I am a college student majoring in special education at the University of Dayton. I love working with kids and have been tutoring students since seventh grade. I also am a summer camp counselor and have worked with kids ages 5-17. I love math, science, and history.My philosophy of teaching is to be student centered. Used to be student, one who has traveled across the globe just to further my study, I understand the value of education in different aspects and cultures. From my experience, also as a business owner who coach younger ones, I was able to boil down what is the utmost important in teaching/learning process. I believe "to learn" is an active verb, which must comes willingly from the learners. That means a teacher's job is not only to help the learners understand the material, but also to create trust and passion, so they can be excited about not only learning in school, but also throughout their lives.

I recently graduated from Temple University, in Philadelphia with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. I am applying to medical school this year to pursue my dream of becoming a physician. One of the reasons I am drawn to medicine is the communication to patients and teaching them about diseases. I entered tutoring because of my passion to teach and mentor others. At Temple, I was a teaching assistant for organic chemistry, which was my favorite subject in college because of how applicable it was to medicine. As a TA, I developed lesson plans and met with students one-on-one to guide them through the challenges they had in the course. I continued to tutor in organic chemistry along with general chemistry, algebra and biology at Resnick Athletic Center. Through this job I learned to work alongside students with hectic schedules and how to accommodate for their practices.

I live and breathe Biology, which was my college major as well as the field in which I actively work. In addition to Biology, General Chemistry and GRE preparation are my specialty subjects. I received my Bachelors from the University of Texas at Austin's Plan II Honors Program with a degree in Plan II. While at UT, I did a creative thesis, which ultimately resulted in a cookbook/memoir about American women, (such as my grandmother) in the kitchen. I love to write, and love helping students write as creatively as possible within the parameters of their schoolwork.I’m committed to making learning as fun and enjoyable. Having been an occasionally reluctant learner, I believe that most people are happiest when they feel that they’re learning independently, and are empowered enough to make their education their own. I want to help students create this sense of worth and importance within their studies and schoolwork, which I believe can ultimately lead to a more joyful, fulfilled life.

I am an undergraduate student at Wofford College pursuing a major in biology with a minor in business. In addition, I am a nationally certified and state certified Emergency Medical Technician and work sporadically throughout the year. I have three years of experience tutoring students in a wide array of subject areas. I have a true passion for learning and I am extremely excited to share that passion with the students I have the privilege to help succeed.

I bring leadership, motivation, humor, and a unique perspective. I served in the United States Army for over twenty years. I was responsible for teaching and training during most of my career. Specifically, I taught at the Northern Warfare Training Center in Alaska, the 101st Airborne Division Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, I was a Drill Sergeant at the Infantry School and my final assignment, I was the Senior Military Instructor at the University of Maryland (College Park).As a civilian, I have worked as a substitute teacher for Kelly Educational Services, I taught 6th grade social studies in the Colonial School District in Delaware, substituted in Escondido Union School District (language arts), and I am currently an active teacher at a charter school where I teach elementary classes as well as middle and high school social studies.Teaching is more than just instruction. It is about being passionate towards education and the future of our students. Fundamentally, all students are teachable. It is my responsibility to find what motivates each student and use that, along with respect, care, and concern for each individual, to engage each student in his or her own learning process. Students are our nation’s greatest assets, this I will never forget.Students in my classes receive direct instruction and learn from wide-ranging instructional techniques that enhance the classroom environment. How can I make it better next time? I attended the University of Pennsylvania for undergrad where I studied English and took many STEM courses (chemistry, organic chemistry, statistics, calculus, advanced biology) as a part of my liberal arts education. I have also taken classes at Hunter College post-grad. I went to Poly Prep Country Day School for high school. I enjoy trying new recipes and new workouts as hobbies. I was born and raised in Brooklyn.
