who discovered their personal learning style and hearing about their successes.

Striving to be a perfect person will leave you disappointed. But, striving to be a perfect YOU, oh, that's self-love at its finniest. This is my mantra in teaching. Connecting with students is my purpose and passion. Going beyond the content and teaching them life lessons. I have been working in education for seven years and have enjoyed most of it. I believe in fun in education! If I am bored, I know the student is bored too. The more the student is engaged, the better the chances are the student will remember what they are being taught. Sometimes, they forget that they are learning. That is the best kind of teaching.Ok, about me. I graduated college at the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor. I am an avowed science nerd and Star Trek fanatic who loves helping students learn science! Outside of teaching, I love to read, grow all kinds of vegetables and fruits in my garden, and take care of my chickens, dogs, ducks, and goats. I love the outdoors, and enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking, and stargazing. I have been teaching science for over 20 years, from 5th grade to college students.
