I have worked at the Mama Lere Hearing School at the Vanderbilt Medical Center for deaf preschoolers as well as volunteered as a first grade Sunday School teacher. In addition, I have had multiple ongoing volunteer positions as a tutor in schools in low-income areas in the subjects of Algebra I/II and English Language Arts. I have had the privilege of helping these students rise up beyond the any expectations, and I believe that a large part of their success comes not only from tutoring but from mentorship. While I will give you the formulas and critical things to remember if you insist on it, I prefer to teach mathematics as a form of problem solving. How math works is a beautiful thought process- understanding how a formula was conceived is much more rewarding than simply memorizing it. But in the end it's all up to you- the student.
