Reflecting upon my past educational experiences, I have always appreciated instructors who have taken a personal and individualistic approach. Life is about more than immediate education, and an instructor who could encourage and motivate me to work hard on my own accord were the ones I remembered the most. As an academic tutor, I aim to not only provide excellent quality tutoring and improve scores, but also to connect with the student and improve other equally important qualities such as personal motivation and critical thinking skills.It is my personal belief that after a solid knowledge foundation, critical thinking and self motivation are the two qualities that set someone apart from a great student to an exceptional one. My teaching and tutoring background extends through all ages from very young children to college aged students. The majority of my experience derives from my dance background, first as a substitute dance teacher and then as a frequent choreographer in college. During my time at FIU, I was employed as a preceptor by the History Department which provided me with the opportunity to teach students proper research and writing skills. I found that many students had been poorly equipped in high school to deal with the rigors of college-level work, and I made it a point to teach my students the skills they would need to be successful.History and writing go hand-in-hand, and I consider myself an excellent tutor for American and European history, effective essay writing skills, and proper research and study skills. My tutoring gives high school students the skills they will need to succeed in college and college students the skills they will need to graduate. Hello, my name is Monika and I am an ecologist from Florida. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Earth and Environmental Resources Management and have my Bachelor's of Science in Zoology with a concentration in Environmental Biology. My forte is science, but I'm great with writing, reading, and math.As a quick background, I began tutoring during my undergrad as a math tutor for freshmen and sophomore students. I was then a teacher's assistant in graduate school for various environmental science courses for two years and absolutely loved the challenges and rewards of the job.

I am currently a senior at Saint Louis University and am studying to receive my Bachelors in Science in Biology and my minor in Public Health. During my college experience, I have been able to spend a lot of time volunteering and tutoring. I work as a tutor at the university for subjects in biology, chemistry and spanish. While I tutor in university level subjects, I also volunteer as an after school tutor for refugee students in STL, through Firm Foundations tutoring, so I work with younger students as well. I have always enjoyed tutoring since my high school years as I believe in the importance of spreading knowledge and giving everyone the help they deserve so they can all equally excel. As a biology major, I would have to say it is my favorite subject, however I enjoy spanish and statistics as well. I am looking forward to ACT tutoring as I am quite familiar with the exam and am experienced on ways to significantly improve test scores. Outside of the tough pre-med life, I enjoy sports such as softball, swimming and tennis. I am quite passionate about learning about other cultures. My sophomore year, I was able to study abroad in Spain and immerse myself in the Spanish culture. I have also learned a lot about Mexican and Latin American cultures through classes and have my own Indian culture I enjoy!

I am a middle school English teacher here in Las Vegas. I was educated in Connecticut where I started my education career at a special education behavioral school. I believe every student is a good student. Every child has the potential to make high marks. The secret is knowing how to engage the student and stimulate the student into continuing the learning on their own. I am well versed in many education techniques and tools. My past students have gone on to be successful in college and their new careers.

I am a junior on the pre-med track at the College of William and Mary who is pursuing a major in biology, and a minor in kinesiology and health sciences. Additionally, I self-study Mandarin and am striving to be able to use it abroad one day.I am comfortable with working with students of all ages, and am excited to help people reach their academic goals! My aim is to not only provide help to those who need it, but to also teach students how to better learn on their own (the higher your education goes, the more important this becomes!). While the old "catch a [wo]man to fish and they eat for a day, teach a [wo]man to fish and they eat for a lifetime" proverb may be a bit corny and overused at this point, it is still very relevant for continued academic success. It is always a fantastic idea to ask for help when you don't understand something, but it's important that you help yourself as much as you can as well.Outside of schoolwork I play the tuba in my college's Wind Ensemble. I learned how to play the euphonium/baritone in 5th grade. This gave me the foundation to learn the tuba in 6th grade, and I have been playing ever since! When told that I could not audition for the jazz band as a tuba player in high school, I self-taught myself trumpet and was able to join the group in addition to still playing tuba for the wind ensemble and marching band.When not studying or in rehearsal, I really enjoy being active and getting outdoors. I've started to get more into hiking over the past couple of years, and I have continued playing and watching sports ever since I was a little kid. Even though I played soccer throughout all of high school, baseball has my heart.
