I am a rising junior at Duke University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Studies. Over the course of my studies, I have developed an extreme interest in education policy. I’ve had the great opportunity to work with the BOOST program at Duke University to use science and technology to inspire economically challenged and underrepresented students in Durham’s public schools. Although I am capable of tutoring a wide variety of subjects, I am most passionate about English and writing. In addition to my major, I’m pursuing minors in English and History, for I consider the arts and humanities to be a crucial part of a holistic and fun education. I’m a kind and easygoing person who relates well to others. In addition to being a tutor for students, I plan on being a mentor; I plan on being someone that students can turn to for advice on admissions, college life, and more. At Duke, I’m an active member of many organizations, including social life, a cappella, and political clubs. In my free time, I enjoy reading, exercising, cooking, singing, and spending time with friends.

I am proud to be a part of Varsity Tutors! I am originally from San Antonio, TX; I completed my undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston where I received a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Currently, I am in my second year of medical school at Baylor College of Medicine.
I am currently a 4th year medical student at Baylor College of Medicine and previously graduated from Rice University, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science and Biochemistry & Cell Biology. I have served on admissions interview committees for Rice and Baylor College of Medicine, have mentored and edited essays for numerous college and graduate school applicants, and served as a private tutor and classroom instructor for Advanced Biology and Chemistry courses for 3+ years.
I am an undergraduate of the Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. I have years of experience tutoring and teaching math and various sciences from an elementary to a college level. I primarily tutor college level courses such as physics and biochemistry, but also have extensive experience in social sciences, biology, and higher mathematics such as Calculus and Differential Equations. I believe that demonstrating the various real-world applications of a given concept is the best method to increase a student's understanding.
I am working toward an MD at Stanford University. I am happy to help with MCAT, SAT, SAT subject, AP test prep, and general academic subjects. Throughout my 8 years of experiencing tutoring middle school and high school students, I aim to help students raise their test scores through targeting points of weakness and developing the tools to conquer those areas. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running, listening to music, traveling, and reading.
I'm starting my junior year at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I'm currently getting my degree in biology with a concentration in health and human disease, global health, and a minor in French. I love reading, traveling, learning and helping others learn! I have experience tutoring high school and elementary school students in math, science, and English and I love tutoring in each subject equally. Eventually, I see myself going to medical school and researching topics related to viral diseases which I've been interested in since a very young age. I'm very passionate about the subjects I teach and hope to pass my passion on to the individuals I tutor!
I am a current undergraduate student at Stanford University but am spending the summer interning in Dallas! In school, I am a Human Biology major, concentrating in Game Theory and Health Policy. I have experience tutoring in Math, Spanish, and Writing and am eager to help you achieve your goals. I am flexible, patient, and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.
I am currently a Master's student at Cornell University. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science from Cornell in 2016 and I plan to attend medical school in the fall of 2017. I am really excited to be tutoring for Varsity tutors because I really enjoy helping students with subjects that gave me trouble in school. I hope that my time spent developing strategies to learn and absorb the tough material can help you succeed.
I am a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History & Archaeology with a secondary major in History. I focused on medieval art and history and wrote my senior thesis on the Byzantine Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. Currently I am a Masters student in Art History at Southern Methodist University. Throughout my undergraduate education, I have taught and tutored children in various ways. My junior year of college I was a religious school teacher for First Graders. During the summer of 2012, I was an intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, at the Cloister's Museum and Gardens (which is a part of the Medieval Department). Throughout the summer, I led five to six, one hour tours throughout the galleries, teaching students from the ages of five to eighteen, all about medieval art. Additionally, I was inducted into Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society my senior year of college. One of Mortar Board's missions is to help promote literacy. My chapter of the honor society worked with InspireSTL, a St. Louis based tutoring program, which places talented low-income middle school students into the region's top college-prep high schools and supports their ongoing academic progress, offering them a wide range of tutoring and financial assistance. As a group, we helped tutor the students several times a week. Working with InspireSTL I was asked to tutor a very wide range of subjects - everything from geometry to history to biology, to being asked to set up an impromptu grammar and sentence diagramming class! While I love the subjects of History and English, and have tutored and taught most subjects, I have realized that Standardized Test preparation is one of the most important steps in your education. With the right mentality and training, those tests can be an easy stepping-stone into the college of your dreams. I love learning and teaching and strongly believe that everyone deserves a world-class education, and I hope to be able to instill that desire in my students. In my spare time, when I am not in school or reading for my classes, I enjoy relaxing, doing yoga, playing tennis, and cooking - all of which re-energize me and get me ready for the next day!
I'm currently attending Rice University- pursuing a double major Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Economics. As you can probably tell I'm very passionate about math, and I'm even more passionate about teaching it! I prefer to teach math a little differently than some of you may used to. Many of students think of math as a plug and chug approach- simply being given formulas and plugging numbers in. While I will give you the formulas and critical things to remember if you insist on it, I prefer to teach mathematics as a form of problem solving. How math works is a beautiful thought process- understanding how a formula was conceived is much more rewarding than simply memorizing it. But in the end it's all up to you- the student. If you want a fast run-down of everything you need to know to ace the test- I'll happily help you. However, if you're willing to think outside of the box and learn some very neat stuff, I'll open the doors to mathematical problem solving for you!
I am graduate of Brown University, where I received a degree in Economics and studied topics ranging from Computer Science and Applied Math to Literary Arts and Philosophy. I even helped create a class during my senior year, working together with other students to write a syllabus, gather reading materials, schedule guest speakers, and ultimately, present the results to an academic dean for course credit. After graduation, I moved to Hong Kong, where I worked at a a summer program at the University of Hong Kong, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, as a Teaching Assistant in a Game Theory class for advanced middle school students. After the program ended, I traveled around Asia, visiting places in Malaysia and Vietnam before eventually returning to the American South, where, as a native North Carolinian, I feel at home. I usually prefer tutoring in subjects involving math and social sciences but I am very flexible. Outside of education, I love playing guitar and piano, and I have released music both as a solo artist and as part of a band. I also like to play disc golf and lacrosse and enjoy participating in fantasy football.
I am a current student at Rice University studying Mathematics and Computer Science. I have lots of tutoring experience, having tutored kids at my high school and at-risk youth. I know how intimidating asking for help can be, which is why I make a point of being patient and respectful with all of my students. I think it's important for students to understand that getting tutoring can be a stress-free and beneficial decision. I have always loved math, and I am able to tutor in pre-algebra, algebra, AP Calculus AB and BC, multivariable calculus, and high school physics. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing the guitar and rock climbing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students throughout Temple with personalized tutoring support. With 30 schools and over 15,400 students in the area, we work with learners at all grade levels and academic backgrounds—whether they attend public schools, charter schools, or are homeschooled. Our tutors are familiar with Texas curriculum standards and can support students regardless of which Temple school they attend.
Temple students most frequently seek tutoring in math, English/language arts, and test preparation—particularly for STAAR exams, which are critical benchmarks in Texas schools. Science and social studies support is also common as students progress through middle and high school. We can connect you with tutors who specialize in whatever subject your student needs, from foundational skills to advanced coursework.
Absolutely. STAAR preparation is a key focus for many Temple families, and personalized tutoring can help students build confidence in tested subjects and develop stronger test-taking strategies. Tutors can work with your student on specific skills that appear on STAAR assessments in reading, math, science, and social studies—targeting the areas where they need the most support before test day.
Your first session is about understanding your student's strengths, challenges, and goals. The tutor will assess where your student currently stands academically, discuss what you'd like to achieve, and create a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation helps ensure that every future session is focused and productive, building on what works best for your student's learning style.
While Temple schools maintain a 14.3:1 student-teacher ratio on average, even this level of attention can't match the benefits of one-on-one instruction. In a classroom setting, teachers must address the needs of many students simultaneously. With personalized tutoring, the entire session focuses exclusively on your student—their pace, their questions, and their specific learning gaps. Research shows this individualized approach leads to significantly faster progress than group instruction alone.
Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions you choose. We offer flexible scheduling and can work with different budget levels—whether you need weekly sessions or intensive support before a major exam or deadline. Contact us to discuss your needs, and we'll connect you with tutors whose rates align with what works for your family.
