With 7+ years experience in the Marines, I have learned unique life skills and understand the nature of difficult circumstances. I am currently attending college at the University of Texas at San Antonio for Civil Engineering.Learning has not always been a walk in the park for me. Coming out of the military I had to reteach myself a lot of the skills I learned in high school; because of this, I can better relate to students who are having difficulties with course subjects. By tackling subjects with a multi faceted approach, and proper guidance, I believe any student can achieve his or her academic goals.I am especially interested in mathematics and the physical sciences and love helping those who struggle in these areas. Since graduation, I used to teach English as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) overseas in a high school for three years. I currently work at Edmonds Community College, helping college and ESL students to register for the classes that they should take to get their Associate degree. While I teach English a broad, I am very passionate about the English language, American culture, and Literature. In my teaching experience-helping EFL students to acquire the English language skills, we have fun studying for the Grammar, Reading, and Writing portions of the class. I am an Industrial Engineering major, and was involved in the Wisconsin Synchronized Skating Team, Wisconsin Surma Bollywood fusion team, and SWE (The Society of Women Engineers). I'm really looking forward to helping students with math because too many students are afraid of it, and I'd like to change that.

After graduating from Arizona State University with a double major in English literature and Italian language, I relocated to Italy for a year to study Latin, Greek, and Italian at the University of Padua. The following year, I completed a Master's degree in Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto where I am currently a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Medieval Studies. My Ph.D. dissertation is about the political history of fourteenth-century Florence, Italy.At the University of Toronto, I am a teaching assistant for a number literature and history courses. Many of my students are in their first or second year of university, and I especially enjoy working with them as they make the transition from high school to university, learning on the one hand what it means to write university level research papers, and on the other, how to approach books and ideas that complicate what they know about history, literature, and life.In my spare time, I play the concert harp and enjoy listening to music, swimming, baking, and reading twentieth-century literature.
